Updated: When does Randall Cobb become a must start WR again? (1 Viewer)

Just for context, I am benching Randall Cobb in two separate "start 3WR" leagues this week.

One league I am starting Julio Jones,Allen Robinson and Danny Amendola in front of Cobb this week. (I have Martavis Bryant on bye as well)

In league #2 I am starting Julio Jones, Eric Decker and Danny Amendola in front of Cobb this week.

You're more of a risk-taker than I am. If I had Amendola and Cobb in two leagues, I'd likely hedge and start each in a league.
I see your point.

But similar to poster "Loipz" and his scenario, both teams are pretty much smooth sailing.

One is 9-1 and the other is 8-2 . 10 man leagues but I'm outright first in both, so it likely won't cost me anything if Amendola bombs as I should make the playoffs regardless.

In fact, in the 8-2 team I am starting Brady also, so it will give me a reason to watch the game Monday. LOL.

I know Amendola is a bit of a risk, but I see him as having a 5-6 point floor now, after the loss of Edelman.

He may or may not have some big games from here on, but I think thats his floor, and I don't mind that with my other options.

The thing is, I think like others here have mentioned, this may be the best time for a "buy-low" on Cobb.

I don't much like his matchup this week, and if you gamble on another poor performance, then you may get him from an owner who is tired of his low numbers, after this week.

He has several good scenarios/games coming up, and it wouldn't surprise me if he helps some of us win championships before all is said and done this year.

Green Bay losing the last three games might be one of the best things that could have happened to us Cobb owners.

I may not play him the rest of the way. String together 2 good games and I may consider it but there's just not enough games left for me to gain back the trust. He's been flat out terrible. No way around it.
"But...but...he's got the same number of receptions and yards as he did last year at this time...keep starting him!"

<sarcasm>

He's pretty much a must start for me nowadays. Was hoping Diggs would continue to roll and John Brown would come back from his hammy issues so I'd have options...but I gotta ride Cobb till the end now.

I don't know if I'm foolish but I'm still holding out hope that GB really won't go out like this the rest of the way. Too many weapons + experience. Jordy was a loss but I think that narrative has been overdone.

Traded him for Travis Benjamin. Otherwise he was getting cut. No ragrets.
I mean, we have to step outside of the name and into his game play. Really not able to get open with regularity with Jordy on IR. We have enough data to make that call now definitively. I'd say this was fair value non-dynasty. He's approaching drop-able in re-draft. Just does not have a comfortable floor based upon targets and conversions in 2015 that allows you to even start above a WR3 level this season with somewhat confidence.

I didn't watch the game but 2 catches on 9 targets is pretty bad. Was that him not getting open or is Rodgers still not throwing the ball like his normal self?

Man this guy really stinks. Half my auction Budget went to this guy and Jeremy Hill.

Any chance this guy turns it around? The targets are there, he is just not getting open. Him and Rodgers look like they've never played together before.

I had him benched. The cut talk seems ridiculous. Every week I think hey he's got Aaron Rodgers throwing to him and every week watching the games it seems like nearly every drive is like one of those one off bad drives the Pack might have, but the whole game is like that. IIRC Rodgers overthrew an open Cobb in the end zone and seemed really unhappy with himself. I just can't bring myself to start treating Rodgers like any other QB. Every game has tremendous upside,

Can't drop him but if his name weren't Cobb I'd perhaps consider it. That's partially the hardest part of this - forcing yourself to ignore the guys track record/name when he's had such a great career up until now. I've finally come around to not playing him automatically anymore though. He's flexed with other WR2/3 types

Would anyone start T.Y. Hilton or Willie Snead over him? Last week I decided to sit him for T.Y. and realized it was a bad decision.

Last week I decided to sit him for T.Y. and realized it was a bad decision.
They basically had the same game. One had two catches for 21 and the other had two catches for 24. One of Cobb's 2 catches happened to be a touchdown. That's the flip of a coin. Hard to fault yourself for that. Cobb's had one great game all year. And two decent ones. The rest have been flops. Cobb is a fantasy owner's nightmare. He's killing him week after week, but you know when you sit him, he's going to finally produce. I don't envy your decision. I might start Cobb if I were you and hope playing in prime time gets Rodgers and Company pumped up and back to playing like they're capable of.

Thanks for the insight. Pretty much sums it up. What makes me lean towards Cobb is the QB situation. Hilton is severely limited as a deep threat with Hasselbeck, and hasn't been much of a target hog.

That's the thing. It's Cobb. It's Rodgers. It's the packers. Offensive explosions can happen at any moment. Even when they're not playing. That's how good they used to be.

That's what we're used to with gb. It's hard to get that out of your head if you own him and that will keep you starting him. And, if your other options aren't that great then yeah you HAVE to. He has sucked balls for much of the year but he's still Randall Cobb. You're still gonna start him over funchess. But a Crabtree? I might start him over Cobb. It has to be a good enough option. For me it was Diggs for 4 weeks. Then I luckily traded Cobb away.

But I was very confident about benching him when I had another good option. My analysis about why he has sucked was sound and it wasn't going to change any time soon unless they find a way to bring a healthy Jordy back into the lineup this season.

He's getting 9 targets per game. He leads the team in red zone chances (16). He had 4 RZ chances last week. Every time I look at the situation I rarely see anyone available who can meet those numbers or have a QB like Aaron Rodgers throwing to him.

Rodgers gets them to jump... free play... hits Cobb in stride and right through his hands. Just doesn't seem to be helping his QB at all this year.

Guy had a 50+ yard TD pass called back by an iffy offside call play stoppage. Add that to his total and it's WR1 numbers. Overall I think he looked better than usual last night.

I keep reading this but are we sure the CB and safety didn't pull back when they heard the whistles?

I watched the instant replay at the time looking to answer that exact Question. He had both defenders beat by a mile with ball at his hands before they heard the whistle and pulled off. Bummer because it was a great play. Rodgers was yelling at the refs about it

It was a brutal call. But also not why we lost.Didn't Cobb drop at least one ball where he could have broken it for a big gain?

He was 7 for 8 in a freezing rain storm. There was also an easy first down that Rodgers decided to terribly under throw him on the first drive (Lacy costs couldn't convert on 4th down either), and Cobb was forced to dive and make the catch. He really didn't look bad this week considering the situations.

I didn't say he looked bad. I said the call that cost him a TD was brutal.

Oh, misunderstood. Sorry.

He was gone. Had two steps on Porter.
Yeah he beat him before the whistle.
Watching the second half on DVR tonight.

And I want what you guys are smoking if you think that would have been a TD without the whistles.

They own Cobb so they see things through a PRO cobb lens. Reality is we don't know when the players heard the whistle. Cobb has a step on Porter and the FS(Amos) is on the other hash but still 10 yards deeper than Cobb. Cobb 40 yard dash=4.46, Porter=4.37, Amos=4.39.

I'm a Bears fan and I feel we stole the game on this non play. Cobb walks that in.

The all-22 tape I watched disagrees
