US Men's National Team (17 Viewers)

Sad day for US Soccer.

But if this drama is what it takes to make the jump to legit top 10 national team, I'll take it.

Help me connect the dots....how does this debacle help us develop higher quality players?

It is not like we are France and once we clear the debris we are left with World Class players that just need to gel. Even if the US was 100% functional, we are still a team with out a single player in ~ the top 100 players in the world at the moment.

Not sure who the dude Lalas had on is, but Alexi retweeted the clip I'm quoting and followed it with an "Amen". I'm not sure how to feel about agreeing with him so fervently.

“Gregg Berhalter did literally every single thing that was asked of him…yet…every step of the way, just piles & piles of ‘BerhalterOut’…I just don’t know what you people want and it’s a shame that you’re so f-ing loud.” @brendanhunting on 🇺🇸⚽️ trolls
It's Coach Beard from Ted Lasso. Seems to be a big soccer fan.

Again, I think the issue with GGG was that he HAD to listen to the fans because he was always so behind the obvious. If the fans hadn't been so loud we wouldn't have gotten Tim Ream at the WC. If the fans hadn't been so loud we wouldn't have seen The MMA midfield. If the fans had more time to be loud we would've likely had a better solution at striker in the WC. The reactive thinking from Berhalter isn't a feature, it's a bug.

Of all the crap Claudio did, I believe in the end this is what will bury him.

Once the sponsors of Austin FC get wind of this, Reyna is going to be forced to dissolve all relationships with the club I bet. He has already resigned his GM spot but remains employed as an advisor.

SRA Officials
@PSRAofficials

Mr. Reyna’s sexist & misogynistic comments about female referees are deplorable. The PSRA considers his actions disqualifying for employment in MLS & beyond. MLS cannot provide a haven for Mr. Reyna’s opinions while also celebrating the quality & diversity of its own Officials.
Yeah... In a long list of yuck, this may be the most damning. Complaining via email about having a woman referee do one of gios games.. because it was too important for that.(paraphrasing)

He could probably use the minutes.
I hope
-his attitude has changed
-he gets them
-stays healthy
I don't expect the first will happen in any great shakes. He is mostly who he is. He is not 16 any more. Dortmund swears up and down he is a model citizen but that could be nothing more than protecting his transfer value.

His minutes will come. For as hurt as he has been, he has over 500 league minutes and just recently went almost the entire game against Chelsea in Champions League, in which he played very well.

Whether he stays healthy is up to the gods I guess.

Wait. You're telling me that my favorite character from Ted Lasso is a legit soccer fan? That's awesome.

Yes, he has been shown at numerous US games. The genesis of Ted Lasso came from when he and Jason were young unknown comics and lived in Holland for a while where they became fans of the sport.

Is it wrong to hope Reyna is not on the roster just to see how crazy his parents go? I mean these games are basically a nothing-burger, I want the soap opera to be taken to another level.

There are levels of stupid I guess but if they say anything public in anything in the near future that looks like another complaint, we may have to readjust the scale.

That is my way of saying that I don't think we will see the crazy if Gio is not rostered. Hudson already met with Gio just a couple of weeks ago and I doubt that would have happened if the intent was to not roster him but we will see tomorrow.

USA vs Mexico men's friendly April 19 in Glendale, Ariz., announced. Kickoff at 10:22 ET on TBS, Telemundo, Universo, HBO Max and Peacock. It's being called the "inaugural Allstate Continental Clásico." The match is not in a FIFA window, thus limiting call-ups.

The days of MLS releasing players at will may be over since there is no business tie between US Soccer and MLS any more
Great point -- hadn't even thought of this. Does it mean the USMNT won't have an MLS quota anymore and we can finally play our best players?

(this is a joke)
It's fun to laugh at this now, but to think that SUM being USSF's biggest partner for years didn't lead to MLS guys getting preferred treatment is a little naive IMO. Jurgen hinted quite loudly about this being a thing.

What's an all-MLS team of interesting players look like right now? i.e. no Morris, etc?
100% money grab. Need to pay the lawyers some how.

Impossible to guess MLS team since we don't know who will be released. The days of MLS releasing players at will may be over since there is no business tie between US Soccer and MLS any more
This is so awful. April 19 is a Wednesday. It appears there is some weird Canadian tournament so the Canadian MLS clubs have games so anyone with them are probably out. No one else appears to have games but this is going to be a low quality game that starts late at night.

Not sure what soccer thread to post this in, but this one seems the most active.

So I went to an NHL game on Saturday that ended regulation in a tie. Haven't watched a NHL game in decades so it was quite the surprise to see overtime start and only 3 skaters come out for each team. What I watched was a amazing as removing four players totally opened up the ice and created an exciting finish. Anyway...this had me thinking why not finish a soccer game this way?

Wow. Can't argue with any of that. Love it.

ETA -- Would have liked to see Cade Cowell get another run, but still looks great. A couple names I'm not familiar with but I'm always going to be ok with new faces coming in.

No ccv or richards. As far as I can tell, both are healthy.

Makes no sense to me to include miles over them. I know he's back plating but seems like he hasn't been amazing or anything. This just seems like Long all over again.

Something like this assuming the same old 4-1-2-3? (note I am pretty sure we will have 2 distinct lineups for the games so this is just for fun assuming we had to pick an 11)

..........................................Turner

Scally................McKenzie.................Ream.....................Jedi

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Weston

..........................Luca..................................Yunus

Weah...................................Pepi...................................Pulisic

* I am starting Scally because I have no idea what condition Dest is in given his almost 0 playing time at Milan

* I don't like Weston at the 6 but a Weston/Luca/Yunus midfield just seems stronger than a Johnny/Weston/Yunus midfield

* Robinson could start for McKenzie

This is one of those items that has morphed over the years to make it sound so much worse than what happened. Here is what happened

* Middle of cycle, meaningless friendly in which no Euro players were allowed release

* US Soccer/JK asked MLS to release the players so that they could play the game.

* MLS said ok but when selecting, please choose players from as many teams as possible so that no one team is over burdened (and would also benefit from more teams being able to claim as USMNT player for promotional purposes)

* JK mentioned this casually once in the press and never again mentioned anything about any one telling him who to roster

* This, what I would consider a reasonable request, has sadly morphed into "Garber chooses the roster for every game" for the haters.

Per Anthony Hudson: "Clearly it became a bit more complex in the months since the World Cup, but as far as we’re concerned Gio is a part of our program. He’s a good guy and a top talent and he is evaluated like any other player."

From Hudson's comments I am detecting they made a deal to not call MLS players for this camp (I think there is only one on the roster?) so that they can be called for the game against Mexico in which the Euro players won't be released.

I don't know if CCV falls under this category or not

===================

Hudson: "There are a number of guys who are dealing with varying degrees of injury issues. We’ve spoken with the clubs, & in each case we have worked together to make a decision in the best interest of the player & to do our best to ensure they are available for us this summer."

Have to say...very happy with the job Hudson is doing in the caretaker role so far, and feel like there's less urgency to figure out the longer-term solution than there might have been otherwise. Only fear is that he might do such a good job that he gets a permanent opportunity, which seems like it would be a mistake.

Well there is the rumor that he has been interviewing for a head coaching job this winter so there is a chance he will need to be replaced if he is hired.
