Why are some owners so unreasonable (1 Viewer)

Silly on Team B's part. Pretty common practice in the pre-techno age. It's for things like that why you have a commish in the 1st place he should trust you and the things you do for the league.

We instituted a rule this year that said that no other owner (including the commissioner) can change your lineup...you must do it online. It was for this very reason, and to avoid any semblance of potential collusion between "friends", that we decided to move away from that, even in emergency situations.

I'm commish in a long time league, most know each other. As long as the call was before kickoff I'll change it. Why wouldn't I? What about vacations, family emergencies, computer issues, storms...? Man, some of you need to lighten up or find another less stressful hobby.

I'm not sure the commish is responsible to make line up changes. I have never seen that before especially with everyone having smartphones. I've been playing this game for a long time too.
What? Not everyone has smart phones.... and not to get off topic but there was fantasy before people had computers ;)So you are saying if someone was not near a computer and called you, you wouldn't make the change? That's harsh
Then why didn't you just do it instead of calling the other owner first?I would make the change if I got the message/request before one of the players started their game and was able to make the change before the game started. After the game starts, SOL, not the commish's responsibility.
What? Maybe I explained it wrong.TEAM A - calls from work, "belljr, I can't set my lineup, I want to start roethlisberger" message left at 8:14belljr sitting on couch watching tv, without his phone. Roethlisberger TD to Wallace is under review.Belljr runs up stairs to get a beverage, sees he has a message on his phone.belljr retrieves said message.belljr runs back downstairs, gets on computer, changes lineup and calls TEAM B to let him know
As a commish, is it not in your bylaws to be required to have your cell phone on you 15 minutes prior to kickoff of any game? I think you're the one at fault here...Seriously thought, Team B is overreacting. It's not like you waited until the end of game or after the weekend to make the change or let Team B know. Explain to B that the same courtesy shall be extended to him if the situation ever arises.

Owner B is a #####, as are all the people here giving you #### for making the change. Of course you should sub in Roethlisberger, there is absolutely zero reason to do otherwise.

Its a thankless job
This.
Not only a :goodposting: , but best post I have read on this forum in some time. Concise, to the point and on the money. Many leagues allow phone call changes when the owner is not able to do it online. People who have been playing fantasy for longer than the last 10 years are a lot more familiar with allowing changes in ways other than online. The owner clearly wanted to start Roethlisberger, made the choice before that deadline. communicated the choice to the commish, so he starts Roethlisberger. The method of communicating that decision is no one else's business as long the league has allowed it in the past. Stop whining and rethank your commish for doing a job that blows.

I understand where you are coming from Bell. We are in our 23rd season and you'd think by now there would be nothing left to argue about, but each year there is something that people feel the urge to complain about. Doesn't "Team B" remember the true meaning of "Calling" in a lineup? I know being the commish really sucks in those situations. I never understand why people don't look at the situation and ask themselves about how they would react if they were in the same situation. This is even more difficult if you are friends because at times they don't just get angry at the commish, they get angry at a friend who in most cases is just trying to do the right thing for the league.

If Ben had gotten knocked out of the game during the first series, would Owner B still be upset? If RG3 goes out and scores 40, will Owner B still be upset? I'm thinking 'no' on both counts, which leaves Owner B as acting like a selfish child here.

Stuff happens - leaving that voice mail was the same as clicking 'Submit/Save Changes' online as I see it.

Tell Owner B to calm down or find another league next year.

Two things. First, yeah hate to see an owner behave this way. My experience with people like that owner is that they will ##### about anything that doesn't help their team, regardless of what is "right".

That is... if you change the lineup and Ben had a good game he'll #####. And if you don't change the lineup and Ben had a bad game he'll #####. His #####ing likely has zero to do with the commish performing his duties ethically and properly.

Just don't let it get to you.

Second thing... for prevention of further issues, one thing you could do is inform your league they need to inform both the commish and the opposing owner in such cases. Though I really don't think it should be necessary for anything other than if the other owner is telling you face to face and you won't have time to make the change yet either.

If you have a precedent, You have no choice But to follow it. And, no, it's not your responsibility to change the rule, either. If owner B doesn't like the current policy, HE/SHE can suggest a different policy and get a majority of owners to agree with him (At which point you should probably change the policy)

depending on your scoring system, Ben scored less than RG3's average. (not that it matters)Tell B to get over it.

In this day and age, don't most, if not all, owners have smart phones so they can make changes themselves without needing to be on a computer...no?

If I can make a change for someone, I will. I may be in the minority here but I'd rather see two teams battle it out with their best players for the week being active than having one team take zeros because they weren't able to get on-line to make changes before kickoff. If a commish is willing, and owners know it, there should be no whining.

No, I know plenty of owners in my local league who don't have smart phones and are barely capable of using the internet on a computer.

If Team B has a problem with this, tell them the vm with timestamp. You have proof the change was done in time.

I don't think they're angry with you. They're angry because they thought they were "safe" from a big QB performance Thursday only to find out they're behind because of it.

If you accept this as commissioner, that's fine. But don't think you have to do it. It's each owner's responsibility to get their lineups in time. "Well, I'll just call the commish" only works if you allow it. You don't have to be on call 24/7.

The only owners who think it's the commissioner's "job" to field last-minute phone orders and deal with the fallout are too lazy to ever do the job themselves and have gotten spoiled. You can either deal with it or tell them to set their own lineup and deal with it themselves.
