WR Henry Ruggs III (1 Viewer)

Wow, between injuries and stuff like this it's really making me question playing dynasty. I'm really thinking of calling it quits in the offseason.

DUIs can occur anywhere but in Las Vegas where 3:00am is just the beginning of the late night/early morning parties, the National media was curious what could happen when a team moves to Vegas...

-Star WR involved in a DUI resulting in the death of another driver and likely the end of his NFL career

-Star Head Coach forced to resign amid scandal although not directly related to being in Las Vegas at all.

When is the gambling and covering the spread via the MOB going to be exploited?

How long until the Las Vegas Raiders announce he has been released by the team?

Not much to think about from owner/front office here, is there?

Not just that but at 3:00 in the morning in Vegas it's wall to wall cabs in almost every direction on top of Uber/Lyft.

Maybe not the NFL but I believe some professional teams coach their players and give them numbers to call. I'm sure he could have texted/called and got a limo to take him wherever he needed through the team. If the teams aren't doing that, they're crazy.

Get a ####in Uber, man.  Smh
This.

This is the part I will never understand as long as I live. It's 2021 We have cabs, busses, uber/lyft - and that's for us normies. Ruggs could get a limo, have someone in his entourage give him a ride, etc. There is literally no excuse to drink & drive.

There's NFL teams in NYC, Miami, Los Angelas and as you even said he could get a DUI even in Kansas City- pretty odd blaming Vegas but then again....

i know some NHL guys.  i've met the owner of the ducks, henri Samueli.  he tells his players, that he will pay for any kind of ride.  helicopter, private jet, whatever.  because there's no fixing something like this.  just awful.

I agree but Vegas and the Strip, that's unique and part of the reason folks fly there from NYC, Los Angeles, Miami, even KC 😉

I'm not blaming the actual city but they said there might be challenges with Las Vegas, this is a terrible start.

i believe miami already had an NFL player kill someone with a car in the wee hours of the morning.  get out of here blaming the city.

I wouldn't turn this into a "Las Vegas" thing over just one incident.  Let's remember that Derrick Thomas was killed in a car accident in KC (no alcohol, but weather-related IRRC) -- sometimes things like this just happen.

It’s clear he should have taken an Uber/taxi, but from the pics you can tell that he was flying. Probably wanted to open up his Vette and see what it could do. SMH

RIP to the victim and family.

I couldn't even tell it was a corvette.

related note: the new covettes are a very safe vehicle if all Ruggs has is a hip injury. That car is destroyed. I was shocked anyone lived looking at those pics.

fyi we had a guy get a DUI for falling a sleep at the wheel, luckily the first car to roll up on him was a cop and not someone hauling ### down the street and not prepared for a car stopped literally in the middle of the road. He was not at a stop sign or at a real light

odd take, there is still a lot to find out. innocent until proven guilt good lord
If they're charging him with felony DUI resulting in death, he's not innocent. His BAC was over the limit (likely tested at the hospital upon admission) and showed impairment at the scene.

The presumption of innocence doesn't apply to a felony DUI

he is facing a charge of according to the report, just like josh jacob’s faced charges of a dui. blood result changed Jacob’s case, i’m not saying this is the case here but it’s far from decided.

No, he's facing the charge according to the Las Vegas Sheriff's Dept.

Ruggs was admitted to the hospital. Protocol is blood test on admission. He was impaired.

Yeah but he was drunk at 3 in the morning...where I live as an example, bars tend to close by 9-10, you gotta search to find something open later, that's not an issue in Vegas where you can drink all day and night. The city/strip is 24/7 we can all agree on this? He's said to have been there or in that area, yes/no?

I'm not pinning it on the city, the people who live there, local officials, I'm just stating the obvious that there is a lot to do all night long on the Strip and it's a VACATION DESTINATION, let's not sugarcoat it. It's an adult playground where anything goes and people can forget where they are after a few drinks, I've been there many times and can't remember quite a lot of it.

I feel bad for all those involved in this horrific accident. It's a shame because it's going to impact not just the victim and immediate family, not just Ruggs and his family but also the Raiders' fans who lose out and I understand the fans are a distant 3rd on this list.

If true, that's it for Ruggs.  That's usually at least a 9 year sentence.

1998 - Rams DE Leonard Little > He was suspended for the first eight games of the 1999 season
after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a June 1998
crash that killed Susan Gutweiler of Oakville. Little was sentenced
to 90 days in the city workhouse and four years of probation, as
well as ordered to perform 1,000 hours of community service.

The accident occurred after a night of celebrating on Little's
24th birthday. A blood test showed Little had a blood-alcohol level
of .19, nearly twice the legal limit of .10 at that time.

Different times now. Ruggs probably won't get off as easy.

A lot available to get into trouble in that city.

There are two NFL teams in a city literally called "the city that never sleeps".

And the raiders moved from Los Angeles.  Not Bristow, Oklahoma.

Most of us mortal folks would go to jail for killing someone while driving drunk.  Not sure of all the circumstances with Little, but this kind of thing usually means a substantial prison sentence.

Just stop while you're way behind. Bars closing at 10:00 pm is not very common so let's not pretend the rules in your small town apply to most other places.

The bolded part.  1998 wasn't a social media/scrutiny era, and sportsballers got away with so much more.

Also DUI laws have evolved since then, with mandatory minimum sentences. He faces a minimum of 2 years in prison. It's a very serious charge.

I see this ending much much worse for Ruggs.

Also, (not directed at @The Man With No Name) for those blaming this on Las Vegas, while true that Vegas is more of a party town with 24/7 bars, they are also a town that puts an emphasis on public transportation. No one should ever have to drive drunk in Las Vegas.

I know.  I'm just saying that all of us can probably name a few guys who played for our favorite teams over the years who picked up DUIs.  Obviously this one ended in the worst case scenario, but all teams have to deal with this sort of thing from time to time.  (Some more than others, admittedly).

Los Angeles is asleep by 9pm every night, people gotta get up and do yoga.

Madonna even sings about Los Angeles being the city that sleeps.
