WR Ja'Marr Chase, CIN (1 Viewer)

CB sticking at the line then a safety always rolling his way. That won't happen every game.

As someone who rosters Chase in his main dynasty league and didn't touch him redraft, I can tell you that it might. And it would be justified. They only time they single covered him, his release had the guy beat by five yards and Burrow soft tossed one in there instead of making him reach for it, which would have allowed a house call.

Teams know this dude. JJ only has nine points in his last two games, too. They caught onto LSU around the league.

Double teams can destroy nearly all receivers. Offenses need to be creative and move their players around and other targets need to prove they are a threat. I wouldn’t be shocked if in the end they both near the top again in scoring.

Ja'Marr Chase caught 7-of-12 targets for 50 yards in Cincinnati's Week 5 loss to Baltimore.

He also rushed once for no gain. Far be it for us to question the offensive play-calling of Zac Taylor, but how exactly did they draw up a scheme where Samaje Perine finished with more total yards than Chase? Joe Burrow told reporters "There's just nothing down the field if teams are going to play us like they did today." It's easy to preach patience on Chase's target share and talent, but his fantasy managers are likely quite tired of these quiet games. Week 6 brings Cincy to New Orleans, and we'll have no choice but to hope that the Bengals figure out some new answers.

Unbelievable.

Target share is up (over 10 a game), but the chunk plays are not there. He's averaging 6.4 catches which would equate to 109 catches....that's good. But he has only 2 receptions of over 20 yards. Teams appear to be doubling him a lot with a safety over the top, and teams are defending CIN similar to how teams are defending the LAR and KC last year.....making Burrow dink and dunk along the way. The Bengals offense has not been that great this year. Mixon is only averaging 3.1 yards a carry. Burrow has done a better job not being sacked, but that's probably due to getting the ball out quick. Last year CIN averaged 27.1 points a game, this year they are currently averaging 21.6 points.

Don't think it helps that Z. Taylor lacks imagination. Most vanilla run offense in the NFL outside of ATL.

Very hard to believe they can't figure out how to get him free.
No kidding, some creativity would be nice. Get him in motion, run him from the slot…
It's not like Jefferson and Kupp can't get open
I would say they are more creative getting those guys the ball compared to Cincy and Chase. By a lot, in particular the Rams with Kupp.
I was agreeing with you

Thus far this season the Bengals offense has been adjusting in real time to cover-2 type defenses that prevent a lot of plays which surprised opponents in the Bengals' 2021 run to the Super Bowl. Now defenses have had their way with Cincinnati, aided by evolving OL adjustments. Zac Taylor and Brian Callahan (OC) likely will figure things out, but it may not be until the second half of the season. Thank goodness no other team is running away in the AFC Central yet.

Zac Taylor is not a good coach. His team’s run to the SB last year was deodorant to the fact that a lot of Bengals fans were rightfully ready to run him out of town not too long ago. He’s horribly overrated due to the McVay bump. I wouldn’t hold my breath in Taylor getting more creative in ways to free up Chase. Better days should be on the horizon, but it’s going to have to come from the players and not competent scheming from Taylor.

Kupp and Jefferson get the same treatment from defenses, but they have much more imaginative playcalling and coaching to scheme them different looks. And as much as it helped him last year to not have Higgins in there, I think the league now realizes how good Higgins really is and Chase needs his sidekick now to help shade coverage.

Ja'Marr Chase caught 7-of-12 targets for 132 yards and two touchdowns in Cincinnati's Week 6 win over the Saints.

Chase had a 60-yard catch-and-score with the Bengals down two late in the fourth quarter where he evaded an underneath defender, turned the corner, and was gone. It was the kind of special moment that made his season in 2021, and it has finally shown up in 2022. He caught another touchdown for a slant with tight underneath coverage from Paulson Adebo earlier in the game. He'll be a WR1 against the Falcons in Week 7.

Ja'Marr Chase walking out, helmet in hand as the Bengals come out of the tunnel for the second half.
I'll be shocked if he plays again, he was really limping at the end of that run and holding the back of his leg. Hopefully they are smart about it and don't risk to aggravate it.

Ja'Marr Chase caught 8-of-11 targets for 130 yards and two touchdowns in the Bengals' Week 7 win over the Falcons.

Chase's fourth multi-score start in just 24 career appearances was his second straight. He destroyed "Cornell Armstrong" for a 32-yard touchdown in the second quarter before using quick feet to turn a short pass into a field-reversing, 41-yard score 14 minutes later. There was a scary moment late in the first half where Chase appeared to tweak his hip issue, but he was never announced with an injury and appeared to be his normal self in the second half. Chase will have down weeks with so much quality target competition, but he has firmly reasserted himself as a weekly top-three option at wideout. Cleveland is on tap for Week 8.
