⚽️⚽️⚽️ 2024 MLS THREAD ⚽️⚽️⚽️ (1 Viewer)

Been waffling all week but just got tickets tonight to see Messi. Hopefully he plays
I'll be there too. Where you gonna be sitting?
Nice! We are super pumped. Section 201. Paid more than I would have liked but oh well, probably my only shot to see him live. What about you?
We are upper deck. 306.

I bought them when they first went on sale so at least I was able to get them face value.

This is a borderline religious experience at this point
Man for sure.

That was the most fun I have ever had at a sporting event EVER. Crowd was literally rooting for Sporting KC in full throat and Messi in full throat.

Weather was gorgeous - a perfect evening in KC. And that Messi goal - HOLY ****!!!!!

Just a lovely, peaceful crowd and the energy was fantastic. What a night.

So are we now in the phase of "real" MLS referees being back?

These guys need some way to convey to the crowd what they are actually calling.

I was just reading on twitter that the KC Miami game was the 2nd highest attended soccer game in the entire world this past weekend.

Only Bayern vs Koln out drew it at 75k (KC Miami was 72.6k)

Breaking news

Messi is pretty good at soccer.

1 goal and 5(!!!) assists, all in the second half of a 6-2 win.
Has to be a record for assists?
It was a record for both assists (5) and goal contributions (6) in a single MLS game.
Iirc, Mathis scored 5 once?
correct and that still stands today as the only player to have done it. There are a bunch of 4 goal scorers in MLS history but he is the only 5 goal scorer.

5 straight clean sheets for Charlotte FC. Kahlina has been great his entire time here, but Dean Smith has really done an admirable job turning around what was a very porous defense last season. The team is very well organized.

Unfortunately, the geniuses in the front office have sold and/or loaned way too many attacking options. They need to bring some forward talent into the next window.

They are in a good spot. If they are willing to spend, there should be plenty of attacking talent to get this summer which should set them up for a nice run to the playoffs.

There have been some strong rumors about Reus since they have the discovery. That type of player would be a great fit, but would prefer someone younger or with MLS experience. Not an easy league to adapt to.

History shows it can be feast or famine with the older superstars. Some adapt quickly and can dominate, others get swallowed up and are near busts. There is no easy way to tell.

Statement win for Charlotte at Cincinnati tonight.

I'll be at the game next weekend in Austin if any local FBGs are going to it.
Boooo!! I was there. Pretty nice-sized traveling supporter contingent. Keeper had a really nice game for Charlotte and got a little help from the woodwork, twice. FCC really missed Nwobodo in the midfield and that exposed how thin they are on the back line currently. Maybe a little hangover effect from the Miami game too, Charlotte earned it.

Referee was a disaster, but didn’t seem tilted one way or the other, just terrible in general. Never seen a ref stop a game for a sub when a player goes down with a cramp and the other team is attacking.

New turf hasn’t gotten established yet either. Few bad spots and field looked a soggy mess, with guys going down every time they planted their cleats and tried to turn. Hope they get that fixed, the surface was always pristine before.

Yeah, they started a benefit for season ticket holders this year where you get to choose between certain away matches.

Kahlina has been great in Charlotte. They really suffered when he was injured last year. Not sure how he isn't an All Star. Big surprise was how effective the offense was with Agyemang suspended.

Agree with the bold. It is annoying how many times I watch an MLS game and think the referee was abysmal. They really need to focus on this.

The more highlights I see of the Crew the more I would not be disappointed if Nancy is hired to coach the US next cycle (I would not do it now in this need for a fixer though, he probably needs a full cycle).

What a brilliant team he has put together in a tiny market.

Agyemang is a problem. His size/speed combo are tough to handle, especially on long balls over the top. Just can bully defenders off the ball even while being fouled. Reminds me a lot of Lukaku really.

And Charlotte misses an open header as I'm typing.
