00's Mixtape Draft (2 Viewers)

Grabbed Exploding Hearts' Guitar Romantic this weekend. Awesome stuff. Is NV hip to these guys?
It's pretty great. I've known about the album and heard it praised forever but never really listened to it until now.
Seems right in your wheelhouse. I feel like it's going to be one of those albums that I play a lot henceforth.
Really digging thisGetting me through a long ####### day at work

:goodposting:

1st mix, chosen at random.

"Good Music For People Who Love Bad Music"
Likin' it.Pretty good variety and flow.

Loved the opening and closing tracks.

Songwise, started off on the okay side, but really gained steam at the end.

Will definitely be listening to this one again.

5 Favorite Tracks I Hadn't Heard Before

1) "Wasted Time" - Kings of Leon - Will be seeking out more quickly.

2) "Sugarfoot" - Black Joe Lewis - May have been a JB parody, but it was a :lmao: one.

3) "Take Me Out" - Franz Ferdinand - Had heard 1 song from these guys before and it really grabbed my ear. That's 2 now. Hmm

4) "Marrow" - St. Vincent - Usually hate this kind of crap. JML's mindmeld must be taking hold.

5) "Salute Your Solution" - Raconteurs - YEAH!! ALRIGHT!!!

Just missed: "Aw #### Man", "Your Cover's Blown".
:lmao: Sorry for not listening and reviewing any of these. I just can't stop listening to my own. It's so good.

Favorite songs from 3 more mixes:

DiscoStu - Andrew Bird - "Fake Palindromes"

ACP - Jedi Mind Tricks - "Uncommon Valor" (I liked all the hip-hop on this one)

Eephus - tie between Amerie "1 Thing" and "Modern Kicks" by Exploding Hearts

Just listened to Funky Ahrnie's Party Mix. Pretty good.

I'm not a big fan of rap, but "Uncommon Valor" and "Rising Down" were good. The hard stuff (Giddy Motors, Unsane, Pissed Jeans) mostly just isn't my thing.

I need to check out more Eels and Calexico. Also several good songs from groups I already liked (Spoon, Pinback, Les Savy Fav, etc).

And I liked "The Stations" a lot. Great song.

awesome profthanks
You're welcome. There's no real theme to it other than just kick ### hip-hop. I realized there were a LOT of great songs from the decade that apparently weren't really on anybody's radar and I wanted to make sure they got their due.

 Looking foward to downloading. I threw mine together and obviously forgot a few tracks - highlighted a few of my favorites. A few on there I *gasp* haven't heard before. Looking forward to DL'ing.

I started a thread for signups for the "mystery theme" draft HERE. Figured we can start signing up and PMing me theme suggestions. By the time we start, there'll be a few weeks of downtime to continue listening to these mixes.

Listened to Northern Voice's mix today. Enjoyable.

A lot of stuff that I already like, plus a few that I liked more than usual. I mostly listen to albums and normally can't sit through an entire electronic or rap album, but I could handle it in this context. The Danger Mouse through Junior Boys run was actually pretty good.

Some of the rock was a little meh imo (Brand New for one). I'm kinda disappointed that NV didn't go all out on the pop stuff to be honest. That's what I need from him.

I have a couple of Binary Star songs from Masters of the Universe... was that in the 2000s? I've never heard of them anywhere else.Bang Bang is great. I stumbled on a free album that had that and K'naan - Wavin' Flag on it and couldn't have been happier.

thanks to NV, I've had that Romeo song by Basement Jaxx stuck in my head all week. The sad(?) thing is that I almost didn't mind.

Never heard this Liars song before and it is full of awesome. great find.

Pirate Mike

Listened to it this morning. I liked it.

Artists that stuck out to me that I have never heard that I liked

Andrew Bird, Black Keys, and MIA

MIA sounds like the singer who sings on a rap song that is eluding me right now. I think she says something along the lines of like it like that a bunch of times. Dont know for sure

Listening to Karmas right now. Really like the White Stripes song. Dont know why I never got into them. Not a big Bjork fan

I know I will take a ton of heat for this but I just can not get into Radiohead. I know some of you guys love them but every time I try, I just cant

KP has a Black Keys song also. Looks like I need to get into them and the Stripes a bit more

Surprised more Weezer was not taken in this draft

I just youtubed it. Yes that is the song I was thinking of. It is TI with Jay Z and some others. Is that the MIA girl. Sounds like it
Yup, that's herTitle/chorus comes from a line f hers from Paper Planes:

No one on the corner has swagger like us...

Yep, Masters of the Universe came out in 2000. The group split up shortly after that album, and hasn't made much of a slash since, although both members have put out some solo projects.I have been meaning to check out K'naan. What little of his music I've heard I really enjoyed.

Same thing here. Every time I hear them I realize how completely rocking they are, and I never make an effort to listen to them on my own. My views on Radiohead are well known.
