I'm listening to these in order of posting. This mix overlaps with my tastes significantly, as almost all these bands (if not songs) were on my initial list.

QOTSA have never hit with me. I've never loved anything I've heard from them and this was no exception.

I liked the Man Man and need to check them out.

Really liked the Bouncing Souls tune as well.

The other 21 songs I've heard and/or own and like them all. Favorites: Ted Leo, GBV, Avetts, Wrens, New Porns and LCD.

Obviously, for me, a tough mix to beat. Nice job.

I think "Cry Me A River" from Prof S's mix may be my favorite new song from the three mixes I listened to so far. My fave from Abrantes is the Secret Machines song, and from Postradamus is "Familjen - Det Snurrar I Min Skalle"Good stuff.
I'm working my way down JML's list of mixes, listened to three more over the past few days. My favorites from each mix:T Tank: "Panda" by Dungen... digging the foreign language songs so far. The XX song is pretty amazing too.Piratemike: "Never Stops" from Deerhunter. I know this band gets a lot of love, now I know I need to hear some more.JML: "Walking on A Dream" from Empire of the Sun. Sounds like a great lost MGMT single. The 'FBG 2000s megamix' I make of these culled new songs is gonna kick ###.

Still downloading zips. Could everyone plz post the name of your mix, or the first song, so I can give credit where credit is due? I've got zips labeled mm00s, mixtape 00, 00's mix, 00s mixtape y'all, amongst others.

1st - Mr Tambourine Man - Cloud Cult

Finally getting to Professor S's Mix. Let me preface this by saying that I am not really a rap guy. I like some stuff, but not a lot of the more mainstream stuff.

Adult Contemporary as ####

1. Nas - 2nd Childhood (3:51)

boring. sorry. 1 star

2. Toxic Airborne Event - Sometime Around Midnight (5:03)

I've heard this one before somewhere. It's ok, but at least a minute too long imo. 3 stars

3. Shawn Mullins - Beautiful Wreck (4:09)

I should have also prefaced this review by also saying that I am not a country guy either. 1 star

4. Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire (3:23)

I really like this song and the whole album. I know this is their "sellout" album but I still like it. I almost took "Use Somebody". 5 stars

5. Cunninlynguists - Beautiful Girl (3:24)

This one didn't annoy me as much as I thought it would after I heard the chipmunk voice for the first time. better than the Nas song 2 stars

6. Brother Ali - Prince Charming (4:35)

I enjoy Brother Ali , quite a bit. One of the few\rap hip hop guys that I listen to t least semi regularly. This is a great song. 5 stars

7. Q-Tip - We Fight, We Love (4:47)

This one was also better than the Nas song. I think it was much too long though. 2 stars

8. Paolo Nutini - Jenny, Don’t Be Hasty (3:30)

Never heard of this guy, but this song wasn't bad. 3 stars

9. Allison Krauss and Robert Plant - Gone, Gone, Gone (3:33)

I'm not into this new country\blues Robert Plant at all. boring. 2 stars

10. The Avett Brothers - January Wedding (3:47)

I like almost everything these guys do. Much better choices out there, but I understand it's place in the theme. 4 stars

11. Sister Hazel - Champagne High (5:20)

I know you love these guys, but this song just bores me. I think there's probably a song or two by these guys that I liked at some point, but this wasn't one of them. two minutes two long. 1 star

12. Gnarls Barkley - Crazy (2:58)

One of the great pop songs of the decade for sure. I always forget how good this song is until I hear it again. 5 stars

13. Justin Timberlake - Cry Me a River (4:48)

I understand the guys talent and why people like him, but he just does nothing for me. 2 stars

14. Eminem featuring Dido - Stan (6:43)

I only like a handful of this guys songs, and this is probably my favorite of them. If this had lasted until the later rounds I probably would have taken it. I don't even mind the length 5 stars

15. Ryan Adams - So Alive (3:58)

ugh. way too vanilla. 2 stars

16. Johnny Cash - Hurt (3:38)

I still prefer the NiN version, but this is ok. I hate that he changed crown of #### to crown of thorns. 3 stars

17. Dave Matthews - Gravedigger (3:53)

I used to be a huge Dave Matthews nut, but I haven't listened to the last few albums. I much prefer his quirkier stuff from the first few albums, but there are elements in this song that remind me why I used to like him so much. nice song. 4 stars

18. Common - Testify (2:36)

does not want. at all. 1 star

19. OutKast - Ms. Jackson (4:30)

love this song, always have. 5 stars

20. Amy Winehouse - Rehab (3:34)

I do not understand the appeal of Ms. Winehouse. Her voice is pretty good, but the song just doesn't do anything for me. not terrible or anything. 3 stars

21. Cormega - Therapy

This might me my least favorite song on the mix. Even worse than the Nas song. Again, I understand why it's here thematically. 1 star

22. Talib Kweli (feat. Mos Def, Jay Z, Kanye West, and Busta Rhymes) - Get By remix (5:44)

23. John Mayer - Clarity (4:32)

itunes wouldn't play these two songs for whatever reason. I like some of Talib Kweli's stuff though. I like Mos Def too. I'll look for the song on youtube. I'll look for the John Mayer song too, but I pretty sure it would be a 2 or 3 star song. not terrible, but too vanilla for me.

24. Kanye West featuring John Legend - Home (3:59)

I do not like anything the Kanye does. 1 star

Overall: 2.75 stars

Not a lot new for me here and most of the new stuff I didn't like that much. Some solid songs here that I like a lot, but already have. Sorry for the harsh review. I'm sure this stuff vibes with a lot of people, but I'm not one of them.

I always look forward to your mixes though in hopes of getting turned on to some new rap\hip hop that I wasn't previously familiar with. thanks!

If I were Professor S I'd just kill myself and get it over with.
:goodposting:Not very nice, PM. On another note, thanks for taking the time to listen valence. I knew a lot of this wouldn't be to the FFA's taste and that's okay. Actually I'm pleasantly surprised I got 2.75 stars! Glad you look forward to the hip-hop I usually take. I'm considering throwing together a mixtape of hip-hop undrafted free agents for the heck of it later this week.

It's pretty great. I've known about the album and heard it praised forever but never really listened to it until now.
Seems right in your wheelhouse. I feel like it's going to be one of those albums that I play a lot henceforth.
It's a great album. A band I was in used to cover Throwaway Style and I'm a Pretender and they were probably the most fun songs to play, more so than our other covers or even our originals.

Mine's supposed to be "Now We Can See" by the Thermals, but, frankly, it could be any of the tunes in my mix. The album title should be "Awesomesongs."

Mine should be called "Good Music for People Who Love Bad Music".

We probably should have included a text file in the zip. If the tags aren't changed it can be a PITA to get them in the correct order.

I got distracted by some of the songs into digging into the artist and other similar artists thanks to Pandora and PirateBay and Genius etc... i think I added as much music as I had on my HD prior to this draft. So I got lost in addressing the individual mixes, much to your dismay I know.

And BTW: With Pandora it's nearly impossible to get a mix without Radihead coming in it. On th eplus side I have found two songs I like by them. One is Go To Sleep and the other I don't remember and I was afraid to give it a thumbs up in case they took that to mean I wanted more Radiohead in my mix. I think it was on an album with a mostly black cover...

Anyway some reviews:

JZilla: Unfortunately most of these songs were more metal in nature and I didn't care for them. All but 4 got 1 star because as they are not my style I don't want to listen to them again. What I liked is the Eels Souljacker Pt I. Cool song and it got me listening to more of the Eels over the last few weeks. So far they're 3-1 miss to hit but definitely a good band to explore. Against Me's White People For Peace is... interesting. Political songs can most often sound forced into the music and this one is little different. But it's fun to listen to with some good rhythm and backup shouting, although not something I would "need" to listen to often. Great video too! Alkaline Trio is another band I am looking into with a large discography. I was a big Hot Water Music fan and dabbled with AT but never got into them. Giving them another shot. Song wasn't great for me but enough to give the go ahead on investigation. Thermal's God and Country got a 2 because I am intrigued by them. Not my favorite of theirs chosen here but they have an interesting sound. I do think his vocals are too loud in all their songs but obviously that's part of their schtick. Plus, as always, I am a sucker for cute chick bassists.

Most of the rest, like I said, were just too metal/hard rock for my tastes. A couple were close (Sparta, AtDI, Tool, McClusky) but they just didn't grab my fancy. And despite my delving into alt-country, due in large part by Uncle Tupelo and Wilco from the 90s draft, I haven't liked anyting from Ryan Adams here or on Pandora. Too actual country for me.

1st mix, chosen at random.

"Good Music For People Who Love Bad Music"
Likin' it.Pretty good variety and flow.

Loved the opening and closing tracks.

Songwise, started off on the okay side, but really gained steam at the end.

Will definitely be listening to this one again.

5 Favorite Tracks I Hadn't Heard Before

1) "Wasted Time" - Kings of Leon - Will be seeking out more quickly. :lmao:

2) "Sugarfoot" - Black Joe Lewis - May have been a JB parody, but it was a  one.

3) "Take Me Out" - Franz Ferdinand - Had heard 1 song from these guys before and it really grabbed my ear. That's 2 now. Hmm

4) "Marrow" - St. Vincent - Usually hate this kind of crap. JML's mindmeld must be taking hold.

5) "Salute Your Solution" - Raconteurs - YEAH!! ALRIGHT!!!

Just missed: "Aw #### Man", "Your Cover's Blown".

Eephus' Mix:

I don't think I did this one before. At some point I deleted all the 1 star songs before I reviewed the list here so if I don't mention the song it's because I "lost" it.

The National, Tsar and Gomez all got 3s which means I liked the song and want to see more of the band. I recently got a bunch of Gomez but none of it really stuck with me. Shot Shot did and I'm looking into the album it's on to see if there's more I like and just missed it over the last few months. Calling All Destroyers is on the verge of too pop for me, a lot of it sounds like 90s alto-pop at times like Pavement and then like Jesus Jones and Matthew Sweet. But I like the song overall. I haven't liked all of The National's songs taken, but I do this one. Not sure if I'm going to investigate them more, but this song would tip the scales for me to look once I get through all of the other bands I liked from here.

Two stars: Johnny/Joe Redemption Song. I think it's actually pretty bad. Despite two of my favorite genius musicians doing a cover of a third's, it's really just bad, but there's no way they're getting a 1 star rating.

Amerie - Not into diva pop but this is a pretty good song. Would never play it on my own but if forced to listen to it I wouldn't mind. Hot video.

Punjabi, NERD, DJ Jazzy Jeff - If I were into hip hop more right now then they might rank higher.

Band of Horses - Gave them a two because I like some of their other songs. This one didn't grab me too much but they bear looking into. I have a few friends that love them so I'll probably hear more with them.

The rest I believe are all in the garage/lo-fi rock category. Alright to listen to, maybe could get into them later on. Living THings, Exploding Guitar, Gaslight Anthem, Drones

Sun Kil Moon has been the greatest find for me of the draft. First 5 star song I didn't laready know and like. Been listening to a lot of their other stuff including the solo and previous bands. Outstanding song coming in right at the right time for me. Acoustic version is good as well but the drone of the electric version is mind altering. This mix was worth ten times it's weight in 1 star songs just for this one. Thanks

Gomez put out a string of completely forgettable albuns. Get their debut "Bring It On". Teh awesome.

Just a tip. If anybody is going to bother to listen to my mix on lala, be sure to hit the "play songs" link near the top of the page. That's the only way they'll play as a mix. Also, if you're not familiar, you can only listen to each full song once. hth.

Thanks, I will. I always heard they were the Matador darlings after Pavement but every time I listened I thought it was awful.

Reviewed most of this and...to be honest...was introduced to some interesting new stuff. However...have I slipped that much, or is nothing off Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace considered worthy of anyone's mix tape?

I think mine was the only Foos song drafted.

I love the Foos, and almost picked something from Echoes just for the sake of including them on my mix, but ultimately I realized I just don't love that album that much
