I don't have much of a theme, other than a lot of these bands are the ones who've gotten me interested in new music over the last five years or so (special thanks to the hoof!). Most of the music nuts probably have most of this stuff and I don't know #### about flow, but I gave it a shot. Enjoy!

####, just put it in this order.

JML did you number your mix 67 - 93 just to annoy me or was there another reason?
Sorry for any hassles, the first one on my list was down the pecking order so I just numbered it 70 something to get it low. To have all the others in the order I wanted I just numbered around it. Didn't think anything of it, just wanted the order right.

Part time lurker of these threads - so here is my one cent...I think that a "Live Concert" one would be interesting. You draft the song - then, when you mixtape it you select an artist who has a live recording of it....Would it be an original band version on the official release?...Or a cover band version?...Or a bootleg version?Once someone drafts "Twist and Shout" by The Beatles, no one can come along and draft "Twist and Shout" by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (or, vice-versa).But, ultimately, the person who drafts "Twist and Shout" can select either one for their mixtape.

Okay, it's done. Enjoy, hate, whatever you prefer. For the record, I like some parts of this mix, but not all of it. ok sorry for the delay. here is my final pick:

27.22 Shiny Toy Guns - Le Disko (3:23)

0:57 remaining

you can stipulate your own fewer-than-fifty-seven-second novelty track at a point of your choosing in the final mix.

i'm working on packaging everything up right now and will post details when i'm done.

http://www.mediafire.com/?qm5mkb4qa0mHere's my draft order:
Code:

i don't really have a theme but i did aim for a certain mood. these songs are generally upbeat and on the poppy side, but with some depth and a little edge to them. i recommend this mix for vigorous outdoor activities, energetic dancing, and/or driving slightly too fast for road conditions. enjoy!thanks to NV and others who kept this show moving along. thanks to valence for the invite. thanks to everyone for putting up with this noob. this was a lot of fun! but if i'm going to do another one of these i need to be better organized, especially on days when i'm also supposed to go to work and stuff.

here's mine. enjoy.val's superawesome 00s draft mixtape.

No theme for this mix--just songs from the decade that I like. I tried to order them with some semblance of flow and separating genres to some degree.13 Ike Reilly - Last Time
Hey Marco, "Last Time" failed for me.uh

I just bundled my mp3s into a zip folder and stuck the appropriate # in front of each title. The mix works better without cross fading between tracks, so don't use itunes to play.

PS Could someone please confirm that this works?

bumping due to all important link correction. Drinking and posting don't mix.
Can't get Track 18 to open.

I'll give us time to digest these, but thought I'd throw draft idea I've been throwing around (might have posted in another thread too)

How about a "mystery theme" draft? Kind of a combo of the weird category movie drafts. I thought I'd have people submit themes for a mix tape to me via PM. Whoever signs up for the draft gets randomly assigned one of the submitted themes to make a mix tape for. The person who submitted the idea would know why songs are getting drafted, but the rest of the participants wouldn't. Figured all genres/decades would be open, but it might make us think outside of what we normally draft and could churn out some interesting stuff. Would there be any interest in this??
This has grown on me.Already have about a 1/2 dozen potential themes for submission.

Should be fun.

:pickle:

Walkmen song didn't appear in the download and had trouble with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, said there was an error. Will listen tomorrow and provide pompous comments.

Good mixes all. I thought the 90s draft produced better overall mixes, but thanks for introducing me to McClusky. Totally missed the boat on them when they were around. Can't stop listening to them now.

Favorite mix: Dreaded Marco ...piratemike a close second....

Thanks DM. If you haven't yet checked out Future of the Left, you should---it's 2/3 of McLusky and they have two pretty solid albums out.

Piratemike's Piraughtmix

1. McLusky - Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues (1:51)

Great album starter. Not new to me, but I think I listen to this band a lot less than most.

2. Black Lips - Everybody's Doin' It (2:41)

Hadn't heard this before, I like their new stuff a lot. This was good, not great IMO.

3. TV on the Radio - Young Liars (5:12)

Really good song/band.

4. Jay Reatard - My Shadow (3:18)

Really like this song. Shows his undeniable pop instincts.

5. Of Montreal - Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse (3:18)

My favourite Of Montreal song.

6. Andrew Bird - A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left (4:59)

This song is boring, with a really great chorus.

7. Bon Iver - Flume (3:39)

This album didn't do much for me and this song still doesn't. Maybe I need to go live in the woods for a year or something. I did like "Blood Bank".

8. Elliott Smith - Twilight (4:29)

This is a pretty song. I'm not a huge Elliot Smith fan, I know a lot of people like the quiet, depressing sound (how else can you explain Bright Eyes) but it's not for me.

9. Sleater-Kinney - Let's Call It Love (11:01)

Wasn't a big fan of this. It was like a really annoying Yeah Yeah Yeahs song that never ends.

10. The Black Keys - Black Door (3:30)

11. Deerhunter - Never Stops (3:04)

Both really good songs from albums I should listen to more.

12. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes - White winter hymnal (2:27)

This is the only song by this band, that I would actually care if I never heard it again.

13. Portishead - We Carry On (6:27)

I realize you have a theme going here but there were multiple songs from this album taken and none of them were "Machine Gun"?

14. Panda Bear - Take Pills (5:23)

My favourite Panda Bear song (once it gets going).

15. The Walkmen - In the New Year (4:22)

Really good song. Sounds amazing live as well.

16. Grizzly Bear - Colorado (6:13)

Panda Bear >> Grizzly Bear

17. Animal Collective - I Think I Can (7:09)

I only like about 1 in 10 AC songs, this isn't one of them.

18. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Porcelain (2:59)

19. Diplo and Santogold - 01-Dub Selection Intro (0:44)

Good YYY's song, the other works as a transition song

20. Outkast - B.O.B. (5:04)

21. M.I.A. - Paper Planes (3:24)

Both great songs.

22. S.maharba - Pianomouth (5:30)

Liked this a lot, who is this?

23. Illa J - All Good (3:05)

Works well as a closer, even if the song doesn't do too much for me.

Thanks NV, sounds like you liked it for the most part.

I knew my mix wouldn't all be smash hits from beginning to end, but I hoped that the theme would come across more or less coherently, the songs would flow well from one to the next, and I'd be able to get in all the artists that mattered to me over the decade.

For the most part I'd say I was successful. Lyrics did make a difference, and I ended up cutting some great songs for some good songs that went better with my theme. People were talking about a theme when the draft started and I thought, "Oh ####! I need a theme?" So that changed my draft a little.

Definitely enjoyed it. I liked about 75% of the songs, which is probably pretty good for this type of thing. Obviously people are going to have different tastes etc...

Going to see Alice in Chains tonight. I haven't heard the new album but should be fun nonetheless.
Couldn't download Track 11.
really? I'll check it out when I get home tonight, but someone else downloaded it and said everything worked.can anyone else confirm that track 11, LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great is broken?

NV> S.maharba is just some beats that I ran across awhile back. Can't remember how I found it, honestly. I have 14 tracks or so, but the She EP is the best stuff I've heard. I'll hoof it tomorrow.

The common link in the problematic uploads seems to be mediafire:

I did have quite a few broken tracks, I just replaced them myself off waffles. Now that I think about it, pretty likely mediafire was the common factor.

I am thinking about starting the discussion and letting people submit themes next week, and maybe start within a couple weeks of that. Figured we'd give us nerds time to get our themes and plot out our strategy. I guess it will depend on the themes, but I was thinking that we'd take away the max #/artist or band rule that we've had in the other ones. Didn't think we'd run into it as much if all eras are open and it would let people use whatever they want if the themes are specific/weird.
