Sorry for the prolonged absence, but I can close out my draft right now.
13.13 Nina Nastasia--That's All There Is 4:27 The saddest song. In concert with my "hang yourself" theme, this song isn't about the end of a relationship, as much as it is about the abandonment of hope for any sort of happiness. Though my wife any many others vehemently disagree, I think Nina Nastasia is the finest singer-songwriter performing today, and has crafted 3 the decades best records. This song is from The Blackened Air, her least-strange collection of songs.
14.14Silkworm--Xian Undertaker 6:17 Silkworm were the most underated band of the last 20 years. Tim Midgett and Michael Dahlquist were an amazing, expressive, deliberately simple rhythm section (self-described as "hard-hat and lunch-pail") with one of their generation's most technically accomplished guitarists in Andy (The Hebrew Hendrix) Cohen. They were together for about 20 years before Dahlquist and three of his coworkers were killed when rear-ended by a self-absorbed freakshow of a woman intent on taking her own life. Sadly, she lived and should be getting out of prison soon. "Xian Undertaker" is a Tim Midgett classic about, suprise, death. This song features piano, mandolin, Tin Pan Alley affectations, and Midgett's gentle remonstrations of those who would believe in an afterlife.
You can't do thatScrew it, someone else did it

Finished Prof's first run, and despite getting a 5 star for Hurt, it didn't rate as well as Abrantes. Part of it comes from me being a bit very picky when it comes to rap/hip hop. So the results are a bit skewed. Even songs from guys I like in general like Common and QTip didn't strike me well. 10 one star selections. A 4 for Ms Jackson and 5 for Hurt. 3 stars (and therefore bands I intend to delve into) for Airborn Toxic and Cormega. Didn't necessarily like the 2 star rated Gnarls, Ali, Avetts, or Nutini but intend to listen to more as there are strains of stuff I like and it just may be that this particular fare from them didn't strike me. But hey, if I find one band out of a playlist it's a success in the long run. As always, thanks for the picks.

5 ####### stars for Taskerlol
Just wanted to say that the fake review schtick is awesome and I wish I had thought of itSteve Tasker said:Unbiased album review says my album is high-quality:
Act I: "Sunset on a Saturday"1. The Roots - "Phrenthrow"Album review: "I'm Sorry Young Man, There's No Skating Here: A Love Story in 4 Acts" by Steve Tasker
"ISYM,TNSH:ALSi4A is an unbelievable masterpiece." - New York Times
Steve Tasker, a veteran of the underground road-trip mixtape series, and the creator of such tapes as "####ty Europop Dance Music 08" and "All New Order, All the Time" cold-cocks the mixtape scene with his latest jaunt - "I'm Sorry Young Man, There's No Skating Here: A Love Story in 4 Acts". The mixtape, which is already receiving Grammy buzz and was named Rolling Stone's album of the month, features an eclectic mix of hip-hop, indie rock, and just general trash music. "Well, when we started," said Tasker, "I had literally no theme in mind. But as we went on, I started weaving this sensational love story - boy meets girl, the two #### like stoned rabbits, they both cheat on one another, and then get back together. It's the ultimate story of redemption."
The album's 4 acts each feature a different theme in the twisting plot. The story begins with The Roots' eerie "Phrenthrow" before delving into the story itself with Lupe Fiasco's "Kick, Push". The story's protagonist meets and falls in love with a girl at the skateboard park. As the two become closer and closer, Tasker's lighthearted and upbeat selections - such as Feist's "Mushaboom (Postal Service Remix)" and Vampire Weekend's "M79" - keep the mood fun and fresh. Act II, designed to signify the physical relationship that comes with, in his own words, "stoned rabbits #######", features a nice mix of house, new wave, and electropop sounds. But as the act dwindles, the eccentric sounds give way to more gloomy, ominous tracks, including Ladytron's "Destroy Everything You Touch" and Crystal Castles' "Untrust Us".
After a brief interlude, the story picks back up once again, with our two lovers splitting up after a fight at the shoreline. A love pentagon has formed and has torn the two apart. Tasker manages to keep the usually emo song themes upbeat with his lyrical choices - "I could've sworn that one and one make two...but it's 5!" (Architecture in Helsinki) or "Oh, #######it, I think I've lost you" (Hot Hot Heat). The third act gets increasingly more depressing, headed up by his first two draft picks, but Act IV finishes the mixtape on an upbeat note. Highlighted by a pair of Sigur Ros tracks and the Bloc Party classic "Banquet", the act is meant to signify the reunion of our two protagonists.
Personally, in our opinion, we don't think the theme or the song choices make any sense. But the album has a cool name, and the songs are ok. For a theme that was completely thrown together this afternoon, we have no choice but to give it two thumbs up.

I was going for an accessible mix that could possibly get people interested in stuff that doesn't suck. Probably nothing new for most of the participants in this thing, but I'm going to push it onto friends and relatives. Via facebook if nothing else.EDIT: Just noticed the typo... should be "Love Bad Music"."Good Music For People Who Like Bad Music"![]()

Undisputed Truth was my favorite hip hop album from 2007.Thanks for listening. I'd strongly suggest Brother Ali's "Shadows On The Sun" - the track I chose is FAR from the best track on there but it fit the story I was trying to tell with my mix.
you took a few that were on my list. Most notably the Gaslight Anthem song and the Exploding Hearts song. Feel better? No Snipes Were Harmed During Production Of This Mix Tape
It seems like I didn't ever snipe anybody or get sniped during the duration of this draft. My mix doesn't have any songs by artists who maxed out their six picks either. It does probably feature the first FFA draft appearance of DJ Jazzy Jeff unless some Fresh Prince songs were picked in the hip hop draft.
That's really not much of a theme but mixes are about flow more than anything else.

That's my one thematic element, putting a song about dying in a car crash after an Exploding Hearts song. I could have picked DBTs "Shut Up & Get on the Plane" but there weren't a lot of bands who perished in plane crashes in this decade.ETA: Aaliyah and the guy from Chuck Mangione's band but neither segues well with the DBTsvalence said:you took a few that were on my list. Most notably the Gaslight Anthem song and the Exploding Hearts song. Feel better?
Is this the order or is it how the songs are downloaded? Also the Pinback song didn't go through.-http://www.mediafire.com/?ooknjl0tnok
