2005 FBG/NFL Mock Draft Rounds 2 and 3 (1 Viewer)

Colts selectRB VErnand Morency Write up will follow
GRRRRRRRR wanted him to fall to the stillers.GREAT pick... bye bye edge if this happens. this guy would be a first round grade RB in a draft without 3 elite RB prospects(cadillac, brown, benson), and another with elite RB tools (fason)

Colts selectRB VErnand Morency Write up will follow
Projecting the loss of James. I like the pick as I have him as a top 5 rb in this draft.
Can you imagine the fantasy hype that would surely follow if that scenario plays out? I doubt there would be much "value" to be had with Morency..

Arrington seems like a better fit for the Colts and could be available a round later. Otherwise, I like Barber here better than Morency.

Taylor,You show Denver as having a 3rd round pick on the first page. They forfeited that pick due to salary cap reasons (I think). Just so you know.

Bloom here making the Steelers pick on behalf of evilgrin - we consulted before making a final selection.

Well, with Plax possibly leaving Chris Henry is so so so tempting. But, we dont know if he's leaving, AND Chris Henry has serious character issues, which is a big red flag in the steelers war room. still, his first round talent seems like a steal in the late 2nd. If Plax leaves, at this point Henry would be the risk worth taking. Since that is not a sure thing, we are going with:

Eric Shelton, RB, Louisville

6'3" 250 + breakaway speed (!) Tons of upside as he split time with some other great backs at louisville. The Steelers running game is going to lose Bettis any day now, and Staley is no long term solution. Shelton is a perfect fit to our running game, and has the physical abilities to be as good as any RB in this draft. The possibilities of the steelers maintaining their domination in the power running game with him carrying the rock are too good to pass up. Kay Jay Harris and Cedric Houston were also considerations here. Need is at CB and DE, but the value at those positions sucks right now, and the value at RB and WR is excellent. Fred Gibson was also considered at WR.

As a steeler fan, i drool at the thought of shelton in our backfield.

Steelers select RB Eric Shelton, Lousiville.

Was looking at Canty, Green, Morency, Alex Smith, and Perkins here but all were snapped up recently. This was a toss-up between Shelton and Chris Henry of West Virginia. I can't believe a playmaker of Henry's caliber is still around despite the character issues, and if Burress walks, he would definitely be the pick here. However, with the CB and DE crops kind of thin at the moment, and players we in the war room like liable to still be available in round 3, I wanted to get a potential franchise back to play behind Roethlisberger once Bettis/Staley are gone. At 6' 3" 250 lbs with 4.5 speed, Shelton has the size and quickness to do serious damage in the Steelers power running attack and would be an ideal fit here. He may not be the right guy for every team, but for Pittsburgh, I think he can be a good fill-in guy right away and a 5-10 year starter down the road. Too much to pass up here as I believe both Shelton and Kay-Jay Harris will be gone by the time we choose again. As I said, Henry was a consideration, as was J.J. Arrington, who I feel is an immensely talented back, but ultimately would end up as a third-down guy for Pittsburgh. You don't need to get a guy like that in round 2.

San Diego Chargers select - Reggie Brown - WR - Georgia.write up late on .
I would rather see the Chargers get Chris Henry or Georgia's other WR Fred Gibson. Gibson/Brown reminds me of Clayton/Henderson last year.

Wow, this is a very difficult decision for me. I must say I had a very long day at work today (still here), so I am not prepared for this pick. While I still cant believe Henry is available, I had my eyes on JJ Arrington. JJ has plenty of speed and versatility to make it in the NFL, but his (dare I say) Westbrook size is less than desirable for an everydown back. He will only be needed to backup Westbrook as most likely CBuck is gone unless he agrees to play less.

That said, the difference in positional talent between Chris Henry and JJ Arrington is huge. Which is why I think taking Chris Henry here, late in the second round, will be a good move for the team, and hopefully a little eye opener for Chris to get his act together. Chris is young, immature, and most likely thinks he is the center of the world. Not a common pick for my Eagles. I dont see Mitchell returning and we all know the Pinkston doesnt scare anyone unless he is running long. I like the upside of Henry as a WR3/4 with Owens, Pinkston, and Lewis. Almost reminds me of Carter, Reed, and Moss ;) .

On a side note, I will garuntee that Henry doesnt fall past pick 50, so it almost makes this pick moot.

With the FINAL pick in the 2nd round the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS Select ILB KIRK MORRISON from San Diego St.

With four LB's in their 30's (Brushci, Johnson, McGinest & Phifer) the Patriots select a tackling machine in the Belichick mold- Young and coachable. In college he was all over the field and rarely out of position. Strong enough to take on OLmen and a force in the run game. He's also fast enough to cover a back coming out of the backfield. Only negatives I've seen in his game is the lack of blitz production. But overall a 8.5 point rating.

The PATS need to start getting younger at the position and with a 1st round rating on this guy (in their eyes) they feel they've stolen him in the late 2nd round.

I really dont like how my draft went. I definately drafted BPA instead of positionally. I dont think that is traditional for the Eagles organization of late. Nor do I think the Eagles will draft this way come April. It came down to me thinking there was excellent value on the board with players I havnt even been able to watch at the combine or have workouts for. Intereting drill, but I am confident my draft is far from how it will go for the Eagles. Most likely the Eagles will draft a DT, OT, and RB with the first 3 picks.

I think you got a still in Henry. As a TO owner, I wouldn't love this pick for the birds as I see Henry becoming a big-time redzone target.

On the topic of being happy or not, the Colts are thrilled to come away with Justin Miller and Vernand Morency with their first two picks. While some thought Arrington would be better, we went with Morency because we felt he was ready to contribute right away. With the expected turnover at the RB position in Indy we needed depth if Edge left and a replacement if he only plays on a 1 yr deal.On another note, the closer we get the more I think that Nolan and the 49ers will go best player available and if they cannot trade out, you will hear...with the 1st pick in the 2005 draft, the San Francisco 49ers select, Derrick Johnson Linebacker, University of Texas.Tom

I think we're all pretty much in the same boat, that's why it is interesting. There's alot of good info in here.As for the 2nd round, a bunch of picks stand out. Roth to the Lions (great value here), Fason to the Bucs (depends on Gruden's love for the Cad in round 1 maybe), and Frye to the Pack (Favre replacement in '06?) to name a few. Anyone want to start another thread and keep it updated or wait for LT?

The 49ers don't have an owner so we will need a committee pick for 3.1So far they have Aaron Rodgers QB and Brandon Browner CB. They probably go BPA here, who does everybody have?I would offer up CJ Moseley DT Missouri, JJ Arrington RB Cal or Marcus Johnson OG Ole Miss

Mosley is a steal here.... i would have picked him in the 2nd if I wouldn't have went hawthorne in the 1st.

Especially before the Senior Bowl... After this weekend, Mock drafts all over the country will be altered somewhat, as will our own opinions.....Great Stuff...

Mosley is a steal here I thought about his at 64 but the PATS have so many young DLmen that I went LB.

I would think the Niners need to go OL here that was their worst part o fthe team last year. My vote is Marcus Johnson

Here is the ROUND 3 order. I wil PM BSR for the Rams pick.1. San Francisco 49ers -2. St. Louis Rams(from Miami) -3. Cleveland Browns -4. Miami Dolphins (from Chicago) -5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -6. My second round write up for the Chargers pick:Reggie Brown - wr - Georgia - First, after adding solid defensive players in the first round, I really wanted to address the O-line with this pick, but Barnes, Britt and Baas were all gone.My next hope was that Blackstock, Burnett or Wallace would fall and then we could address the linebacking core, which while solid last year, is rather an older veteran group. That leaves us with WR, now everyone on this board feels they need to address this position in the draft and very well could. I've seen mocks with them taking Roddy White and/or Roscoe Parrish in the late second. I gotta admit Henry from WVU could have been a better pick but, Reggie Brown has excellent size and speed and blocking ability, he's been turning heads at Senior Bowl practice. Overall, Brown adds depth and is not really needed to step in and play right away and has time to develop.

my vote for RAMS is Craphonso Thorpe (Issac won't be around for ever) as Martz always wants to make him token O pick. As the first two picks were safe and nice.

i vote for jj arrington, he is the perfect fit for the rams offense, and faulk's days are numbered - this is the draft to build your RB depth, and the rams have nothing long term after sjax.

I'll go along with that thought....except I'll play devil's advocate and go with Fred Gibson here. I think he could compliment Holt very nicely if Martz can develop him. He would also add a little height to a relatively short WR group (I believe they are all 6'0 and under). But he doesn't fit the speedster mold that Thorpe would.

I like the Arrington idea a lot for the Rams. I like Thorpe or Gibson but less. But what about Marcus Johnson? You've got a OL that can play G or T, went into the senior bowl generally ranked as a 2nd round prospect, impressed at the senior bowl, can list pass blocking as a strength, and you've got a team with all of about 3 good OL that likes to pass (but only because Martz is an idiot, right?).Curtis looks like a player so I would think unless you LOVE Gibson or Thorpe, even if yo want a WR here you would be willing to wait a dozen or so picks.

Well, they did take Munoz in the 2nd. I'll mark you down for M. Johnson.Good point that they do have another 3rd round pick, and there are alot of WRs on the board. Anyone rethinking this? I think this Rams pick will take a little longer to come to a consensus. Anyone else? They have taken Crowder LB and Munoz OT so far, and have another pick in the 3rd.

mmmm, chowder. that had better be a great bowl of soup or that was one hell of a reach, right up there with Robert Thomas.

I'm thinking about lunch..

I think Jovan Haye, DE, Vanderbilt would be a nice pick for the Rams here..

The Rams certainly could use some help along the DL -- especially with the memory of how the Falcons ran all over them in the playoffs still fresh in their minds.

Haye is a big guy who is very athletic {led the SEC in sacks as a sophomore} and plays the run and pass equally well. He's smart and a leader too.

I don't get why people are suggesting the Rams take a WR or a RB  They seem pretty loaded at those positions to me. I thought Kevin Kurtis looked extremely well and Looker showed some promise too.Isn't Steven Jackson their man at RB?

I will give a vote for Mosley. I thought he'd be gone by now.

Noted.I'll let this go until 3PM. Right now Thorpe is the pick.
