I don't think I've had a single lineup with a WR over $20 either. Lockett might be the biggest temptation. I can understand the argument for McLaurin, but it's tough for me imagining Fitz starting 17 games in a season.
I only have one WR over $20, and it's Woods at $22.  I like the WR value on the cheaper end, which allowed me to pay up for TEs and a RB1.  I usually never pay more than $32 on QB, and I have 3 at $30 total.

If you picked your other two QBs correctly, it's better to move that QB3 to another position.
Agree.  I usually go with two QBs at middling prices, but this year I have Brady, Darnold and Bridgewater, so I get 3 QBs for the price to 2 middling ones, gives me a better chance at getting a decent QB score when Brady is on bye.

I always try and limit my QB budget to $30-32.

I like that trio. Was looking long at darn old. Instead I think I’m going with an elderly starter and two rookies.

It's funny how a little thing like Chris Herndon at $5 is making me rethink my entire roster composition.  It's a sickness really.
He's a definite add for those paying attention to injuries and trades. He is FOR SURE going to break out this time.

So, with a full week to go before this thing locks up, I have completed my roster churn today. Waiting for the post where you win a prize as long as you don't make any changes, so I am good.

I believe that my roster will have many of the ones that the thread posters all see as bargains, but definitely will have several with low ownership also.

  • QBs - three for a total of $33 - really think that three is mandated by additional covid byes
  • RBs - six for a total of $70
  • WRs - seven for a total of $84
  • TEs - four for a total of $45 - larger than normal investment
  • PKs - three for a total of $8
  • DSTs - four for a total of $10

We may have the same QBs. I have changed them several times and kept going back to the old guy.

This makes me consider your Herndon feedback in a new light 😛
regarding Herndon, you might want to also add Conklin, so that you have the full impact of noodle arm "how do you like me now?" with his high dependence on short route passes to the TEs.

QB - 3 for 32
RB - 8 for 85
WR - 8 for 76
TE - 3 for 37
K - 3 for 12
D - 4 for 8

I don't recall having spent more on RB than WR before. Still tweaking.

I do need some help from the great group of "contest thread forum" guys. I am trying to get involved in the Patriot's passing game since Newton was cut and Jones was named the starter. Who is the top wide receiver to have there? It seems a tough call between Meyers and Agholor. Neither costs much, but it doesn't seem to be a position where you want both. Can I get some feedback from our regulars on this contest impactful split?

I've never really considered adding Agholor or Henry for that matter.  May be a blind spot for me, but I prefer Meyers and Jonnu.

I haven't actually changed my roster for a whole 48 hours and may be looking like I can finally rest after weeks of roster churn:

QB - 3/$28

RB - 6/$104

WR - 6/$67

TE - 3/$39

K - 3/$8

DEF - 2/$4

Sure RB is bunch of money but 1-2 of my top 4 most likely will be my weekly flex, and every year I try to get cute and cut corners with RB and get bounced like week 6.

I think the Weekly % cut rather than a set number is really going to be a shock to the system for a lot of casual team managers this season.

Much like @Dacomish, I think I'm done unless some breaking news affects the fantasy landscape in the next 5 days.

QB - 3/$38

RB - 7/$103

WR - 6/$65

TE - 3/$31

K - 2/$7

DEF - 2/$9

I think there's a good chance every player will have a chance to contribute any week with 2 late-season gems if things play out like I think they could.

Best of luck to all!

I admit that I had Brady in one of my QB spots from my first roster selections. But, I decided to go with four QBs in the Covid threatening season that is 2021, so he got the boot today. I am spending $33 for my four player QB room, so I am going cheap, but deep.

Please advise if this is a colossal blunder.

I've settled on 3/$36 6/$87 6/$66 3/$48 2/$8 2/$5, but it's a crap shoot.

What my current iteration looks like:

QB 3/$24

RB 5/$81

WR 6/$73

TE 2/$57

K 3/$9

DST2/$6

21 players, which feels a little low with the rule changes but I like my team.

30 players. Impressive. I can’t believe you managed 12 receivers.
Yea first time I've gone with 30 in about 10 years. I'm hoping having a larger roster will keep me in longer with the new cut rule. This contest is my favorite thing about FF now. I hate getting bounced early.

I probably will get little help from my TEs but like most of the rest of my roster.

I can believe the WR part, the three TE for $18 is the tougher pill.
I'm guessing its Firsker, Ertz and Arnold.  It's easy to fall too much in love with value and lose sight of needing points power with your starters.  I'm probably making the same mistake with the WR position this year.

Feel like I should switch from Hyde to Ollison near the bottom of my roster because the sharps are really piling on the James Robinson train, but I can't force myself to do it.

I am going with 23 players, which is typical for me.  I seem to be at 22-24 players ever year.

3 QBs at $30

4 RBs at $75

7 WRs at $79

3 TEs at $46

3 PK at $10

3 TD at $10

I usually go with 2 middling priced QBs, but with COVID and the amount of cheap options at QB, went with 3.

The RB pricing is hard, so I am going to gamble with only 4 RBs but they all are the clear cut starters and will get a lot of carries.  They all have different byes.

I like the WR value this year.  I have only 1 WR at over $20, and it's Woods at $22.  Seems like many of us are loading up on cheap options.

Getting good WR value allowed me to pay up for Kelce and still get two decent cheap TEs (Jonnu and Everett) to get the occasional flex score.  Kelce is a monster in this format.

And as usual, I go cheap at PK and TD.  Never understood paying up for one of the top kickers or defenses.

Ah:

Some changes for 2021

The elimination portion of the contest will run from weeks 1 to 14. The final round will consist of weeks 15 through 17.

A fixed percentage (25%) of entries will be cut each week, rather than a fixed number, as has been the case in previous years.

I like having Kelce and Waller!  I tried that combination, but I couldn't go that cheap at QB.

May want to check the Ollison news before you do that.

I want so badly to find $3 to pick him up. Can I go with 2 k or 2 D/ST? hmm....
Re my prior quandry, I'm currently rolling with 2 $4 kickers, a $3 defense and a $2 defense.  So....go for it!

Kidding aside, it's probably a mistake to not have 3 kickers (I'm doing it anyway), but I'm not sure I buy the need to have 3 defenses.

If it weren’t for the Covid threat of forfeited games, I would feel a lot better about roster and two players at either of those positions.

I think I might be set now after a little more tinkering today. I feel pretty good about it. Nobody at the same position has the same bye week.

I hear you on the COVID concern especially when its a low start position like QB/TE/K and a COVID concern/injury concern could cost you if you go light, but after them making teams play EVERY game last year in a lot less vaccinated and protocol compliant time I can't see entire games being abandoned especially an entire Defense. I think NFL teams will have a much better handle on COVID precautions and you are seeing teams take ownership of how to manage it and will be much better this year.

In terms of who to roster I just can't justify doing more than 2 after looking at the FBG Strength of Schedule Defense and their Streaming Defenses articles, I found 2 that will literally score 4 points less total combined than the top Defense. Set and forget with those 2 for me. I'd rather save that $$ elsewhere where unfortunately a single case of COVID/Injury could sink me.

And I do believe 3 K's will help curb the single COVID/Injury case fears though, same for QB and TE too!

I agree actually, but there’s also the “best ball” aspect to the contest.

Would you rather have 2x $3 defenses, or 3x $2 defenses?

because the difference is low, I’d say the latter. Because who knows which week that 1 or 2 points will save you from elimination.

it’s a challenging contest. COVID forfeitures make it even moreso.

good luck!

Oh absolutely and for the record I have 2x $2 defenses, I have gone back and forth with one of them as a $3 defense, but I needed that $1 somewhere else and always sacrificed the defense to do it. Between my 3 K's and 2 Def's I have spent only $12 - will it sink me, perhaps but I'd rather have that extra few $$ for an upgreade from a WR3 to WR2 or RB3 to RB2.....just my own strategy, and that's the greatness of this contest, trying to do just enough to get by each week, and have enough to stand out at the end....lol!

Good luck to you too HSG its gonna be cool to see all the final rosters after lock! I think this season with the cut down changes its gonna be a bit more fun to score watch!

Agree.

This year more than most I’ve tried to go with lower $ players to diversify,  but it’s so hard because I know you have to hit on at least one “elite” to get those ceiling weeks.

Base hits/small ball will keep you in the standings longer, but without a home run hitter, can you win?

it’s very challenging.

I had to cut Michael Thomas today.  Not knowing if he'll be back Oct 25 or Nov 7 or ??? is too much of a risk given I'm already thin at WR by design.  Not happy about it could I like the negative bias towards Winston and the passing game, but so be it.  Increasing roster from 22 to 24 eases the pain.

I think automatically anchoring 3 guys to your bench is a mistake especially at a position where all should post a score if they play.
