2023 FBG Subscriber Contest (4 Viewers)

I have both the $4 Moss and $3 Dell but as per always I only can get a 18 player roster as I just can't figure out how to not play with a few studs I don't know how people do it to get to 20+ players.
I need my Mahomes, Jefferson and Kelce guys.

Those three guys are $97, my top 3 (Burrow, CMC, and Chase were $91) and I got to 25, so you can pull it off you just gotta get a little more uncomfortable with the rest of your rooster and look for the cheap guys who have a realistic opportunity. Picking the mid-price guys is probably the hardest bit. Kelce makes things a bit tougher on the structure for sure though as he is uniquely expensive at his position (my 4 TEs combined cost $39 by comparison).

I'm sitting on 190.30 after the 8pm game, with (Mixon and Van Jefferson -11.50) left to go Monday night...

I'm also in the Chubb club :frown: , but with any luck, I'm hoping to stick around a few more weeks...

There have been lots of injuries to key players this season, and now it looks like Mike Williams is about to also be lost.
This contest is as much about avoiding injuries as it is picking scorers, and larger rosters tend to have higher survival rates.

All my players are done and I'm sitting at 156, thanks to my unlikely heros of Tua, Courtland Sutton, and Sam LaPorta. I'm in the group that lost Chubb, but at least I get Kamara next week to keep giving me false hope that I can stay alive, haha!

I really need Christian Watson to come back at some point. Figured at worst he would miss a game or two because Green Bay didn’t put him on IR.

I have one $30 player (ARSB), and one $20 player (Fields). I also have 3 at every position, hoping for breakthroughs.

I rostered Joshua Palmer thinking that Keenan Allen was the injury risk, not Mike Williams, so Palmer might actually contribute going forward for me. Still obviously wish I had rostered Tank Dell and Puka with that $6 instead of Palmer, but oh well...

Cruising to week 4 with 206 points with Mixon and Gainwell to go (-12.3 and -13.3). I've always been an 18-22 player roster entry and this year decided to try the 28 man version and am loving it.

Where can I find out which player's I used in weeks 1 and 2?

I'm pretty sure I haven't used any of my top 3 expensive RBs (Mixon, Kamara, Herbert) and have only used my top 3 expensive Wrs once each (Pickens, Dotson, Sutton) but would like to look it up to find out for sure?

Click on your team result for this week. Then look at the URL of that page and you'll see a "3" at the end of it. Change that to "2" and press enter. That will show you your week 2 result, and which players were used in your point total. Then do the same for week 1.

Pickett looking like less awful of a pick this week.

yeah...modest signs of life from pickett.

yet another week of warren with YPC > Najee Harris and Harris with most of the carries.

Harris def was a do not own for me in this - mainly bc I owned him the last 2 years in regular fantasy and swore off him.

I thought I had a good strategy to use Mostert as a bridge until Gibbs and Warren ramped up touches....but this was all for the RB2 slot with Chubb as RB1. I still have some hope but it depends on timing. Yesterday, I wasn't watching the early games for a bit and when I heard that Achane had 2 TDs I assumed I was toast. Then Scott Hansen told me that Mostert had 4 TDs. LOL.

Edited to add Pickett actually outscored Goff by a hair. Hope springs eternal. 188.25 + (Jake Elliott - 13).

146.60 and mostly done for the week. Brett Maher can pour on some gravy if he tops 8.1.

Not stellar, but so far I have avoided injuries, which is no small feat in 2023.

192.45 for the week - and for the first time this year my actual entry outscored the previous versions I had made.

Usage Report:

QBs: Pickett $10 - 2. Burrow $21 - 1.
RBs: McCaffrey $34 - 3. Walker $19 - 2. Gainwell $8 - 1. K Herbert $13 - 0. BIgsby $9 - 0. Evans $3 - 0.
WRs: Nauca $3 - 3. Chase $36 - 2. Doubs $9 - 2. Dell $3 - 2. Dotson $14 - 1. A Pierce $7 - 0. Mi Wilson $3 - 0.
TEs: Musgrave $6 - 2. Waller $17 -1. Kincaid $10 - 1. Otton $6 - 1.
PKs: Hopkins $3 - 1. Sanders $4 - 1. Santos $3 - 0.
DEFs: Lions $3 - 2. Chargers $3 - 1. Rams $3 - 0.

18 of 25 players used (for a while it looked like the total might increase but it remains the same as last week).
$209 out of $250 used so far.
Flex usage: WRs 4. TEs 2. RBs 0.

Total contribution.
QBs. 3 games. 63.55 points. 21.18 per week
RBs. 6 games. 122.20 points. 40.73 per week. 20.37 per play.
WRs. 10 games. 191.00 points. 63.67 per week. 19.10 per play.
TEs. 5 games. 64.90 points. 21.63 per week. 12.98 per play.
PKs. 3 games. 37.40 points. 12.47 per week.
DEFs. 3 games. 22.00 points. 7.33 per week.

QBs - Gotta keep the faith with Burrow that he'll be able to get better week by week but relieved that Pickett might at least put up decent numbers from time to time.
RBs - So far so good with the 2 top dollar guys in McCaffrey and Walker. Gotta hope Gainwell keeps his share. After that at least Herbert plays and at least Bigsby has gotten goal line looks. Feeling very probable that Evans will be a 0 all year barring injury.
WRs - Generally have to feel good. Nacua, Chase, Doubs and Dell all top options. Hopefully Dotson can show up occasionally. Pierce and Wilson at least having enough involvement that I hope they can break out an appearance sometime soon.
TEs - Solid but unspectacular so far. Everyone gets targets and involvement though it seems to vary by week. Glad to have the diversity.
PKs - Solid average and 3 guys who look like they are keeping their job so far so no complaints.
DEFs - Again a solid average so no complaints. I'll take that kind of average every week if I can get it.

On to week 4 :excited:

I have Burrow and Baker who has outscored him every week. I passed on Kelce and went with a core of Burrow, CMC, BR, Tyreek, Jefferson, and Pickens. Then 6 TE for less than 1 Kelce. Donald Parham ftw 🙌 That was the way to get to 24 players.

Thanks for adding dzambo (NateDawgs), Chubb owner, so we shall see how long I can last.

Awards and notable teams of the week. (I know scores may update later this week, but I doubt much changes here).

Strongest Living Team: After 3 weeks, there are 48 teams averaging at least 200 points. All of them, unsurprisingly, are still alive. Two teams are averaging a hair over 220 points: GUNMAN1217 (#103909) is on top at 220.8, with Entry #106572 breathing down their necks at 220.4.

Strongest Dead Team: The 840 teams with the highest average score are still alive. Then comes Entry #108451, tied for 841st with a 178.0 average, but sadly eliminated because they just missed the cutoff in week 2. Of the 1000 highest-averaging teams, only seven have been eliminated.

Keep Your Day Job Award: Entry #102381 isn’t a serious entry. They rostered 11 QBs and the minimum everywhere else. Their only TE is Noah Gray. I mention them only because they’ve managed to be so bad. Their weekly average of 57.1 points is nearly 30 points worse than their closest competitor. Among teams that were actually, you know, trying, Entry #104339 is comfortably in last, averaging 88.1 points per week, 6 points below the Wrecking Crew (#105142), who seem to have done very little wrecking so far.

Safest Team: busterboys (#100086) should be sleeping well these days. They are one of only two teams to score at least 200 every week so far, and they’ve cleared the cutoff by at least 82 points every week. In second place is Lenny D (#101120), at 74.

Just Skating By Award: Entry #107337, on the other hand, has been sweating it out every week. So far they’ve always managed to squeak it out, clearing the cutline by 1.7 to 2.7 points every week. On the flip side of this is the sad tale of Entry #104585, who has never been more than 1.2 points form the cutline, but fell just on the wrong side in week 1 (and again in week 3).

Steady Eddie Award: 12oclock Shadow (#109381) is kind of amazing: in the first 3 weeks, they’ve scored 160.25, 160.05, and 160.25 points, for a standard deviation of 0.12. The second-most-consistent team, wijimmy, has a standard deviation over 3 times as great, having followed up two consecutive 158.15 weeks with a massive fall-off to 157.55 this week.

Icarus Award: Nitschke (#105127) was in 5th place in the entire contest heading into week 3, but then collapsed with a score of 119.85. Losing Saquon and Aiyuk for the week sure didn’t help.

Would Coulda Shoulda Award: Entry #104427 is averaging 204 points over the last two weeks, good for 179th overall over that period. Sadly, they thought week 1 was still preseason and only put up 109 points that week, so it’s all moral victories from here on out.

And me, you ask? I’m doing great, sitting in 847th overall and clearing the cutline by at least 35 points every week so far.

Notable Teams:

QBs:
All double-digit QB teams have been gone since week 2. Of the five 9-QB teams, only one remains: Entry #100640.

RBs: This is kind of amazing. There are twelve 10-RB teams in the contest. They’ve all survived so far.

WRs: Entry #103897, with 17 WRs on the roster, is still with us. No other team has more than 14.

TEs: Three of the four 7-TE teams are still alive.

PKs: Entry #104058 is the last of the four 9-kicker teams standing. All four 8-kicker teams are alive.

DEFs: Entry #100051 is the only 9-defense team, and is still alive.

And now the players:

Eliminated Players: So far, only one player has been eliminated (meaning that no living team rosters him): Tristan Vizcaino’s four owners have all died.

The Biggest Mistake: The overall team survival rate sits at 73%. Not for the 17 Jonathan Taylor owners, though: only four of them are still with us, for an abysmal 23.5% survival rate. Of players rostered by 100 teams or more, Jerry Jeudy was the guy not to choose: only 46.1% of his teams are still alive. Other notables with survival rates under 60% include Allen Lazard (323 owners) and Joe Burrow (561 owners).

The Survivor: Raheem Mostert owners are obviously thrilled this week, and most of them are looking forward to next week. He has a healthy 92.3% survival rate. Two other guys, Tutu Atwell and Keenan Allen, are over 90%.

The Bargain: The aforementioned Tutu Atwell, who came at the cheapest possible cost ($3), is the obvious choice here. Among QBs, a shout-out to Gardner Minshew: 81.3% of teams who took him at a bargain basement price are alive.

The Parasite: Greg Dortch hasn’t scored a single point for his owners this year. No matter: 77.5% of his 142 owners are still alive, even with him just hitching a ride and not even offering gas money! There are five other guys with above-average survival rates who have yet to score a point: Corey Davis, Israel Abanikanda, Taylor Heinicke, Jarrett Stidham and Cedric Tillman. I’ll also note Sam Darnold, whose 0-point week 2 is his HIGHEST score of the year so far (to go with a -0.1 and a -0.2). However, only 50% of his teams have survived.

The Martyr: This is for a player who puts up great numbers every week but his teams keep dying despite his best efforts. There aren’t any really great examples this year. DK Metcalf has scored over 13 points each week and his teams have a below-average survival rate, but only just. Josh Allen has put up great numbers but his teams have a survival rate under 70%. I’ll note Deshaun Watson, whose lowest score is 18.9, but only 63% of his teams are alive. I guess he’s my pick. A little karmic justice there maybe.

Don't know how long I'll be around without Chubb, but I did make it to Kamara's return, so you can add team High Octane to your list, please.
I also survived without Chubb and now have Kamara, so if you could add Irelad, I'd appreciate it! (Roster 100029)

I have brought back my contest companion website for 2023!

I made it for one simple purpose: it allows you to see your players' performance for the entire season on ONE page. You just need to enter your team ID at the link above and watch the magic. (further instructions are at the link)

Once you have loaded your team the first time, you can then bookmark your team page if you like. No need to be entering your ID every time you come back.

This tool can also be used to track eliminated teams, if you want to see what could have been.

Feedback is welcome, have fun with it.

Special bonus factoid:

I was thinking about the Steady Eddie award and how it should probably be relative to the cutline vs. absolute scores. So I checked it out and I give you Entry #107470. In the first three weeks, this team has cleared the cutline by 42.9, 43.1, and 42.7 points respectively, for a standard deviation of 0.20 points. The next-most-consistent non-staff entry has a SD of 0.37.

However, there is a staff entry that's competitive here (though not as strong): Bloom (#109406) has cleared the cutline by 18.6, 18.2, and 18.3 points, for a SD of 0.22.
