Week 7 started with 25 folks still eligible for @Joe Bryant extra $100 prize. Today we mourn the loss of nobody, for the second time!

Let's congratulate the following for advancing:
Page 10 - @QuizGuy66 @JaBoo @Puppies @cstruk @ZWK @Kruegs @scottybo @Balco @TrishaRita
Page 9 - @apalmer @Galileo @firstseason1988 @Parmcat @Shaunz33 @wollac @SeniorVBDStudent @bamabuddha
Page 8 - @joey @BroncosFan07 @(HULK) @a_troll00 @themeanmachine @Deamon
Page 7 - @Dacomish @HairySasquatch

Of note
- Our highest score of the week was @ZWK with 218.3 points
- No bye teams in week 8, so every team is at full strength, whatever that means to each team

Bring on week 8!

Week 8 cut will be interesting with no teams on bye at all and the increase to 30% eliminated.

Did the NFL do this to coincide with the trade deadline or is this one of their usual random bye quirks? I never recall there being a mid-season week like this where there no byes - sometimes later on like week 12 or so but not one of the prime bye weeks of 7, 8, 9 or 10

-QG
I don’t recall this weird no bye week oddity either. No clue why it’s happening this year.

Awards and notable teams of the week.

Strongest Living Team: After week 7, we are down to a single team averaging over 200 points per week. That team was last week’s leader as well, One Giant Loss (#107797) and their week 7 score of 213.85 increased their average a tick to 206.6. Last week’s runner-up, Lavalley01 (#103589) is still the runner-up, but their weekly average dipped to 198.7. One Giant Loss has a huge lead, by the way: they are as far ahead of 2nd place as Lavalley01 is ahead of 20th.

Strongest Dead Team: For the first time in a while, the top 50 teams in scoring average are all alive. The strongest dead team is Entry #102082, sitting in 57th place overall at 185.5.

Keep Your Day Job Award: What was true last week is still true today: there is one team averaging under 60 points per week (Entry #102381) and nobody else averaging under 85 (actually 86). Among “serious” teams, Entry #104339 is pretty clearly the worst, averaging a paltry 96.2 points per week despite putting together a reasonable 22-man roster mix.

Safest Team: No change here this week, as One Giant Loss (#107797), the only team to clear the cutline by over 60 points, and Entry #107084, the only other team to clear by at least 50 each time, both had big weeks (213.85 and 192.5 respectively).

Just Skating By Award: There are changes here this week. Every living team has cleared the cutline by at least 17 points on at least one occasion now. The team on the thinnest ice is Grayson (#106691), whose maximum clearance was 17.65 points, achieved this week.

Steady Eddie Award: Our new leader here is double trouble (#101039), who has scored between 142 and 156 every week, for a standard deviation of 4.80. This is a big jump from last week, by the way, when our leader, FatnHappy, had a standard deviation of 3.0. Sadly, FatnHappy is neither after this week: they were eliminated.

By the way, there is one team that has been within 10 points of the cutline every single week: Entry #105257. They have the lowest standard deviation in the entire contest. Their problem is that they’ve just missed the cut three times.

Crazy Eddie Award: Do you remember the amazing Entry #104502, who had the highest standard deviation of any team in the contest and yet was still alive after week 6? Well, one of those things is still true. Their standard deviation went up this week and still leads all teams, but that’s because they put up an abysmal 87.8 (two weeks after leading all teams with a 276.2!) and got themselves eliminated.

At this point, the teams with the 30 highest standard deviations are all dead (as you might expect). In 31st position is Entry #107504, a team that’s scored in the 120s twice (but they picked the right weeks for it) and in the 230s twice, and are still competing despite a healthy 46.9 standard deviation.

Icarus Award: Dtown24 was sitting pretty, never scoring below 170 and sitting in 19th place overall after 6 weeks. It all came crashing down, though, as they missed the cutline by just 0.3 points this week. Lots of underperformers like Tua and Ridley and others did them in.

Woulda Coulda Shoulda Award: Poor Dirtypirates (#107096) repeats as the winner here. They actually improved their average since week 2, checking in as the 24th best team in the contest over that span. Too bad about missing the cutline in week 1 by 1.15 points.

Notable Teams:

QBs:
We lost the last 9-QB team this week. There were 43 teams who rostered at least 7 QBs. Of those, exactly one has survived through week 7. Entry #104024 has 8 QBs on their roster and survived quite comfortably this week, thank you very much.

RBs: We lost two more 10-RB teams this week, but 6 of the original 12 are still alive. That’s an impressive 50% survival rate compared to 29.9% overall.

WRs: No change: Entry #105705, with 14 WRs, is still alive.

TEs: No change: Walts Froze Head (#105214), the last 7-TE team standing, made it through another week..

PKs: No change: Entry #109683, the last 7-K team standing, made it through another week.

DEFs: Five out of the 15 teams with 6 defenses are still alive. That’s a better survival rate than for the contest as a whole.

And now the players:

Eliminated Players: A veritable bloodbath this week, as for the first time more than one player became homeless, with no living owners remaining. Melvin Gordon and Caleb Shudak became the 4th and 5th zombie players this year. Trey Lance, Robbie Gould and Tyquan Thornton look to be next: they’re each rostered on just one living team.

The Biggest Mistake: Tee Higgins is on almost 200 rosters, only 12% of which are still alive. That’s pretty brutal. Cam Akers is on over 500 rosters and has a 15.7% survival rate. J.K. Dobbins, on over 1000 rosters, has a survival rate of 20.7% and frankly I’m amazed it’s that high.

The Survivor: Four players still have a survival rate over 50%, and we’ve talked about all of them here. Puka Nacua (53.7%), Christian McCaffrey (51.0%), Kyren Williams (50.9%) and Tyreek Hill (50.2%). I’m a Tyreek man, myself.

The Bargain: Nacua, Nacua, Nacua.

The Parasite: There are four “players” (I use that term loosely) who haven’t scored a single point and yet still have survival rates greater than the overall rate. They are Taylor Heinicke (37.5%), Elliott Fry (36.4%), Leonard Fournette (34.5%), and Corey Davis (30.8%). I assume they’re good in the clubhouse and make their teammates better just by being there.

The Martyr: Russell Wilson has scored the 9th-most points and yet his rosterers only have a 25.8% survival rate. Yeah, there were a couple mediocre outings in there but I can’t help feeling he deserves better. In the non-QB category, I’m looking at Ja’Marr Chase. Yeah, he started off pretty slow, but 22.9% survival? That seems a little harsh.

Rough Week: https://www.footballguys.com/contests/subscribers/roster/107683/week/7 would have survived if Deshaun Watson hadn't played. Doh! [correction: did survive, see comments below]

Close Call: https://www.footballguys.com/contests/subscribers/roster/106533/week/7 survived by 0.55 courtesy of Cousin's last pass of the MNF game. Phew!

Heartbreaker: https://www.footballguys.com/contests/subscribers/roster/104114/week/7 and https://www.footballguys.com/contests/subscribers/roster/105574/week/7 both edged just above the cutline on Purdy's 11 yard pass with 45 seconds to go (!) on MNF. 12 seconds later, both were eliminated by Purdy's deep INT. Ouch! :(

Faceplants: Four roosters had been averaging better than 170 points but failed to even break 100 this week. 106253 fell primarily to injuries, 105092 had injuries and underperformance, 109889 poor bye-week planning, and 104502 a bit of all of the above.

Luck Ran Out: Rooster 100393 had survived the cut by an average of 6.17 points the first 6 weeks, but finally fell victim missing the cut by just 2.05 this week.

Playing With Fire: Rooster 104085 (FBG Chaka) has survived the cut by an average of 10.25 through 7 weeks. There are 13 teams still alive who've had a prior week when they were exactly at the cut line.

Most improved: Rooster 109920 (Gulley) who survived the first 2 weeks just 1.45 and 2.6 points above the cutline, and then was exactly at the cutline in week 4. They've shown strength in weeks 5 and 7 though, clearing the line by 40+ points both times. Rooster 100394 has gone from an average of 147.7 (weeks 1-4) to an average of 200.5 (weeks 5-7).

2nd week in a row where no ties this week affected the UNOFFICIAL cut after each week (barring future ties):

10% Week 1 Cut to Number – 8971
10% Week 2 cut to Number – 8077
10% Week 3 cut to Number – 7271
20% Week 4 cut to Number – 5817
20% Week 5 cut to Number – 4657
20% Week 6 cut to Number – 3726
20% Week 7 cut to Number – 2981

30% Week 11 cut to Number – 717
30% Week 12 cut to Number – 502
40% Week 13 cut to Number – 302
40% Week 14 cut to Number – 182 (means the top 43 non-playoff teams this week win a prize)

From Contest Rules: * - if fewer than 225 participants remain after week 14, then prizes will be awarded to eliminated participants according to highest score in week 14. If prizes are still unawarded after that, then highest score in week 13, and so on.

107683 actually survived - Daniel Jones and his 0 counts but I gather the details page doesn't have that wrinkle. The standings reflect 0.00 not -0.75

Was curious as I figured that would be the case.

Good catch! Yeah I was looking at the total on that page, which is listed as 128.35 and thus below the cutline (with Watson's score highlighted), but you're right that it should (and does) count Jones' (or White's) 0 instead of Watson's -0.75 in the actual standings. Good thing he had at least one non-playing QB on his rooster!

If you ain't first, you're last!
Chip and a Chair....Chip and a Chair.

Maher bites the dust again.
He was K3 (81.2 pts) behind only Hopkins and Elliott, but was too risky for my taste. I considered him the 5th safest cheap kicker, so he was off limits. 174 rosters mourn his release, but maybe he catches on elsewhere.

As a Lamar/Love owner, I just checked to see that 30 of 97 teams are still alive with this combo. Not a rare combo but I’m liking what I did at the QB position in this contest so far. Better than the Cousins/Carr combo last year :bag:

All teams that chose QB Justin Herbert, RB Alvin Kamara, WR Tyreek Hill, TE Darren Waller, and PK Dustin Hopkins are still alive

The same thing can be said for...

Yes, I can elaborate - it's my team!

There may be more, but I found 7 live teams that left at least $3 unspent. WHY???
Crazy...especially if it costs the cash down the road. Do you have an easy way to track these teams?
Sadly, no. Moneywise, the analyzer does not offer search capability between $200 and $250.

Play with the URL :grad:

I am old and all, but why should I play with some guy named Url?

There may be more, but I found 7 live teams that left at least $3 unspent. WHY???
I’d venture to guess that 90% of the entrants put about 5% of the effort into this contest that the folks who visit this thread do.

and that was a horribly formed sentence.

Maybe you put only 5% effort into it?
I’m in this thread, aren’t I? ;)
But, it’s true, while I do put in effort in picking my roster, I don’t put in 1% of what some of you do in this thread with per week analysis. There are trained professionals who can help you with these afflictions.

My joke was about you putting 5% effort into forming your sentence, because you said it was horribly formed. That's why I bolded your text.

Through 7 weeks, the average D has scored 41.8 points (my 3 have combined for 55)

Through 7 weeks, the average K has scored 53.6 points (my 3 have combined for 103.5)

Lol. Of course the bolded texted was collapsed and hidden so I didn’t see it. Let’s work on our Abbott and Costello routine offline and bring it back to the Shark Pool once we’ve dialed it in 😜🤣

My discount D roster (Sea $4, Det $3) has scored 70 points (!) while my "premium" K squad (Elliott $5, Zuerlien $4, Hopkins $3) has netted 126.3 (!!).

Combined, that's ~100 over the average which helps to explain...in addition to the depth of a 22 man roster...why losing Rodgers and Chubb has not killed me yet.

I took 2 K and 2 D for $3 each. My 2 D have combined for 54 and my 2 K have combined for 101.4. So I'm happy with that, just wish I'd spent those savings on someone useful like Nacua.

All teams that chose QB Justin Herbert, RB Alvin Kamara, WR Tyreek Hill, TE Darren Waller, and PK Dustin Hopkins are still alive

Actually all 5 teams that chose QB Justin Herbert, RB Alvin Kamara, WR Tyreek Hill, and TE Darren Waller are still alive, regardless of kickers. Those 5 include both me and you.

Halfway through (week-wise) to the playoffs I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. Status report:
  • McCaffrey is my only player on bye week 9, and then both WRs Hill and Nacua on bye week 10. If I can survive through those (seems reasonable), then my remaining bye week load is pretty modest (I frontloaded it as much as reasonably possible)
  • My WRs have been a mixed bag, but are where I took the most depth and they are carrying me as a group, both in terms of average score by position (see below), but also filling 11 of my 14 flex scores so far (others are 1 RB, 2 TE)
  • My RB2 score should improve now that I actually have 3 of them playing most weeks (and maybe/hopefully contribute some flex scores)
  • K Anders Carlson is the only player yet to score for me
  • WR Isaiah Hodgins is my next weakest link, posting only a 14-point Flex2 slot score back in week 2
  • WR Jahan Dotson has been the biggest disappointment for his cost ($14) so far, posting a mere three Flex2 scores over 7 weeks with a very modest average value of 10.3 each
  • I've had to eat three 0 scores (only 1 was planned, at QB, the other 2 were at RB when both Ekeler was injured and Kamara suspended)
  • FWIW, my "Flex 3" score (if it existed) would be 9.1 per week
  • I have no currently injured players on rooster (having survived Ekeler's 3 weeks of absence early on)
  • Ekeler returning to form and putting up big scores would likely be the differentiating secret weapon that gives me a shot at making the playoffs and doing well. He's low ownership with only 82 teams remaining with Ekeler, and of those I have the 8th highest average score so far. However, all but 2 of the 7 teams ahead of me appear to have backloaded their byes a bit and could be in elimination trouble (weeks 9/10/13 in particular), so based on that sample I expect we'll still see a notable drop in the Ekeler teams overall (even if he does better on an individual basis going forward)
  • Ja'Marr Chase moving from "OK" to "stud form" on a more frequent basis would also be appreciated
  • Nacua for MVP, obvi... started the contest on 9% of all roosters and is currently on 16% of remaining roosters

Jahan Dotson is the most widely owned player not on the above ownership rate lists by a good margin... he's at 31.2% ownership, somehow slightly UP from the 29.9% he started the contest with despite his sub-par performance for his price.

The next 3 are Cameron Dicker (slightly down from 24.2% to 23.6% now), Calvin Ridley (slightly down from 25.6% to 23.5% now), and Khalil Herbert (slightly up from 20.2% to 21.7% now, but expect that will be migrating downward until he's back from IR)

I find cases like Dotson interesting but it makes some sense if you figure roosters where the owner is paying more attention will have more representation of certain players that were seen as shark moves before the season.

Too much work but I wonder how the distribution of players among roosters by size of rooster would look over time.
