2023 FBG Subscriber Contest (1 Viewer)

I went through the entire thread searching for posted rosters, and here are the folks I found:

@ZWK @SeniorVBDStudent @Drunken Cowboy @tjolitz58 @Galileo @Winning IS Everything @steelerfan1 @Irelad @fightingillini @Birdie048 @opensourcebeer @ClownDogs @Bill Dauterive @Grid71 @Ackme @Payne @BroncosFan07 @Stray Doug @rzrback77 @maxwell1295 @TheWinz @HairySasquatch @bamabuddha @Titans_fan @barackdhouse @rustycolts @Dacomish @joey @Deamon @Angry Beavers @-OZ- @msudaisy26 @scottybo @themeanmachine @MikesVikes @a_troll00 @(HULK)

I assume a handful of you have changed since you posted (me included), so don't forget to post your new roster before midnight tonight (EST) if you want in on Joe's extra $100 contest.

I'm still doing last minute tweaks on my roster. It will be posted before the deadline Monday night.

It will be interesting to see the total number of entries in the Subscriber Contest this year. Doing the math on the cut-downs each week, it will take approximately 12,450 total entries in order for 225 teams to make the finals.

But Joe's offer specifies that in order to qualify for the $100 bonus, you need to finish in the top 250 (not the top 225). So note that you don't necessarily need to make the finals in order to have a shot at the extra $100. If you barely miss the finals, you might still have a shot at the $100 in the side bet.

Good luck everyone ‼️

With 14 hours to go, this will probably change 10 or 12 times, but for now:

QB - Patrick Mahomes - KC/10 - $25
QB - Kenny Pickett - PIT/6 - $10
RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/5 - $30
RB - Dameon Pierce - HOU/7 - $21
RB - Alvin Kamara - NO/11 - $15

PK - Ka'imi Fairbairn - HOU/7 - $3
TD - Los Angeles Chargers - LAC/5 - $3
TD - Carolina Panthers - CAR/7 - $3

Here is my squad, 24 players. Not sure I love it, lol, but this is it.

I like the chargers to bounce back so Herbert was locked in from the start. I like Carr for some reason, lol. T. Pollard and J. Cook have been in my lineup since the beginning. The rest of the RBs could be huge if things shake out a certain way. I like the WRs although I skipped a sure-fire stud. I like the TEs and went with I. Likely to bypass the decision on which BAL WR to grab. I used to go 3 $3 PK but didn't feel comfortable so "upgraded" to 2 $4 PK + 1 $3 PK. I always go with 3 $3 TD.

QB - Justin Herbert - LAC/5 - $21
QB - Derek Carr - NO/11 - $11
RB - Tony Pollard - DAL/7 - $29
RB - James Cook - BUF/13 - $18
RB - Jaylen Warren - PIT/6 - $11
RB - Elijah Mitchell - SF/9 - $10
RB - Ezekiel Elliott - NE/11 - $7
RB - Kyren Williams - LAR/10 - $4
WR - Keenan Allen - LAC/5 - $21
WR - Diontae Johnson - PIT/6 - $18
WR - Brandin Cooks - DAL/7 - $14
WR - Jahan Dotson - WAS/14 - $14
WR - Adam Thielen - CAR/7 - $11
WR - Joshua Palmer - LAC/5 - $6
TE - Evan Engram - JAX/9 - $15
TE - Juwan Johnson - NO/11 - $9
TE - Jake Ferguson - DAL/7 - $6
TE - Isaiah Likely - BAL/13 - $5
PK - Riley Patterson - DET/9 - $4
PK - Chris Boswell - PIT/6 - $4
PK - Cairo Santos - CHI/13 - $3
TD - Detroit Lions - DET/9 - $3
TD - Los Angeles Chargers - LAC/5 - $3
TD - Carolina Panthers - CAR/7 - $3

Haven't Changed mine since I tagged you in in, don't expect to change barring any new injury news before midnight.

I don't like it. My smallest rooster ever. Last major move was moving off Cook and his week 13 bye and 3 defenses for Gainwell and Sutton. Rolling the dice that Kamara can be a decent RB2. Pricing between positions is whacked up. Sutton at $12 is projected for 178 ($12 Meyers 168, $14 Cook 188 to show I'm not cherry picking), James Cook at $18 projects to 174 ($18 Swift and Pacheco in the 150-160 range). Accordingly I allocated $70 to RB and $100 to WR hoping to fill the flex scores there. Always feel thin at RB, but the math says that's not the position to spend. The move before that was dumping Aiyuk/Hopkins/Kincaid/4th kicker for Chase and Waller. @ZWK comments about stacks prompted that but I'm not liking having to cut Hopkins.

QB - Joe Burrow - CIN/7 - $21
QB - Tua Tagovailoa - MIA/10 - $14

Burrow undervalued with this scoring. Tua is a risk, but I love his schedule and potential for big weeks. Not a fan of rostering junk $8-$10 QBs to have a 3rd that should be on your bench.

RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/5 - $30
RB - Alvin Kamara - NO/11 - $15
RB - Elijah Mitchell - SF/9 - $10
RB - Kenneth Gainwell - PHI/10 - $8
RB - Ezekiel Elliott - NE/11 - $7

Need Chubb to be a top 3 RB to justify this expense. Seems like a lot of people like this pick. After that it's thin. Only 10% cut int he first three weeks so I felt OK with Kamara. Gainwell and Elliot to at least avoid a weekly donut at RB2 and Mitchell is the home run shot.

WR - Ja'Marr Chase - CIN/7 - $36
WR - Tyreek Hill - MIA/10 - $33
WR - Courtland Sutton - DEN/9 - $12
WR - Romeo Doubs - GB/6 - $9
WR - Isaiah Hodgins - NYG/13 - $6
WR - Kendrick Bourne - NE/11 - $4

Started with 9 cheaper WRs and eventually studded up to 5. Didn't feel comfortable with my flex during bye weeks so I ended up with 6. Chase and Hill take care of the weekly requirements. The 4 after that are picks that I feel could potentially be their team's WR1 this year. Expecting my two flex scores from this group.

TE - Darren Waller - NYG/13 - $17
TE - Luke Musgrave - GB/6 - $6
TE - Jake Ferguson - DAL/7 - $6

Yuck. Buying in on Waller being all that. Like a bunch of other TEs better than Musgrave and Ferguson, problem is all the good options are off week 13 with Waller or conflicted elsewhere. I'm toast if Waller gets hurt.

PK - Cameron Dicker - LAC/5 - $4
PK - Anders Carlson - GB/6 - $3
PK - Cairo Santos - CHI/13 - $3

Got three

TD - Detroit Lions - DET/9 - $3
TD - Los Angeles Chargers - LAC/5 - $3

Only roostering two feels wrong. Been reading this thread and it seems to make sense to punt defense due to the scoring.

Great.

Post your final lineup here by Monday night 9/4 at 11:59 PM ET. And if that exact lineup finishes in the top 250 spots, I'll throw in an additional $100 on top of whatever prize you win.

I need one of you folks to volunteer to be judge on this and let me know who wins and who I need to pay.
Thanks Joe!!

In before the deadline...

QB - Patrick Mahomes - KC/10 - $25

I said I would post some stats about K & D scoring. My excel sheets for last year (2022) went funky after week 5, but until then:
- If you add up all 32 kickers that were offered, they averaged 7.38 pts per week. If you remove Zane Gonzalez and Ryan Santoso (the 2 kickers that were jobless when the contest closed), that number goes up to 7.87 pts per week. 22 kickers had double-digit weeks within the first 3 weeks.
- If you add up all 32 defenses that were offered, they averaged 5.79 pts per week. The highest scoring D was SF with 47 points. 10 kickers had outscored them after 5 weeks.

2021
- 4 kickers were obvious fades (Fairbairn and Lutz started on IR, McCann was a FA, Parkey was a placeholder). That left 29 options, and they averaged 7.31 points per week. 24 kickers scored over 100 points.
- If you add up all 32 defenses that were offered, they averaged 5.43 pts per week. 9 defenses scored over 100 points.

2020
- Amazingly, FBG made it easy to avoid a handful of kickers. Of the 32 offered, 7 were either cut or injured before the contest closed. Of the 25 remaining, they averaged 7.36 points per week.
- If you add up all 32 defenses that were offered, they averaged 5.33 points per week.

My updated team, may do one more time, but just in case I do not....

QB - Trevor Lawrence - JAX/9 - $19
QB - Sam Howell - WAS/14 - $8
RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/5 - $30
RB - James Cook - BUF/13 - $18
RB - Alvin Kamara - NO/11 - $15
RB - Jaylen Warren - PIT/6 - $11
RB - Raheem Mostert - MIA/10 - $10
RB - Ezekiel Elliott - NE/11 - $7
WR - Garrett Wilson - NYJ/7 - $29
WR - Calvin Ridley - JAX/9 - $21
WR - Gabe Davis - BUF/13 - $12
WR - Zay Flowers - BAL/13 - $10
WR - Marvin Mims Jr. - DEN/9 - $8
WR - Tank Dell - HOU/7 - $3

TE - Darren Waller - NYG/13 - $17
TE - Sam LaPorta - DET/9 - $9
TE - Luke Musgrave - GB/6 - $6

TD - Jacksonville Jaguars - JAX/9 - $4

Love the write up as well. I am heading home from a road trip and finalizing my team now. I will steal your idea and post mine shortly.

If you're only going with two kickers, you might at least want two that are actually on active rosters. Just sayin'...

QB - Justin Herbert - LAC/5 - $21
QB - Kenny Pickett - PIT/6 - $10

After looking over other entries and posts I decided to go with one stud QB and one with potential. It also helps that they have early byes.

RB - Bijan Robinson - ATL/11 - $33
RB - Joe Mixon - CIN/7 - $24
RB - Jaylen Warren - PIT/6 - $11
RB - Tank Bigsby - JAX/9 - $9
RB - Kenneth Gainwell - PHI/10 - $8

Love Bijan and he has rarely left my lineup since the start. I don't love Mixon, but the early bye and the usage is awesome. I really considered going 4 RB with Cook or Swift and one of my 3 lotto tickets.

WR - Deebo Samuel - SF/9 - $19
WR - Chris Godwin - TB/5 - $19
WR - Mike Williams - LAC/5 - $17
WR - Skyy Moore - KC/10 - $12
WR - Adam Thielen - CAR/7 - $11
WR - Isaiah Hodgins - NYG/13 - $6

Deebo had the highest target percentage with everyone healthy and Purdy at QB. Rumors of Evans being traded and Mayfield loving slot receivers made Godwin a no brainer, I had to pair my elite QB with a pass catcher, I am hoping Moore is a more explosive version of Juju this year, Theilen should give me a decent floor week to week and Hodgins was a top 15 wr for the last few weeks last year.

TE - Juwan Johnson - NO/11 - $9
TE - Sam LaPorta - DET/9 - $9
TE - Cade Otton - TB/5 - $6
TE - Jake Ferguson - DAL/7 - $6

Every year a tight drafted outside the top 14ish finishes top 6. I wanted as many dart throws as I could here. Johnson has been Carr's favorite target according to reports and seems to have a knack for the end zone. La Porta could have a huge role, the Lions don't have a ton of wide receiver depth if teams focus on ARSB, Otton could get the second most targets on that team if Evans or Godwin get injured or traded and Dallas just seems to produce good fantasy tight ends.

PK - Brandon McManus - JAX/9 - $4
PK - Jason Sanders - MIA/10 - $4
PK - Dustin Hopkins - CLE/5 - $3

Absolutely hate the 3 dollar kickers this year, I had two kickers for a long time before grabbing a third.

TD - Detroit Lions - DET/9 - $3
TD - Los Angeles Chargers - LAC/5 - $3
TD - Houston Texans - HOU/7 - $3

On paper the Chargers should have a top 5 defense. The Lions were a very good defense the last 8 weeks of the year last year and because this scoring system doesn't penalize giving up points I thought maybe the Texans could be a sneaky play since they will be on the field a lot.

I may change from Herbert and Williams to Lawrence and Ridley but I have to figure out how to find 2 more dollars.

I may make one change and bump Ferguson to Johnson at TE at the expense of a kicker. Thoughts?
There are a lot of receptions up for grabs in NO...but how will they be shared between Kamara, Thomas, Johnson and others? I started out with multiple Saints on early rosters and for whatever reason they all faded away. I do think Johnson has much more upside if that helps.

Yep - can't load the site at all. Worse than that, draft dominator stuck at loading screen. Fortunately I don't draft until tomorrow but would be super frustrated if it was tonight.

I had Ridley for a long time...and "everyone" is projecting the Jaguars to do great things.

But ask yourself...do I really want to swap out the Chargers offense for the Jaguars offense?

This, of course, is a stuck in the mud perspective but even so...

I may make one change and bump Ferguson to Johnson at TE at the expense of a kicker. Thoughts?

I'm in the same boat. Initially, there were several saints on my roster, but they all faded away.

Likely changing a few more times before midnight. Just wanted to post in case I space out.

QB - Patrick Mahomes - KC/10 - $25
QB - Sam Howell - WAS/14 - $8

One stud/one dud at QB, but I refuse to spend more at the position. Live and die with Mahomie. I think a large bulk of entries will be built this way at QB. I prefer Howell over Love, so I saved a buck (keep reading to see where I spent it).

RB - Joe Mixon - CIN/7 - $24
RB - Alexander Mattison - MIN/13 - $21
RB - Javonte Williams - DEN/9 - $19
RB - Alvin Kamara - NO/11 - $15
RB - Ezekiel Elliott - NE/11 - $7

Mixon is the 15th highest priced RB, so he should return value if he finishes higher than RB15, which he's done 4 of the last 5 seasons (the only one he didn't was 2020 when he played 6 games, but he was RB8 when he went out). He has crossed the 1500-touch plateau, but hey, he's still 600 touches behind one of my other guys! Mattison seems to be loved or hated at his price. He is built for a full load, and I don't think Ty Chandler is a huge threat. Javonte is priced as RB23, but he was RB18 while in a full timeshare with old man Gordon. That won't be the case with Perine. On a PPR per game basis, there aren't many who can compete with Kamara. I am willing to keep him on ice for 3 weeks to reap the benefits. Perhaps Zeke can have a few double-digit games.

WR - Calvin Ridley - JAX/9 - $21
WR - Tyler Lockett - SEA/5 - $19
WR - DeAndre Hopkins - TEN/7 - $19
WR - Drake London - ATL/11 - $18
WR - Van Jefferson - LAR/10 - $8
WR - Parris Campbell - NYG/13 - $4

None of the highest priced studs, but 4 guys that are capable of low-end WR1 stats. I considered packaging Zeke, Jefferson, and Campbell and getting another guy like Goedert, but I think I prefer the depth. Also, Van Jefferson screams value with Kupp ailing. I know many prefer Hodgins/Hyatt over Parris Campbell, but a recent article swayed me. I would love to roster Jahan Dotson to stack with Howell, but just couldn't find the required dough.

TE - Darren Waller - NYG/13 - $17
TE - Luke Musgrave - GB/6 - $6
TE - Jake Ferguson - DAL/7 - $6

I usually like to roster at least 2 strong TE's, but had to sacrifice for what little depth I actually have. Waller will be a target hog as the team's best receiver. I also looked at Cade Otton from the $6 bunch.

PK - Cameron Dicker - LAC/5 - $4
PK - Cairo Santos - CHI/13 - $3

There were only 2 kickers for $3 that I trusted (Santos & Fairbairn), but I ended up with an extra dollar. I used that buck to upgrade to my homer pick - Dicker the kicker.

TD - Atlanta Falcons - ATL/11 - $3
TD - Carolina Panthers - CAR/7 - $3

Defenses in this contest are all about sacks and INT's. With this duo, you will face a slew of young QB's.

Changed again...

A bit different from my usual . I guess 25 is less than recent years but still sorta in my range.
This is a bit more "swing for the fences" decided not to nibble around the edges with my Bengals but they are on the big 6-team bye so I'm hoping that takes some edge off the risk.

Nervous a little about the double-stack of TE at week 13 but really didn't want to let either of the top 2 go.

My last iteration was similar QB RB K D. I'm on the fence about Walker III as RB2. But this build needs a RB with a week 5 or 6 bye.

There are a lot of receptions up for grabs in NO...but how will they be shared between Kamara, Thomas, Johnson and others? I started out with multiple Saints on early rosters and for whatever reason they all faded away. I do think Johnson has much more upside if that helps.
The Saints schedule might be the easiest on paper. Carr was on my DND list after last season but he might lure me back in. Lots of teams posted above have shares of Carr.

Some random notes ON AN ENTRY THAT I LATER REPLACED...

I didn't love the 3-dollar kickers either, there was a late budget cut that put Carlson on my team. But his brother is still in the league so maybe he'll work out for the Packers. And I think the draft capital gives him some security. I really don't love having Fairbairn - I constantly tried to replace him with him falling on my Burrow/Chase bye week. But Santos is the one credible option and he falls on my scary top 2 TE bye and I really prefer not to go one more guy shy there. Cleveland traded draft capital for Hopkins who has been decent in the league and they should move the ball so he was the 3rd guy. Carlson replaced Jason Sanders. Defenses I mean I spread the byes and tried to balance against the overall situation. When I needed a buck the Rams replaced the Broncos.

I want Joey B, gotta homer have him and really the price vs what he can do is worth it. I bounced around between Howell and Love and even Derek Carr (!) for a minute there but ended up back with Howell - I mean watching preseason shouldn't really bias me but he looked versus my Bengal backups and the fact that he can scramble and didn't have a crushing opponent on Burrow's bye (Giants) was good enough for me.

Feels nutty to go McCaffrey but really no reason he can't be putting huge numbers in fully integrated into that offense and looking down the line at price vs value I felt most comfortable with him (which is crazy because Shanahan loves to have like the waterboy come in and vulture 3 touchdowns in a game and stuff). Walker was kinda the early bye and I took the dollars out of Pierce. I probably will curse having done this later but maybe he'll be out of favor and turn into a monster. Herbert is gonna be on a lot of roosters. Bigsby - I dunno but he should see the field enough that he could matte. I was gonna go super cheap with #5 - was thinking my Bengal Chris Evans or maybe Spiller - I looked back at Perine's numbers and it probably would be worth it for another $3 guy but Gainwell seems more likely to get more time in Philly and Philly loves to be random with their RB stuff which I hope means a handful of games that are worth it for him. I also think if Mixon ever sits that Brown will see the carries, not Evans so it kinda limits 'em both. Maybe I but Evans back in before the clock strikes midnight I dunno.

I went from minor league stacking with Burrow (like Evans and Irv Smith who I do like) and then I though well maybe I wanna be more serious and do Higgins and then I flipped back and was on Olave who I really like and it really boiled down to deciding to swing for the fences and biting the dollars bullet and roostering Chase. All the savings came by reducing player prices - not quantity (have basically had 25 all the way). After him it's question mark city. Skyy, Doubs, Pierce, Reynolds, Nacua, Shenault, Slayton - this probably will do my team in I really need a couple to hit. Maybe I chicken out and do I dunno Waddle and McLaurin instead. But chase is such a category killer. I just dunno.

I love Waller - I took 3 promising young tight ends. I'll probably regret that too.

So there ya go - until I change it.

I'm with you on Burrow. It was either him or Mahomes. Burrow + CMac have been locked in for a while now.

Alright, this one's got loser written all over it. Let's lock it in...
Well, crap. I tinkered again. This one is locked in for real.

QB - Justin Herbert - LAC/5 - $21
QB - Jordan Love - GB/6 - $9
RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/5 - $30
RB - Joe Mixon - CIN/7 - $24
RB - Alvin Kamara - NO/11 - $15
RB - Tank Bigsby - JAX/9 - $9
RB - Ezekiel Elliott - NE/11 - $7
WR - Amon-Ra St. Brown - DET/9 - $30
WR - Garrett Wilson - NYJ/7 - $29
WR - George Pickens - PIT/6 - $15
WR - Elijah Moore - CLE/5 - $11
WR - Romeo Doubs - GB/6 - $9
TE - Darren Waller - NYG/13 - $17
TE - Sam LaPorta - DET/9 - $9
PK - Dustin Hopkins - CLE/5 - $3
PK - Cairo Santos - CHI/13 - $3
PK - Ka'imi Fairbairn - HOU/7 - $3
TD - Chicago Bears - CHI/13 - $3
TD - Detroit Lions - DET/9 - $3

Don't see myself changing at this point, so I'll do the analysis thing, too:

QB - Patrick Mahomes - KC/10 - $25
QB - Kenny Pickett - PIT/6 - $10

2 QBs definitely makes me nervous, but there's a huge difference between what the big 3 will score and what 2nd or 3rd tier guys will score, so I decided I wanted one of them. Allen almost carried me to the finals last year, but that Week 13 bye was too much to risk. Spending big bucks on Mahomes meant only one backup, so I went homer on Pickett who I think is vastly under-rated. With all the targets he has, he'll score some points (hopefully when I need them). Waffled on him or Love, but as fate would have it, they play each other on Mahomes's bye week and I'd rather have Kenny v. the GB defense than Love v. Pgh.

RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/5 - $30
RB - Dameon Pierce - HOU/7 - $21
RB - Alvin Kamara - NO/11 - $15
RB - Khalil Herbert - CHI/13 - $13
RB - Kyren Williamsz - LAR/10 - $4

Chubb is the best priced top RB, and Pierce and Kamara seemed like bargains. I bounced back and forth between Herbert, Warren and Tank at that 4th RB. I finally decided that Herbert's down side is he might get pushed into a committee. Meanwhile, I'd be hoping that Warren or Tank could push their way into a committee situation. Why not go with the guy being chased than those doing the chasing? Besides, with Kamara missing the first 3 weeks, it's nice to have the early coverage from Herbert. If Herbert loses carries later, Kamara will be there. Williams seemed like a good dart throw. Five different bye weeks means 4 active all the time.

WR - Calvin Ridley - JAX/9 - $21
WR - Drake London - ATL/11 - $18
WR - Diontae Johnson - PIT/6 - $18
WR - Jahan Dotson - WAS/14 - $14
WR - Zay Flowers - BAL/13 - $10
WR - Michael Wilson - ARI/14 - $3

Tried to pretty much go with guys who have a good chance to outproduce their prices. Ridley, London and Johnson all have top 15 potential. Dotson should be a WR2/3 at worst, and may be on the WR2 side consistently if McLaurin's toe issues continue (as us Yinzers know, it was turf toe that ended Jack Lambert's career, so never take it lightly). Five different bye weeks, with only my $3 dart throw on bye the same week as Dotson. Extra factor is none of my WRs have the same bye weeks as Chubb and Pierce, so I'll have extra flex coverage on the weeks they're out (similarly, none of my top 4 RBs share byes with any of my top 4 WRs, so I'll have extra RB flexes available on the weeks my WRs are down).

TE - Dalton Kincaid - BUF/13 - $10
TE - Sam LaPorta - DET/9 - $9
TE - Luke Musgrave - GB/6 - $6
TE - Jake Ferguson - DAL/7 - $6

I've ALWAYS been a stud TE guy in the contest (last year I had Hockenson, Goedert and Schultz} but I got priced out of those guys this year and decided to try the young guns shotgun approach. I briefly had Waller in there, but decided to go with Kincaid and LaPorta for almost the same cost. None of these guys are going to outscore Kelce, but they have enough potential that one of them could keep me close most weeks. Since their total cost is less than Kelce, it freed up money for RBs and WRs.

PK - Cameron Dicker - LAC/5 - $4
PK - Brandon McManus - JAX/9 - $4
PK - Ka'imi Fairbairn - HOU/7 - $3

Like eveeryone else, I hated the $3 kickers this year. Most of my teams had 3 $4 guys, but I needed $4 to upgrade from Tank to Herbert, so I cut a D and dropped down to Fairbairn.

TD - Los Angeles Chargers - LAC/5 - $3
TD - Carolina Panthers - CAR/7 - $3

I usually go with 3, but money was just too tight this year, so went with two decent D's with early byes. FWIW, Draft Dominator says there's little or no difference between projected points for any of the $3, $4 and most of the $5 Ds, so there's no reason to go higher unless you want to spring for $6 teams.
