2024-25 NBA Thread: Kevin Love fulfillls destiny by being traded to Utah (25 Viewers)

will any of these achillies guys be the same when they do finally come back or what kd came back ok but who else do we have for comparison take that to the bank brohans
I think the only one that has a chance to be “the same” might be Tatum. I think he’s a guy that uses his size, body control, strength, length for his effectiveness. I think he can do a lot of those things very well even with a knock to his speed and explosiveness. I am not as optimistic on Lillard or Halliburton. Lillard is a shorter player that uses his range as a way of creating space. I think an injury that hurts his speed and allows defenders to stay up closer on him will be tough. He doesn’t have the height or length to shoot up and over people like guys like Durant and Tatum have. I also think that Halliburton is a guy that relies on speed, and while he has range—he looks to me to have a slower and lower release. Also, a lot of his three’s are a result of herky/jerky motions and dribble moves that I think an Achilles tear could make harder to accomplish. Don’t get me wrong—I think Hali and Dame could very well come back to be solid players—but I just don’t know if they will come back to be “the same”.

Man it fell apart quickly for Indiana. Damn.
Exactly what I was thinking. I mean, they performed pretty well as a team when Haliburton was out. In the wide-open East, why wouldn't they just try to find a shorter-term answer to plug in for Hali and make another run at it? Guess this is why I'm not an NBA GM and just an armchair QB at best.

The Milwaukee Bucks trade Pat Connaughton and two second-round picks six and seven years from now to the Charlotte Hornets for Vasilije Micic. Micic will do a contract buyout and go play in Europe. This is the modern-era NBA.

Happy for Dame. He can pick where he wants to go and when AND play for a minimum deal since he's guaranteed the money the Bucks owe him for the next 5 years.

No secret that he was miserable in Milwaukee and missed his kids terribly. Now he can be with them as he rehabs and find some happiness again on the West Coast. The epitome of a west coast guy it was a bad fit for him culturally and exiting a divorce without his kids around to buffer the pain, he was dealing with the sort of sorrow and depression that can be debilitating.

Better days ahead Dame. Hope to see you again at BWW Tualatin soon.

Nuggets having a nice offseason so far. Trading Saric (and not sure what else) to the Kings for Valanciunas.
I guess the “what else” is just cap savings for Sacramento so they can sign Schroeder.
Fantastic deal for the Nuggets. Another nonsense deal for the Kings.
Nuggets are low-key having a nice offseason. While I am of the belief that Porter Jr. is not the horrid player that many make him out to be—I think that Cam Johnson is such a great player to fill in his loss. Solid defender, also a great three point shooter, solid length—all for a pretty nice discount versus what Porter was making. I would like to see Porter Jr. showcase his talents and play well in Brooklyn. I could see a drop in his efficiency as he won’t have the luxury of playing alongside Joker, Murray or Gordon—but I do think he’s capable of putting up some big stat lines.

I think Dame is cooked, but Haliburton and Tatum ate still young and can comeback and be all nba players. I think it is 2027/28 season before we see it.
is there a track record of guys returning to their previous levels after an achilles injury?

asking because i don't know/can't think of any but achilles injury recovery hasn't been on my mind these last... decades

The only two are Dominique Wilkins and Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant is one of the best shooters of all time from anywhere on the court while being built like a daddy long legs. Wilkins completely changed his game to adapt to being a diminished athlete and became one of the best mid range scorers in the NBA. Dame will still be an NBA player because of his shooting but he'll be one of the most flammable defenders in the league - I would consider him to be more of a supercharged 6th man that closes some games depending on offense/defense need. I would be surprised if Tatum and Haliburton are anywhere close to what they were before - Tatum has more of a chance as he's fairly big.

I'll be shocked if Dame is not in Miami next. ...assuming his recovery is coming along fine.
I won't be. My understanding is that Lillard has a relatively contentious, ongoing court case in Portland regarding parenting time of his children. The records are sealed so we can't see the pleadings, but assuming Oregon laws are like my jurisdiction's, it likely behooves him to be a Portland resident for the foreseeable future.

With the trade of Cam - Updated tally from the Nets KD/Phx trade - obviously nice to have picks and need to hit on them but at least they have a stockpile to take more swings or trade.

Nets recd:

Michael Porter
Egor Denim
Nolan Traore
Danny Wolf
Ben Saraf
Noah Clowney
Zaire Williams
2026 unprotected Nets 1st rder (traded Phx pick for it back)
2027 unprotected NY Knicks 1st rder
2028 unprotected swap rights with NYK 1st rder
2028 unprotected Best of Suns/Phi/Dallas 1st rder
2029 unprotected NYK 1st rder
2031 unprotected NYK 1st rder
2032 unprotected Denver 1st rder
5 second rd picks.

I am really feeling good about this off-season for the Nugs. Just checking every box on my wish list.

All the fools on social media just going on and on about how Denver got fleeced in the MPJ trade are just driving me crazy. Denver has a window to get this done. Who cares about 2032.
And now the Nuggets just added Tim Hardaway Jr for a 1 year minimum deal. Great add to their depth.

Can't he be a resident of Portland and also play for Miami? I don’t think he changed his residency to Wisconsin but I could be wrong.

That is a hell of a signing for the minimum. The Nuggets are creating what is essentially my idea of a perfect off-season. The only thing they are missing is a legit backup PG, which they have a roster spot and a need for still. Like JV, they only really need somebody for the regular season so there are a handful of cheap options out there still.

Chris Paul? Denver will put him closer to LA.

Paper runner ups, imo

What are the Pistons odds to miss the playoffs the next year? If they are plus odds you should pull the trigger. Lost three very key pieces to the playoffs run, signed a very oft injured Lavert for more money then the other players got on an AAV. While teams that finished under them like the Hawks, Magic got a lot better and the 76ers, Raptors should be better.

With Duncan Robinson making 3/48, I'm sure they are bound for a deep playoff run each of the next 3 seasons.

I would rather they pull a random fan from the stands and give them a 200k game check to ride the bench for the next three years.

I think they decided if they weren't going to compete for a title, that wanted to skate the luxury tax this year and probably the next as well. Still sucks for them. And I don't think there's much of a chance Haliburton comes near his level this year in 26-27, so you're really betting Turner plays at this level as a 32 year old. I think I pass there as well. May as well get the late lottery picks since these next two years and get a C on the rest of the core's timeline.

Teams have been doing deals like this for decades in order to save money.

Agreed. I'd rate the West something like this:

1. OKC

2. DEN
3. HOU

4. MINN

5. LAL
6. GS

I think the Clippers should be in the tier with the Lakers and Warriors.

Maybe even the Mavs too. The West is stupid loaded.

If what's going on in his case is what I suspect, he's going to want to be physically near his children as much as possible.

I grouped them with the tertiary teams because of Harden come playoff time.

If we maintain health, watch out! I think we'll start slow while the coaches figure out the rotation and the rookies are acclimating, but come March the Wemby year-3 experience will be in full bloom. It still amazes me the good fortune shining down on the Spurs. Unbelievable.

We really just signed Duncan Robinson for 3 at 48. Wtf.
Good god. After such a promising season, they sure are doing a wonderful job at having a disappointing offseason.

Yeah, I don't get that signing at all. Feel for you MSU

It honestly feels like we are the smartest guys in the room, because they made some low-key moves last season with great results, but if they were honest with themselves it was all Cade becoming an all NBA guy. Hardaway, Harris, Beasley, and Schroder don't have their years without Cade taking all the attention.

So fresh off his mega-extension, JJJ just suffered a turf toe injury playing pickup. He’ll need surgery - no timetable announced.

I guess for him his timing could have been much worse (hoping he signed that contract).
