2024-25 NBA Thread: Kevin Love fulfillls destiny by being traded to Utah (16 Viewers)

Some of the details in this Malik Beasley story are nuts with the money issues he was having.

man, this stinks

“It is very common for professional athletes to go to third-party lenders and get advances on contracts. It’s a part of the business of professional sports,” Haney told The News. “Many of these lenders are predatory and charge extremely high interest rates and outrageous fees that border on usury.”

His dentist charges $35K? WTF?

Porcelain veneers is my guess. I see a lot more people walking around with the whitest teeth but their mouths look like horses.
Apparently owed his barbershop over 26K as well though

We really just signed Duncan Robinson for 3 at 48. Wtf.
Only 1 year guaranteed. I think it's a fine deal
Weird that Robinson would opt out of $20m this year to take a partially guaranteed deal.
Was it a mutual option or something? Miami could have done an early termination if he opted in? I thought I read that but can’t find it now. Also, there are some partial guarantees on the second and third years on this new contract. Bottom line, I think he ends up with more guaranteed money with this new contract.

Makes sense - thanks.

The last deal was $10m guaranteed and I doubt he was going to get any more than the baby mid-level (~$6m) if he signed somewhere else outright. Probably about a wash for this season, but as @Juxtatarot said, there are some sort of guarantees in year two that haven't been released yet. Even if it is completely a wash, he is going to get a lot more opportunity with the Pistons because they are desperate for shooting with Beasley and THJ gone.

Seems like he's pretty much exactly the same player as Beasley, who they would have happily paid that much to

Not even close, Beasley can defend at an acceptable level. Duncan has never had a season close to what Beasley did last year and that wasn't Beasley's best season. Plus Beasley is 3 years younger. Duncan Robinson is welfare Beasley and we paid more for him. Before the the gambling thing Beasley and the Pistons were on the verge of a 3 year 42 to 45 million dollar contract. They paid more to get worse.

I'm not a fan of anything the Pistons have done this week. I didn't like the LeVert signing. The Robinson contract is fully guaranteed this year and partially guaranteed next year. They were really in a bad spot because of Beasley and had to get someone that could shoot. I think they could have done better. It's so underwhelming.

They panicked after the Beasley thing and it is the worst thing you could do. Gary Trent is better than Duncan Robinson and got like 30 percent of the money, I am not a huge Hardaway fan, but at the league minimum, yes please. Jordan Clarkson would have been cheaper.

predators around every corner, i guess

Stein reporting that Ayton is expected to go to the Lakers when he clears waivers.

Hooray.
Sounds like it is for $8m this year, the remainder of their larger MLE left over after the Laravia signing. They still have the $5m bi-annual exception they can use.

Definitely an upgrade from what they had at 5 after they traded Davis. Ayton isn't perfect but probably best they could do at that spot without giving up future considerations. Prime Kareem wasn't going to be walking through those doors.

Not sure why Pelinka feels the need to give every free agent a player option, though.

Well at least he won't miss a game in LA because of "snow".

I hope the Lakers have fun.

Wow - Jonas Valaciunas is planning to go back to play in Europe. Not sure how this works since he is still under contract.

I’m assuming the Den/Sac trade, which isn’t officially yet, doesn’t happen so. . .
- Does this impact the Schroeder deal for the Kings
- What does Denver do for backup center now?

Hoping I didn’t fall for a fake story again - I’m old that way.

If he’s taking less money in a buyout the Kings are basically getting the same benefit they were getting with the trade.

Good point - he must just really hate Jokic.

What do you think will happen with Kuminga?
I bet he signs a shorter term reasonable deal to stay with the Warriors and they still try to trade him somewhere before the trade deadline.
There are Kings sign and trade rumors going around. I’d pass but they don’t consult me unfortunately.
I hope this doesn't happen. I am a JK fan (not a stan), and would like to see him flourish for GS, and would hate for him to become an all-star for SAC. If they're gonna move him, move him to the East.

I'm pretty confident that this will not happen.

I was thinking a couple-to-a-few years down the line, not this upcoming season.

Or, are you thinking that he'll never be an all-star?

The latter.

I guess the wording was changed from “nearing” a move to “considering” a move so nothing is a done deal yet. Here’s the story and post (some euro basketball site).

Hey guys, I'm considering sleeping with Scarlett Johansson. I'll keep you all posted on updates.
Just let us know when you’re “nearing”.
Probably should warn her when I am as well.

I would hate to be in a foxhole with Stephen A Smith, because the enemy would know exactly our position with that mouth running. No doubt he would be killed by his own men.
