2024 Summer of Soccer - Euro's, Copa America, Olympics, WCQing (2 Viewers)

Makes you wonder why England refuse to try and score until they absolutely have to.

Second game in a row they tie the game late with their very first shot on net

England had another 45 minutes with out a shot on goal and also prevented their opponent from any shots on goal.

Jesus this is horrendous.
I wonder if most neutrals are rooting for Switzerland.....
I am. But I also like to root for countries who haven't had a lot of success because it's just fun rooting for the underdog and see the fans so happy when they win.
Shouldn't you be rooting for England then?

It was just the 4th of July... so, no.

Dad joke fail 😔

If Shaqiri does anything, we'll know for a fact he is half-assing his time in MLS. Because every time I've seen him play, he looks awful. So bad I'm stunned he made their roster.

he already has one of the best goals of the tournament.
Hmmm....missed that.

He has no non-pk goals on the season for Chicago. And his G+A per 90 is 0.12 (this would be pretty good for a fullback). He was regularly in the 0.40 range in the EPL. He's only 32 so think it's pretty clear he's retired.

I've seen him play in Charlotte a couple of times now and thought he looked good

flawless PK's by England.

But a really mediocre game by them again. They keep squeaking by.

At this rate they may only need to play one good game all tournament to win the title.

I know the purists don't love PKs and I get the argument that it's dumb to decide a game by some random skill that's barely a part of it (like if NFL OT was decided by a FG competition), but as a casual fan I love the stress of them and I really dig how "easy" they should be yet the pressure is crazy.

With the above in mind, hard not to credit England for 5 perfect kicks. As this is part of the game, they deserve the win.

I think PKs are fine because if the extra periods are indefinite you could have matches lasting several extra hours which would ruin the winner going forward. However, just to go straight to kicks like the Copa is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.

In the final match, I think it would be cool if they just slugged it out until a winner is crowned.

Agreed. I think the 30 mins extra with a break after 15 mins makes sense. Obviously the risks of injury prevent the games from just being played indefinitely sudden death style.

I just personally really enjoy watching the PK shootout.

Calling it now - Kane won't be fit for the semi-final.

England will win comfortably.

Kane will insist on starting the Final. England will lose, and everyone will blame Kane.

There are so many Turks who live in Germany, probably close to the entire Dutch population.. This is almost like a home match for them.

Many are actually Germans born to Turkish parents living in Germany. A bit like many with Mexican heritage here. That's why you see guys like Gundogan playing for the German national team.
