2024 Summer of Soccer - Euro's, Copa America, Olympics, WCQing (1 Viewer)

Brutal game. Spain dominated though, so can't even really complain about the result.

If we beat Croatia Monday, then we likely play Switzerland Saturday in the Round of 16.

Bowen in for Foden was telling.

England played like they deserved to win to start, and once up a goal stopped playing but still seemed to think they deserved to win. Such a weird approach. And barely deserved the point.
But that's England for you. They are Entitled. "It's coming home!"
I think I saw a clip this morning with Denmark fans chanting "It's never coming home!"

Canada look good through the half. Love how they're going toe to toe with arg, and doing waaaay better in the MF than I ever expected. Also leaving massive holes in their very high back line... But kudos to them for how they're playing.

The number of times tonight where world class players have had a play that was probably 0.9xg and came away empty makes me feel a little better about the USA not being able to finish.

Funny game... I genuinely liked how Canada looked (mostly*) and they still should have lost 7-2.

* Their back line was so flat and static with zero clue how or what to do about diagonal balls and runs through and behind them. Amateurish, tbh... Especially combined with how organized they looked through the MF and forward lines. Sure- arg are freaking good making those runs and passes, but weirdly bad from Canada.

I just finished watching the night cap. Fun game.

Argie played with some fire leaving that a 1 goal game for so long. Canada looked half way decent at times and with a little luck could have tied it. But then again, Messi and Di Maria not scoring on three clear breakaways I guess was more than enough luck.

I was scared to death of the field with all the seams but it held up ok.

The out of sync sound not being fixed for so long on the broadcast was unacceptable.

Nico Williams is a beast
If Spain go on a long run and he keeps any where near this quality, some one is going to trigger his release clause.

While high at a reported 55-58m Euros, it is not unreasonable given his age for one of the bigger teams.
I think that's happening long as he doesn't get hurt. Tottenham linked with him, and they have the money this summer. Chelsea will probably get it done with some 12 year deal or some other New Orleans Saints type routine

Barcelona is also after him it seems.

Who had Messi going 0 for 2 in 1v1 breakaways against Canada's keeper?
Is that why my mom texted me that "Messi has been MLS'd"? :lmao:
Wasn't watching so I didn't know.
Canadian defender (rightly) clattered into him hard- no foul deserved and none given- but people are losing their minds that any body should be allowed to go into the goat that way. And the Can player is being racially abused online as a result.

:censored: the insanity of people.

Having him and Lamine together on the club team as well as the national team would be interesting to watch play out the next several years. So much fun young talent in club soccer at the moment.

Sounds like the field was much worse than it appeared on tv (and it did not look great on TV either). This is a really bad look considering this was suppose to be a dry run for the WC to see how the fields would do when installed over the turf.

Messi actually was really good all game and had a fantastic assist to seal the game. But it is impossible to overlook the two breakaways. The keeper made a fantastic save on the first one and then the rebound went off the face of a defender. It was an odd play that had Messi laughing at the end of it.

Concacaf does things to these games :)
