2024 Summer of Soccer - Euro's, Copa America, Olympics, WCQing (7 Viewers)

Crazy the amount of last second heroics England has conjured up in this tourney. Hate to see my Oranje lose to these cunts but that goal was lovely.

The English Berhalter does it again!

Is Southgate the best manager in the world? Or the best manager in the universe?
Nothing like getting credit when the team wins despite you, not because of you.

I have to admit I was a little shocked when Southgate got the job. I was never impressed with what he did at Middlesbrough - but I'm not sure how you can be too disappointed with his results if you are an England fan. Who's done better?

exactly, and it's not like this is the most talented English side ever too.

Results are results.

True, he hasn't totally bottled this talented team like some others have with their (Belgium, Netherlands, USA, etc)

Last WC was a disappointment but b2b Euro finals with a chance to win one. 4th place in his first WC. Feels like he needs to win Sunday to lead them to '26 but as a quasi-England fan I wouldn't be disappointed if he's the coach no matter the result Sunday. If he wins, well he's the coach maybe as long as he wants.

On paper that is a good run. But with this team, and being England, if he doesn't win one of these, its a failure.

A great run in 2021 but honestly losing that final at wembley to a weak Italian side was ultimately a failure. That game really should have been an England v Spain final.

I’d give you disappointment but failure is too far, IMO. When there’s Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, Belgium and then for WC Brazil and Argentina. All those side have had basically similar talent on average over his tenure.

Then it comes down to coaching. Or FIFA wanting Messi to win. Either way he is in danger of making this team into Belgium.

Espana vs England!

Can’t recall any recent big Spain v England tournament games. Hope they cut loose on Sunday.

The most recent one I recall was 96 where we won on pens

Southgate probably played in that one. Hope he made his pen!
I'm sure you're trolling but it was Germany he missed against

Not trolling. I knew England had surely played Spain in a big tournament but had no recollection of that game. It is surprising its been 28 years since they've played in a tournament. Probably a few qualification games in there somewhere and some friendlies.

Last games were in 2018 - they split a pair of Nations League matches.

Otherwise - 7 friendlies (no qualifiers) since 1996. Spain hold a 4-1-2 advantage.

Yikes - thought it was a silly point when Donovan brought up the number of PL players - but kind of worried for Darke when he brought the same point up 30 seconds later...
I wasn’t totally paying attention thought it was Darke that said it twice, which seemed even worse. Thought my stream was glitching or something

Damn. Full on tackles from behind. Thumb punches to the gut. 3-way slide tackles. It's like a highlight package from a 1970s game in England.

Best part is the way they argue about the yellows. Some of these are borderline RED in 2024 and they act like the ref just shot their mom.

So help me here. Who in soccer history has a similar player profile of disappointing at club level and being so damn good internationally like James?
