Can we discuss pet peeves here? (35 Viewers)

You're just being an assssshat at that point.
Then what's the point of being open till 8? but like SHH said, it's not the owner, it's the staff.

Some places will say they are open until 8, but will stop seating at an earlier time. More restaurants should do this.

It's more of a common courtesy to the staff to not sit down so close to closing when they will have to be working late to serve you.

Many of us have jobs where the only way we work overtime is if we didnt manage our own time well or our boss asked us to. Imagine if whether you had to work OT was up to the general public. Ugh. No thanks.
It does not seem too different to me from last call at bars, which is usually 15-30 minutes before closing time. You don’t have to go home, but they don’t want you to stay there.

I still can't fathom a scenario where I walk into a fast food restaurant and desire to eat inside there. Depressing. Especially if they want to close. You're just being an assssshat at that point. Nobody is getting tipped on your existence inside. You're just being a jerk.

Go eat in your car or go home.

I usually only do on road trips. Sometimes I’ll just eat in the car but if we need a bathroom break we’ll go inside and eat

I’ll also eat inside at a jersey mikes during lunch

I've eaten work lunch at my desk for 30 years. I'm not sure I know what I'd do with a lunch break if I had one.
I’ve gone out for lunch frequently in my professional career . I know it’s not frugal but I just like the mental break of getting out of the office

Retailers that don’t set their default search filter results to “available and in stock at that location” or it is really hard to apply the correct filters. If your name is not Amazon, I want to know if you have the item in stock at the location and what aisle it is on. What I want to know is can I come see it with my own eyes to verify the product is exactly what I want before buying.

Wal Mart incorporating sponsored ads into their search results takes it to the next level of frustration.

I worry that at my age , because my brain is full. In order to learn something new I have to forget something and worry it will be my wife’s name. Young people don’t have this problem because their brain is mostly empty :)

Ditto. Did it today, in fact.

"Last seating at 8:15". Then lock the doors.

I'm guessing this was Subway.

Love Subway. Steak sandwich add bacon. On Italian herbs and cheese. 😋

I’d rather eat a vending machine hamburger

Don’t get me wrong im not opposed to subway but stick to cold cuts there

I never understood Subway. Delis exist. Good delis. You can get phenomenally better sandwiches there.

I can walk into any fast food place at 7:30. Eat my sandwich/burrito/whatever and gtfo by 8pm. If they don't want people coming in at 7:30, they should post that.

7:50 you have a point. 7:30? What the hell takes you so long?

Yes but are there good delis right off a random freeway exit?

Used to eat Subway. Then Jersey Mikes came into our lives.

I go to a Subway once a week or so, but a matter of convenience. Downstairs from my office, and usually a matter of only having time to either get Subway or some even crappier prepackaged sandwich from the grab and go inside my office (which also charges more than Subway). If they replaced the Subway with something better, I would not miss it.

we had a Subway (sandwich and train) on our block.

walking by that frequently made me realize the baking/warming bread smelled too much like vomit. noticed the same at other Subways I'd walk by (sandwiches and train). nothing like the smell of vomit to induce a desire to eat those sandwiches.

and another thing- why don't they cut the bread all the way?

Subway exists precisely because deli's don't exist everywhere.

Maybe I'm spoiled with where I live then, because for every subway around me, I can name multiple sandwich options within a close range. It doesn't take much to make a sandwich that beats subway.

Subway is a last resort. It is just blah and nothing of consequence. Probably the worst of all fast food sandwich places. Give me Jersey Mikes, Firehouse, or any local deli over Subway all day every day. Jimmy Johns and Subway are pretty close but I would take Jimmy Johns over Subway.

Jimmie Johns is lightyears better than Subway.

It's better.........but still light years behind Jersey Mikes or Firehouse.

and another thing- why don't they cut the bread all the way?
Because a sub roll should have a hinge to keep everything in :pokey:
I thought he was talking about cutting a long sub in half.
Oh. Well that’s just laziness by the sub maker
Seems like a directive from Subway. The sandwiches I've had there... Not a lot, but all over the country- seems like that's a thing they do intentionally. Cut it part way, fold it over and shove stuff in there so one long side is open and the other is closed.

and it never looks like it does in their commercials

Not that it takes much but I’m confused
Lol... It's harder to write clearly than I expected.

Take a long roll/baguette and cut it length-wise.

STOP

don't cut it all the way through. One length is cut open and other hasn't. "Hinge" open the roll on the closed "hinge" to expose the inside of the bread.

Put a bunch of bottom of the barrel deli meats in there, close the roll to complete. One long " hinge" side is heavy on the bread, and the other side heavy on deli meats.

Avoid the weird but distinct vomit smell from the place. Consume sandwich?

Got it

I don’t go there anymore really but when we had 2 kids in little league we did a couple times a week in ball season. I feel like we used to get 3 footlongs for $12.99 or something like that.
It was near the ball field, fast and cheap

A good footlong at Jersey Mikes can cost $15.00 to $17.00. I start feeling guilty when I realize I could paid the same price for a large pizza and fed everybody.
Where can you get a large pizza for $17? Those are getting up to $30-$40 for good pizza places (I do not count Little Ceasars as pizza).

Listen, I like Jersey Mikes too but their prices are even crazier than Subways. I get some people don't mind paying extra if the food is better and the food is better. I was able to get a $6.00 footlong steak sandwich at Subway last week with a coupon.

Yeah, I don’t get the jersey mikes love to be honest. Ok at best imo

I'm in FL. $17.00 still gets you a nice pie here. The most expensive pizza here gets to around $25.00 to $30.00. Here's a place we like to go to on the beach:

https://cocoabeach-brunos-pizzeria.menufy.com/
The build your own starts at $18.50 but I couldn't find what each topping adds to the price. My go to would be pepperoni, pineapple, and jalepeno. What would that run? I am guessing about $30 when all is said and done.

It's more of a comparative thing. For fast foods subs it is by far the best. The quality is always the same at any franchise you go to and is all fresh with quality meats/cheeses. Will an actual deli be better? Most likely but for a mass produced type franchise it is by far the best of the ff sandwich places. My favorite is the Giant 99 on Rosemary. Eat half one day and have the other half the next. Solid two meals.

And that giant is bigger and thicker overall than a subway footlong, thus the higher price.

Team GM here. And I'm not really sure why, but even on road trips, we'll go inside for a bathroom break, then order our food and go back to the car to eat and get back on the road.

Used to like togos and Quiznos but haven’t seen them for a while

Good call on Quiznos, haven’t been to one in years. Never heard of togos
