Cleveland Browns (7 Viewers)

Wow. I'm actually excited for Browns fans after they finally seem to be moving in the right direction. Joe Thomas finally gets some talent around him and he retires. How awful. He seemed to be advocating for a lot of players so it comes as a surprise for a Cleveland outsider.

Good luck to you guys this season. Perhaps a Cleveland - Buffalo playoff matchup could really happen one day

How many current hall of famers have never won a playoff game?
There's actually several that never played a playoff game. Especially older guys that played when playoffs were much smaller. **** Butkus, Gayle Sayers, Ollie Matson, Floyd Little, Larry Wilson, Ernie Stautner and Ken Houston are some of the guys that never played in the post-season, but not the complete list.

Was Mitchell better in the slot?  Already have BBC too.

Pretty much can see justification regarding all the moves, but the defensive backfield moves are the hardest to piece together.

Didnt he get like 4 years 30 million with like half of that guaranteed?  He better be above average  :sadbanana:
Player Name, Age Contract PFF Grade Overall (Coverage /Run Def. / Pass Rush))
Trumaine Johnson, 28 5 yrs/$72.5 million ($45 million guaranteed) 74.2 (75.4/77.5/60.0)
Bashaud Breeland, 26 3 yrs/$24 million ($11 million guaranteed) 79.0 (80.1/40/7/59.1)
Malcolm Butler, 28 5 yrs/$61 million ($30 million guaranteed) 79.2 (78.8/56.2/67.5)
TJ Carrie, 27 4 yrs/$31 million ($10 million guaranteed)  84.3 (84.1/48.6/56.9)

Overall, it's a good deal and a good player.  His Coverage Grade is very high as he was more of a Slot CB, he didn't do much in run defense - but better than Breeland.

I also put this in the Barkley thread but I don't see why you guys think that Hydes contract is that much. Browns had/have the cap room and if you don't remember the Vikings just did a similar thing last year. Gave Murray a similar 3 year 15 million deal and then ended up landing/stealing cook in the second. If Barkley falls to 4 I could easily see the browns taking him yet. Only way I don't is if they get a very good offer to move down some or Bradley Chubb is available

Any idea how much cap space we have left?  Sign Suh and Honey Badger to a couple two year fully guaranteed deals.

Lets make this a fun year.

So Joe informed the team of his decision several weeks ago but agreed to not make it public so that it wouldnt affect negotiations during this free agency.

Yeah Joe, #### or get off the pot ya jerk!!!

is SUh still dominant tho, or just living off his name?
He still commands a double team on every play.   He is still very very good put him with the two mentioned above and that would be a nightmare trying to scheme against.   I honestly believe that's 8 wins on general principle

Myself, along with Beer, both said the team probably knows.  But until that info came out, we have to go with what they were telling us, which was Joe hadn't decided yet.

Both are still 100% in play. Saquon less so nowz but if he's there at 4, who knows....

Mayfield and chubb the best picks now
I don't think when push comes to shove that it's impossible Barkley falls to 4:

Cleveland - Darnold/Mayfield

Buffalo (trading up) - Rosen

Indy - Chubb

That seems pretty realistic.

The Giants are not trading the 2nd pick.

They are taking a QB with the 2nd pick.
Maybe but even so it would be the same effect. It would surely make sense for them to take a QB nut the local buzz is they are committing to Eli for this year and likely the next couple and some believe Davis Webb has a future. They also think they can "win now" and would want to use the pick for an impact player.

We'll see. That was just a scenario to show Barkley could fall to 4 - give the Giants a QB there instead and nothing changes on that.

He's still very good - very disruptive.
I would love to see them go get SUH.  They could offer him a 2yr deal with a large sum up front in guaranteed, and a 3rd year option.

I've read CLE is still looking for a WR, Secondary, and DL help in FA.  Names I've heard around include Pryor, Poe, Gaines, Melvin so far.

Dorsey has done a good job at filling in a lot of holes via trades or signings.  The changes on offense with QB, WR, RB, TE and OL make it almost a new team. The secondary is becoming very specialized in their own right, with interchangeable pieces.  All this while not really bringing in aging vets - focusing on those mid to late 20 year olds, essentially grabbing players that previous regimes missed in drafting.

Eli has no intentions of playing into his 40's.. When your this high in the draft you grab his replacement especially when you might not have the opportunity again.

He's 37 - and how would you know?

I agree with your thoughts on what I cropped out - but maybe they don't believe in these QBs as franchise level guys - or maybe they believe a guy like Barkley, Chubb or Nelson puts them in immediate contention - or maybe they think the package they get from the Bills allows them to address their o-line and that's more important right now.

I just think talking in absolutes when it comes to the NFL draft will often lead to one looking foolish. We can offer guesses and opinions - but to say the Giants will take a QB for sure is worthless even if one does turn out to ultimately be right.

OK - I think?

The local buzz in Cleveland was that the Browns had to take Saquon Barkley and Carlos Hyde slammed that door in the faces of the yokel radio clowns.  The NFL network is pimping Barkley to the Giants, they are in the business of getting eyeballs to pay attention to them for two minutes at a time, the desperation reeks.

The top pick is going to be a QB.

The second pick is going to be a QB.

Buffalo is moving up for a QB.  The Buffalo Bills can either trade-up to the 3rd or 4th pick and take a QB.

Denver would take a QB at #5 if, Arizona or Miami or your New York Jets don't move up but the Giants are taking a QB and Buffalo is moving up to take one in the top-four ahead of Denver and the Jets.

i think the top pick has always been a QB like many in this thread have said. The rest is smoke from Dorsey, just like him asking teams to call about the #1 pick. #4 might be up for grabs but I think 1 has always been a QB and I'm also pretty sure they've known for a while who that will be.

ok - we'll see. you may be right.

has there ever been a draft with the first four/five picks all being QBs?
I think the top-three have flaws but upside to rank them very-close together.

Josh Allen is the wild card IMHO but the Bills 'reportedly' have him as their target.

POINT?

It is a unique draft especially when you throw two teams needing a QB at 1 and 2 and two others picking 4 and 5 and a team like Buffalo aggressively moving up for a QB.

From USAToday -

"Penn State RB Saquon Barkley at 2018 Combine:

- Stronger than Joe Thomas
- Quicker than DeSean Jackson
- Faster than Devin Hester
- Jumps higher than Julio Jones@PennStateFballpic.twitter.com/usgR6vJvOn

Quality quarterbacks often go at the beginning, but there usually are not more than two.  At least not anytime recently.  2012, 2015, and 2016 all followed the same formula - either the team picking in that spot needed a QB and picked their favorite or they didn't and moved out to someone that did sometime before the draft.

Now, is this class like those three? only there's more than two? or is it more like last year? or 2014? History says we should know sometime before the draft, but it depends on if the Giants tip their hand prior or not.  The Colts can't act until they do.

I think it's the same as most years. Cleveland, NYJ, Buffalo, SF and a few others all needed QBs last year and were at or close to top of the draft, and the QB prospects were in the same range as this years class (Trubisky, Watson, Mahomes) yet we saw 2 of them drop while teams like Cleveland, NYJ, Buffalo and SF passed on them.

I have serious doubts that the first four picks, let alone the first five picks will all be QBs. I have doubts the Giants or Denver take QBs as well. It will be interesting to see.

I'm starting to think the Jets may move up though - there's a ton of intrigue this year no doubt.
