Cleveland Browns (23 Viewers)

Yep, we're just leverage to those on the open market. Can't blame them. I wouldn't want to play on this team if I had options either.
The thing is that a few credible reporters were used and took hits to their credibility on this one.

That will work once with Adam Schefter but it should never happen again so that agent burned some bridges with the media and with at least one NFL team. Also other teams saw what the POS did and will probably be extremely cautious dealing with him in the future.

Also saw one bit of trivia concerning the Dolphins. They've only re-signed one of their first round picks to a second contract since 1997, Vernon. ONE in EIGHTEEN years. Dolphins haven't challenged for a Super Bowl over those 18 years, longer than the Browns return to the league as an expansion team.

Winning free agency doesn't seem to be the route to success. Also this free agency period really hasn't had many big names change teams. The trades make it seem like big names were signed but the only really big names who changed teams were, Suh, Reevis, and DeMarco Murray. The other names were not in that class. Its actually been a fairly mild free agency class in terms of big names leaving their teams.

Oh and nobody seems to recall that Tampa Bay won free agency last year aaaannnnd who is picking first in the draft this year? Tampa Bay. But they won free agency last year so the ones who ledge ever year over emphasizing free agency and how teams have to sign guys should simply take a longer look at what happens to teams who adopt that strategy.

I never said anything about winning free agency being the key to success. I believe the exact opposite.

We're losing starters to modest contracts and not replacing them while we sit with a ton of unused cap space because those guys couldn't get out of here fast enough and no one else wants to come here unless they have no other options. That's the problem.

Mariota.
Discuss because I've got lots of reservations about his game transferring.

And even if we cashed in the farm and move-up to get him AND he blew up it would take at least a year or two which probably doesn't solve what you see as a free agency problem.

We need receivers. One maybe two top tier guys. Problem is who wants to come here with our ongoing QB situation. Top tier QBs don't want to play here because there is garbage to throw to. So, that being the case we just need Rodgers and Nelson to come here in a package. Then we could start rebuilding.

Or we could just quit screwing up our drafts year after year.

The front office is a joke, so the only way we can get anybody to stay or anyone else to want to come here is to get the QB fixed. There is no other potential QB solution available. Otherwise, we're reliant on Pettine manufacturing just enough wins not to get fired. I think he's a good enough coach to do it, but given the tools he currently has to work with...good luck.

Jimmy is a billionaire. You do not get to be a billionaire unless you are smart and ruthless. We've seen the ruthless nature but don't dismiss his ability to learn.

He knows Pettine is a keeper and he knows he is the one who screwed the pooch last year impetuously forcing the trade-up for Johnny when he fell. He also knows he got killed for firing Chud after one year. He got rapped on the knuckles pretty good so I do not doubt he learned from that.

On the other side of the coin he saw that Pettine can win so he got a taste of the carrot with Pettine and the stick when he acted out impetuously.

So I'm not buying the 'we have to win now or Pettine is gone' argument. Therefore I don't think we have to sell the farm to get a QB this year at all costs. I also think free agency is over rated unless you already have a QB and an overall solid team and are ready to take the next step or what exactly are you trying to accomplish other than soothing the feelings of your fan base who just wants to keep up with the Jones? I mean what is the point? We've done that and how has it worked out so far?

Ive never, in my 30+yrs of life cared so little about the Browns.

If it can go wrong, it has... The defense is good enough to be a playoff team.

The offense, bar Crowell, doesnt even belong on a CFL field.

He's lost any benefit of the doubt with me until he proves otherwise. Show me, don't tell me.

Venting at Jimmy isn't a solution to what you see as a free agency problem nor is making the argument that Jimmy will fire Pettine if we don't trade-up for Mariota which wouldn't solve a thing. But venting? I mean jeesh that has worked right?

Christ, Bracie. Why do you think there is a free agency problem? People don't want to work here for market value. Why? Because Jimmy is running this ####### clown show.

Jimmy has been running it for less than three years and the year after he canned Chud we had our, sic, 'best' season in awhile.

Oh and did you see the latest mock draft out today from Matt Miller?

I think you might find it interesting.

Water, Consciousness & Intent: Dr. Masaru Emoto

Uploaded on Mar 13, 2009
Masaru Emoto was born in Yokohama, Japan in July 1943 and a graduate of the Yokohama Municipal University's department of humanities and sciences with a focus on International Relations. In 1986 he established the IHM Corporation in Tokyo. In October of 1992 he received certification from the Open International University as a Doctor of Alternative Medicine. Subsequently he was introduced to the concept of micro cluster water in the US and Magnetic Resonance Analysis technology. The quest thus began to discover the mystery of water.

He undertook extensive research of water around the planet not so much as a scientific researcher, but more from the perspective of an original thinker. At length he realized that it was in the frozen crystal form that water showed us its true nature through. He has gained worldwide acclaim through his groundbreaking research and discovery that water is deeply connected to our individual and collective consciousness.

He is the author of the best-selling books Messages from Water, The Hidden Messages in Water, and The True Power of Water. He is a long-time advocate for peace in relation to water. He is currently the head of the I.H.M.General Research Institute and President Emeritus of the International Water for Life Foundation, a Not for Profit Organization.

Mr. Emoto has been visually documenting these molecular changes in water by means of his photographic techniques. He freezes droplets of water and then examines them under a dark field microscope that has photographic capabilities.

Some examples from his works include:

Water from clear mountain springs and streams had beautifully formed crystalline structures, while the crystals of polluted or stagnant water were deformed and distorted.

Distilled water exposed to classical music took delicate, symmetrical crystalline shapes.

When the words "thank you" were taped to a bottle of distilled water, the frozen crystals had a similar shape to the crystals formed by water that had been exposed to Bach's "Goldberg Variations"- music composed out of gratitude to the man it was named for.

When water samples were bombarded with heavy metal music or labeled with negative words, or when negative thoughts and emotions were focused intentionally upon them, such as "Adolf Hitler", the water did not form crystals at all and displayed chaotic, fragmented structures.

When water was treated with aromatic floral oils, the water crystals tended to mimic the shape of the original flower.

Sometimes, when we cannot see the immediate results of our affirmations and or prayers, we think we have failed. But, as we learn through Masaru Emoto's photographs, that thought of failure itself becomes represented in the physical objects that surround us. Now that we have seen this, perhaps we can begin to realize that even when immediate results are invisible to the unaided human eye, they are still there. When we love our own bodies, they respond. When we send our love to the Earth, she responds.

For our own bodies at birth are more than 60 percent water, and the percentage of water in our bodies remains high throughout life (depending upon weight and body type). The earth's surface is more than 60 percent water as well. And now we have seen before our eyes that water is far from inanimate, but is actually alive and responsive to our every thought and emotion. Perhaps, having seen this, we can begin to really understand the awesome power that we possess, through choosing our thoughts and intentions, to heal ourselves and the earth. If only we believe.

Whether you participate in global meditations, or simply do this inner work in the quiet of your own loving mind and heart -- we can heal the body of our earth and recreate a clear, pristine world to hand down to our children for seven generations.

So, the spin for picking Johnny Manziel instead of Teddy Bridgewater then watching all of our relevant free agents walk while not bringing anyone in amidst turmoil in the front office is to cite some Japanese guy who researches water.

That's a new one.

What would be new would be picking good players and having a front office know what they're doing.

Please let me know when that starts to happen.

As bad as the front is at drafting, most of the regulars here will be trumpeting a successful draft in May just like the sun will come up tomorrow.

It's more of ####### up 1st rounds than anything else. You have to do better there, it's that simple. Fortunately, the franchise still has the 3 best 1st round picks the franchise has had in 20 odd years. If Taylor could stay on the field, he'd be in that group, I think he's that good. Unfortunately, none of these players are QBs. If Mariotta slides like some are thinking now, the Browns better take him at 12.

Just looking back at last year, the only class the current regime has drafted, are we really knocking them for the non-firsts: Bitonio, Kirksey, West and Desir? And there are some non-drafted players that contributed. I'm not giving up on Gilbert yet like some here are quick to do. Manziel def looks like a bust. So we're right back to needing to make the correct bright light picks.

Yep, they are showing they now how to identify valuable role players. Unfortunately those are just glue pieces, they need core pieces to hold together.

Clev seems like an easy target and I get the frustration of the fans. Actually, as a Steeler fan, I kind of enjoy it.

None the less, this team isn't that far away IMO. Really, just getting competent QB play will likely put them in the playoffs. Of course getting competent QB play seems to be the achilies heal of Clev and something that alludes many other teams.

Rumor has it Johnny Manziel wants to sit out 2015. The Cleveland Browns couldn’t be that lucky.March 14, 2015 ·

Cleveland Browns QB, Johnny Manziel wants to sit out the 2015 NFL season. According to rumors and sources close to the young QB, Manziel doesn’t want to play in the up-coming season. It’s amazing what rehab will do for a person.

One of the first things that happens when a person enters into to a rehab program, is realizing one’s truths. Manziel may have realized, he isn’t NFL quarterback material. He was a major bust in the limited amount of playing time he had last season.

He was injured on a play most guys would have gotten up and walked away from. He is too slow, too small, and too cocky to become an elite QB, in the NFL. His cockiness isn’t going to be enough to carry him on the NFL playing field.

The stuff this kid pulled in College isn’t going to cut it in today’s NFL. Manziel may have woke up and smelled the coffee, now that he’s been sober for a few weeks. It’s no surprise that the Cleveland Browns may have wasted another first round draft pick on Manziel.

The team has a long history of doing that. The Browns may have put too many eggs in one basket with Manziel. They let Brian Hoyer walk, in free agency. Now the team could be scrambling to find a starting QB, before the start of the 2015 NFL season.

If Manziel does take himself out of contention for the starting job, he would be doing the Browns and the fans a huge favor. This kid is a mistake waiting to happen. He won’t make it through the season, and there is no sense is wasting a spot on the roster, if Manziel realizes he isn’t NFL material.

He is no leader of men folks. The Browns need to find someone who is. Otherwise it’s going to be a very painful season for Browns fans……

 So who wrote that and what is their source?
I would question any source that uses un-named sources but I can't argue with anything it says. Also Rizzo, 'The Really Big Show', was saying basically the exact same thing, that he had this rumor from sources he wouldn't reveal but Grossi or whoever was on hadn't heard that one or other rumors about Johnny getting our of rehab.

Now we're hearing updates that Johnny is still in rehab and is expected to get time away from the center so its possible that someone had seen him out because Rizzo seemed very-confident of his sources.

EDIT: LA - theOBR @LaneAdkins · 4m 4 minutes ago

Can’t say won’t happen RT @gusslor: @LaneAdkins what do you think of Rizzo saying his sources tell him Johnny not playing this year.

Dear Mr. Steelers fan, the word is "eludes", and "nonetheless" is one word.

Mr. Browns fan, spelling and grammar are the last thing I worry about when using an iPad. Actually, I never worry about it.Well I guess that's not totally true. I will go back and change some of the crazy auto populated things like when you type RB and they like changing it to Arab. I pick and choose my battles, though.

Last night.

The strategy the front office seems to want to adapt is to start acquiring those compensatory draft picks that teams like Baltimore and New England constantly cultivate. So if we don't spend big bucks in the free agent market and lose guys who get big contracts we will finally start getting extra mid-late round picks....

Trying to make sense of the Browns' conservative free agent strategyMar 09, 2015 -- 6:00am

... For the first time, they appear to be consciously strategizing to collect compensatory draft picks to augment their normal draft pick allotment.

The zany formula: Each year in March, the NFL awards 32 compensatory draft picks to teams based on a complex formula that analyzes the previous free agent spending season.

Basically, a team that loses more free agents than it signs may qualify for up to four compensatory draft picks. The picks are spread over the end of the third round to the end of the seventh round. Losing a high-priced free agent who then performs for his new team increases the chance of a higher compensatory pick in return. The system rewards “net losses” in free agency, so a team aggressive in signing free agents may not qualify for compensatory picks.
As it stands right now we would receiver FOUR additional 2016 compensatory draft picks if we don't sign any unrestricted free agents according to this list that keeps track of compensatory picks.

The 2016 compensatory draft picks we currently stand to get awarded are:

4th round pick for losing TE Jordan Cameron

4th round pick for losing CB Buster Skrine

5th round pick for losing QB Brian Hoyer

5th round pick for losing OLB/DE Jabaal Sheard

Cleveland Browns Qualifying UFAs Lost: 4 Qualifying UFAs Gained: 0 Name Rd. APY Name Rd. APY Jordan Cameron 4 $7,500,000 Buster Skrine 4 $6,250,000 Jabaal Sheard 5 $5,500,000 Brian Hoyer 5 $5,250,000

LOL! Truth be told, I respect your opinions and look forward to your posts.

I'm going to step in again after a long hiatus from the thread.

Nice to see you guys again.

NC guy who grew up with Ray Farmer.

Panthers fan.

Wanted to get your take on a few things.

I can take it; how do you guys feel about Farmer?

Admittedly, he whiffed on two first round picks but did pretty well on the rest of the draft no? He also accumulated another first for this year which will come in handy and a chance to "redeem himself."

Then there's "text gate." talk about that. He came out and took responsibility. Of course, he may have run off Shanahan in the process.

What do you guys think about Cleveland building through the draft, resigning top players, etc.?

I'll hang up the phone and listen.

Said it many times... He's a fine WR2 on an offense that'll throw the ball more than 3yds downfield.

He's much, much better than he's given credit for. But no, by no means a top WR

To be fair, ppl think of Kelce as a top 3 TE these days, and he averaged 53.8ypg last season

Bowe averaged 50.2ypg in the same offense

an offense where Kelce was far more likely to get the ball

Last year he killed it in free agency with WR Andrew Hawkins, LB Karlos Dansby, and SS Donte Whitner, before factoring in the post-draft flurry of free agency signing when he got RB Isaiah Crowell and their were other pretty good signings like WR Miles Austin amongst others like WR Gabriel.

In the draft, first pick #4 I think everyone loved the trade-down with Buffalo getting extra 1st and 4th round picks this year before we heard about WR Josh Gordon's suspension and that Ray didn't bother to draft a WR in a very-deep WR draft class. I think most still love the trade but don't agree with the decision to not pick a single WR in last year's draft.

Then after the trade we held the 9th pick in the draft but I think Ray panicked and basically blew a 5th round pick to move-up one spot. Hated that trade because it made Ray look like an amateur IMHO. I was terrified that we'd pick QB Johnny Manziel with the 8th pick and was relieved we took CB Justin Gilbert but honestly hated that pick at the time. I had no idea about WR Josh Gordon's suspension or I probably would have thought about ODB Jr but I wanted LB C.J. Mosley. Gilbert caught me off-guard so I stayed up late that night pouring over everything on what the Browns were saying and came away convinced it was Head Coach Mike Pettine needing a shut down press cover cornerback to start opposite Pro Bowl CB Joe Haden. So I wasn't happy but felt better about the pick after hearing the reasoning. Gilbert was picked mostly due to Pettine IMHO.

Obviously QB Johnny Manziel is a failure but most people think that was owner Jimmy Haslam behind that pick. The QB coach who took that damn text message was hired BEFORE Pettine so he seemed like a plant from the owner IMHO. He got fired after the season and may have been tied up in the text gate. So not only was Johnny a failure we also traded-up so we blew the 22nd pick in the first round and our 3rd round pick on that fiasco.

Second round OG Joel Bitonio is a stud and was a first round talent. Should be a staple of the offensive line for a long time.

Third round we took LB Christian Kirksey and he has been solid, good pick. We signed RB Ben Tate but still drafted RB Terrence West in the third rond but had no extra third round pick due to Johnny trade-up so we had to blow extra picks to trade-up to take West. West has had his share of issues but reports are he dropped some weight and hopefully has matured because he is shiftier than Crowell and could have a big role in new OC Flip's offense.

Fourth round CB Pierre Desir started out looking like a long term project but got PT late in the year and looked really good in limited action. Could be a legit sleeper even though he lacks the speed and overall athleticism of Justin Gilbert.

Ray then traded away a late 7th round pick for an additional 6th round pick this year to add to the extra 1st and 4th round picks from the Buffalo trade.

Ray is a mixed bag but overall his draft was good even if both 1st round picks bust because of the extra 1st and 4th round picks and how big Joel Bitinio pick turned out and the solid play of Kirksey and promise of West and Desir before factoring in Crowell and the rest of the free agents.

Some in the media don't like his demeanor because he doesn't answer questions directly and they think he is trying to be the smartest guy in the room. I hate that saying because goddamit NFL GMs are PAID to be the smartest guys in the room on draft day so I think that is petty bickering by frustrated old men who cover the team and are truly sad-sac characters who basically whine.

But per Ray.

Its all about the QB.

He has to learn that if he hasn't already.

He blew it on Johnny and should have stood up to Haslam and told him NO that he was sitting tight and not trading up for that Texas QB and would take QB Teddy Bridgewater at 22. If he did that then he would be seen as a savior because not only would we have the QB we also would have been able to keep that 3rd round pick and save the picks we blew to move-up into the 3rd round to take RB Terrence West.

I don't think Ray can get his QB this year. I hope he doesn't blow both 1st round picks to move-up because I am not sold on Mariota and would prefer to trade-down one of those picks to get an additional 1st round pick in 2016 to load up to get a QB then.
