Cleveland Browns (10 Viewers)

Two 1sts

A third and a 6th.

Ya, I wanted Mack HARD, but absolutely not.
Chicago also got a 2020 2nd

Even still, giving up that much in draft assets AND a 140 million dollar deal.  Just too much.  I only woulda been on board with this if we were a sure playoff team with out biggest need being a pass rusher

@MikeGarafolo

#Browns claimed LB Tanner Vallejo, source says

Browns also claimed DL Carl Davis, source says. Second draft today for Cleveland.

Browns GM John Dorsey struck again, claiming five players off waivers:
*NT Carl Davis from Ravens
*C Aaron Neary from Rams
*DE Ifeadi Odenigbo from Vikings
*DB Tavierre Thomas from Cardinals
*LB Tanner Vallejo from Bills.

Bucs claimed him.  I really liked him when he was coming out.  Numbers game?  Obviously he's no financial genius.
Sashi guy and kinda JAG'y, but overall an okay rotational piece.  I think worse edge guys were kept, but it's more a case of I don't think the guys we kept are any good and less that Nassib is.  What's eyebrow raising is that it wasn't a numbers game, on the line anyway - the rotation is thin.  Extra guys were kept at OT, TE, and QB.

The only thing about Mack that concerned me was the crazy cap hit.  The draft compensation was less than two-1st round picks because the Raiders sent the Bears a 2nd with lesser picks swapped to round things out but it was less than two-1st round picks.

We weren't serious players but check out what Hue said about the draft picks.

Browns react with surprise to the Khalil Mack trade news during Hard Knocks

“They’re going to give them two No. 1s. Two No. 1s?! Oh, my gosh. That’s a lot,” Jackson said.
We have to remind everyone that Hue was willing to give up a 2nd and 3rd for A.J. McCarron.

Hue wasted a chance to address the LT position the minute Joe Thomas announced his retirement but went with Shon Coleman which was a joke decision.

Now, with days before the first game he is still undecided about the LT position.

Cleveland Browns scrambling to get lines settled

..., the situation on the offensive line is completely avoidable and appears to be a product of a head coach that cannot help but look unorganized and ill equipped. Despite asking Joel Bitonio to play left tackle and having Austin Corbett take almost every rep of preseason and make real strides in the right direction at left guard, Jackson has opened the door to the possibility Bitonio will go back to guard and undrafted rookie Desmond Harrison will start at left tackle.
Desmond Harrison, the FA O-Lineman who 'might' replace Bitonio actually is viewed as an intriguing prospect but the line should have been sorted out months ago.

I would be careful discrediting Desmond Harrison’s talent due to UDFA status. He was a CC All-American, top recruit, and went to Texas for a stretch. Without some off field issues he was getting drafted near the top half of the draft. Senior Bowl invite validates the skill set.

If Harrison takes over the LT position then Btionio moves back to RG and that opens the door for Corbett to take over at OC so the line would have two rookies starting and that 'might' happen at some point this year.

On the defensive line,  we cut guys who were starting and playing a lot in the rotation for WW pickups and those guys are going to get a lot of PT so the D-Line is going to be in disarray to a lesser degree.

The negative is Hue looks like he is even more clueless than what I originally thought but the positive is we 'may' have better raw players with upside than the players we cut.  The caveat is that Hue Jackson is going to be charged with coaching them up.

Anything to expedite the exit of this cancer of a coach.  Whenever in a tough spot he makes the wrong decision.  Every. Single. Time.
It's amazing but so true. It's hard to put a string together like Hue has but very little surprises me anymore when it comes to the Browns. I'm hoping the talent on the team and the coordinators are enough to overcome the buffoonery we see out of the head office.

Perhaps he'll be the first HC to go 0-16 twice (in a row)

Our DC only does not appear to be clueless because of the HC that takes all of the attention away.  He's a joke too.  This team is handcuffed as long as those two losers are here steering the ship right into an iceberg.

I tend to be an optimist when it comes to the Browns this early in the season and even I will happily report, if Hue is 0-4 you'll be looking at Todd Haley in week 5 as the interim HC.

So we have an undrafted rookie starting at left tackle?
An undrafted rookie that has 1st round talent.

This could end up being a steal of a legitimate 1st round talent left tackle.

He has red flags but I think Callaway is/was a bigger risk when you look at both of their histories.

If he can stay clean, this guy has a chance to be really really good.

Desmond Harrison...come on down!

Was that our theme this year? Signing guys that failed drug tests at the combine? Quite the resume young man.

After getting kicked out of Texas following the 2014 season -- a year in which he was suspended three times, tested positive a few times for weed, was shot in the upper thigh and never saw the field -- he sat out of football for two more years, trying to figure out his next move.

After Harrison, 24, went undrafted because of off-the-field concerns and a failed drug test at the NFL combine according to Bleacher Report's Matt Miller, the Browns scrambled to sign him as a free agent, beating the Giants to the punch.

Sure.  Sometime in the future.  Week 1 though? When he's played only 1 of the last 3 seasons? And it was against D2 caliber talent? And he's missed most of the offseason due to injury?

This is a hail mary from a desperate man that realizes every decision he's made at left tackle since Joe retired has been the wrong one.

I don't understand why, Bitonio was good enough, why change now?

He barely played with the starters in preseason, and Bitonio spent all his time trying to be a left tackle.

So what do we do for week 1?  Change it all around.

Nice timing Hue.  How many play into the game until Taylor gets nailed due to a breakdown in blocking assignment from the left side.

Browns should start the season at 2-2.  First two games are tough but the next two games are winnable.
I see no reason the Browns can't win this week.  None.  Being at home is an enormous advantage week 1.  We have a competent QB, good RBs, good WRs, good TE, ok Line, and what looks to be a pretty darn good D.

Personally, I think it's a total 50-50 toss up game

Agreed. This is one of THOSE games where the public has no idea how good Cle really is and how Pit is less so and Vegas even prices it as such. Browns ML +200 feels great.

Browns +5 feels a lot better.

Browns/Ravens teaser feels even better.  Puts Browns and +11 and the Ravens would just need to win the game at home against a Nathan Peterman led Bills.

Geeze, when is sports gambling gonna be legal in Ohio.  Cmon ya stupid ### politicians.

I agree that the new Browns can beat the Steelers at home.  But, if they do not, it is not the end of the world.  Starting 2-2 is very probable.

i concur.  i’ve been banging this drum for a while.

10 plays in.

strip sack fumble recovery for a defensive TD.

Because of why he shouldn't have done it in the first place.  With Bitonio at guard you have 4 good-to-great pieces and an unknown at #5.  Don't mess with what's working to try and figure out piece #5.  Just try to figure out piece #5.  By moving Bitonio issues were created at positions other than just left tackle.  Was Bitonio good enough at tackle?  Maybe, but it also came with increased problems elsewhere on the line.  The problem is now Bitonio has spent more than a month trying to figure out a new position only to have the rug pulled out from under him right in front of the opener - all those nuances you've been fine tuning?  Forget all of them and be who you were before with no practice reps.  While also being keenly aware of the new problem working to your left.  So it's reasonable to expect his play to suffer now too.

Bravo, Hue.  Bravo.

There has to be a way to get this post to Hue.  Or Dorsey.  Or Haslem.  Or everyone int he front office/ownership.

How can we make this happen.
