Genrepalooza 3: Playlists are done, phwew (1 Viewer)

I can still hear this blasting out of every car on the street back in university days. Wikipedia tells me it's technically "Crunk&B"

Round 6 - Oh - Ciara f/Ludacris - R&B

Skip me if it gets to me. I've got three R&B in the hole, one is my favorite. I have a meeting at seven and need to split now.

I've got meetings the rest of the morning so I'll put mine up now. Pretty sure no one would be sniping this one anyway.  ;)

This guy's spent a decade writing songs for big-time artists in a dozen different genres - everyone from Nelly to Faith Hill to Charlie Puth. Apparently, about 3 years ago he woke up one day and said, "hey, how about I write something for myself?" Really catchy tune - kind of an Outkast-esque funk vibe to it.

Genre: R&B

6.16 - Shy Carter - "Bring It Back" (2015)

A rough approximation of a recent actual conversation I had ...

My SIL - I love the Wallflowers' cover of this song. Jakob Dylan has the perfect voice for it, it works so well with their arrangement ...

Me - Counterpoint: LEMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Genre: Covers

7.01 - Motörhead - "Heroes" (2017)

6.xx

Genre - R&B/Neo Soul

Artist - Lucy Pearl

Song - Dance Tonight

Raphael Saadiq, Dawn Robinson from En Vogue, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad are the rare supergroup that cut a song straight for my heart. Even my punk ### loved this when it came out. Love hearing this. It sounds timeless.

As a huge Santana fan, I was apprehensive b4 clicking this.

My concern was unfounded.

Really great cover! 👍
Thanks. I was actually hesitant to post that one due to the electronic/scratching break. Apparently, some people *really* don't like that and I have another cover or two that I like that I don't think have ever been posted in any of our drafts. However, the fact it is new (new being relative with us ancient posters) I put it out there since I doubt many in our draft had heard it.

A lot of the "rap" I like is basically dance music (Wikipedia descriptions of Grime, UK Garage, hip-house, etc...), I'm realizing.
For me "rock" is the toughest category in the new millennium. Every rock song I like I think is really more punk or dance or pop or dreampop or folk. I don't know what straightforward rock is anymore.

Yeah, I noticed that... most of my stuff is labeled "alternative"

Round 7.xx

Genre - Rap

Artist - T.I.

Song - I'm Talkin' To You

Yeah, this is my home category, but I'm not feeling covers right now. Anyway, this is off of T.I.'s 2006 album, King, an album perfect in its braggadocio and bombast. Vinyl Me, Please just recently re-released this on sweet 180 gram black-and-white colored vinyl and did a great write-up about why they picked it as their record of the month. I joined the club just to get this record. Anyway, this is T.I. at his cockiest best, tellin' up-and-comers who was truly the king in 2006. Just Blaze is on the production with staccato horns and some nice trap drums.

Yep, I was also thinking this. The Killers were seven different types of rock according to Wikipedia.

Rock includes all those other sub-genres.

The two previous Genrepaloozas had more specific categories but my goal with this one was for _any_ song you loved from this century to be draftable in some category.

ETA:  don't be a :nerd: and overthink this

Rd 7 ;Sturgill Simpson- The Promise (cover)

I remember first listening to this album and I kept replaying this song just loving it. I had to listen to it a  :bag:  of times before I realized it was a cover.
Honestly, I am not much of a country fan. And, most of the country I do like, is older.

But, I do like some newer country - this is one - now.

Thnx.

Also - the spotify link worked on both my phone & laptop. It seems the issues we had this past weekend are now solved.

Question for the vets:

Does a cover song that was recorded live on an episode of VH1’s Decades Rock, qualify, if it was not released anywhere else?

If not, no problem.

Thnx.

edit: oh - obviously post 2000

This song in particular isn't a snipe, but he was one of the artists I was generally considering for the rap category, so I'm happy he got chosen and that I can focus my efforts elsewhere.

There's another one or two I was considering going with, but this song sort of struck me again while listening to it this time around. I dig the production by Just Blaze, I guess.

That's basically what you did with the Frank Ocean pick. I had a song all lined up for this AM until I saw your pick last night.
