Greta Van Fleet - A Change is Gonna Come

I know these guys are derivative but I’m happy to see some young bucks keeping this sound alive. I think they’re incredibly talented musicians, albeit not very original.

Got distracted there for a sec, sorry. Love this one. Killer use of the samples. Dude was just starting out, recording K.R.I.T. Wuz Here in his grandma's bathroom, with everything to prove, and that drive definitely comes through.

Okays,

I got no negative answers @ my VH1’s Decades Rock question, so, I'll roll it.

7.09 Fiona Apple - I Want You (Cover; 2006) - recorded from: “Elvis Costello & Friends” episode of VH1’s Decades Rock

This song, recorded by Costello - 1986’s Blood & Chocolate - has him paired with Fiona (he plays guitar), so Elvis fans get something of the original as well.

It is a song about the longing - sometimes creepy, obsessive and manic - of an ex-lover. My reason for choosing it, has nothing to do with the "lover" part. Rather, in my mind, it is a song about an unmitigated longing (for life in my particular instance) and human contact. Depression is a major MF'er - and when it hit, I often felt like Fiona in regards to life itself. Thus, listen to it that way when watch'n the vid...at least this once.

Speaking of the vid, I am actually not super fond of the intro; the magic begins at the 1:05 minute mark. Thus, rather than skipping the vid, if the first notes don't knock yer pants off, jump ahead.

Regarding the lyrics, I already qualified how I listen, but I do want to note one particular run:

I want you

The truth can't hurt you it's just like the dark
It scares you witless
But in time you see things clear and stark
...if absolutely nothin' else interests ya, this part at 3:40 blows. me. away!

Soooo moving.

It is my manic love song to life when hittin' a depression.

I hope you like it.

@Long Ball Larry - up

@Mr. Ected - on deck

@Scott Tenorman can go again.

Not that it's a requirement, but I am struggling to be mildly original with the categories available.
Weird.  I'm finding this not only fun, but finding stuff I haven't previously drafted is a cinch.  Things I hadn't even considered are presenting themselves.  I think the date restriction is helping me out.

8.xx  Wild Nothing - Summer Holiday  (Dream Pop; 2010)

Pretty sure this album (Gemini) was my #1 in the 2010 FFA/ @Northern Voice countdown (if we did one that year).

@Eephus
This good. I am still trying to figure out the Dream Pop genre. I think I am getting closer.

Pop-y, but kinda spacey as well - maybe a little psychedelic.

Not sure if I am ready to start choosing my own Dream Pop songs, but I think by the end of this draft, I will be able to.

Yeah, at 1st that really concerned me, but I wanted to join the song drafts.

Now, I am like you. Well spoken.

I'm guessing there are tons of songs you haven't drafted before.

ROUND 8 - NONE OF THE ABOVE

As Slow As Possible - John Cage (2001)

Well, I guess technically this was originally conceived prior to Cage's death in 1992, but it was officially begun playing in 2001.

A 1997 conference of musicians and philosophers discussed the implications of Cage's instruction to play the piece "as slow as possible", given that an organ imposes virtually no time limits. A project emerged to perform the piece for 639 years. A properly maintained pipe organ has no specific lifespan; the duration was chosen to commemorate the first documented permanent organ installation, in 1361 in the Halberstadt Cathedral, 639 years before the proposed start date of 2000.[8]

The instrument

An organ built specifically for the performance was completed in 2009.[9] It stands in the right transept of the Burchardi Church, with the bellows in the left. Between January and May 2005, it contained only six pipes. Because the instrument sounds constantly, there is a cube of acrylic glass around it to reduce the volume.[citation needed]

Performance

The performance commenced in the St. Burchardi church on September 5, 2001, with a pause lasting until February 5, 2003. The first chord was then played until July 5, 2005. The chord consisting of A above middle C, C above middle C and the F♯ above that (A4-C5-F♯5, essentially an F♯dim chord) began sounding on January 5, 2006, and concluded on July 5, 2008. That sonority can be heard on a website devoted to the Halberstadt event.[10]

On July 5, 2008, the weights holding down the organ pedals were shifted resulting in the 6th chord change.[1] Two more organ pipes were added alongside the four already installed and the tone became more complex at 15:33 local time. The bellows provides a constant supply of air to keep the pipes playing.[11]

The most recent note change occurred on October 5, 2013, and the next change will not occur until 2020. The performance is scheduled to end on September 5, 2640.
