Random question (given that it's now clear that he had top secret documents): does anybody here actually think it's okay/no issue that Trump took top secret documents after he left the White House? I'm genuinely curious here. To be clear, this question does not concern or consider criminal culpability. I'm simply wondering whether there are people who may actually think his actions were just fine (regardless of whether it was a criminal act, broke some policy, etc.).
Put more simply: is it okay for a former president to just take top secret documents home after his term?
I guess I'll (perhaps unfairly) call our @knowledge dropper @Stealthycat @BladeRunner @quick-hands

I would say most lawyers, 95%+ wouldn't, GB.
In this case, I can't reason why any lawyer that wanted anything but exposure would take the case. He didn't even pay Giuliani. Make a name for yourselves in the MAGA circles and make a fortune.

Also, I don't think that's the public opinion of lawyers. Back in the 70's, that seemed like a thing to stereotype lawyers as ambulance chasers but the 80's turned them into super stars. You of course would know better.

Apologies if this has been brought up before, but what would prevent Trump, or anyone, from making copies (or taking pictures of) Top Secret docs? IOW, if you wanted Top Secret information to sell to others, why do you need the originals that can be easily identified as unreturned?

Where did I quote the NYT? There are plenty of sources reporting what he had, showing they claimed they returned it all, showing they didn't really return it all leading to the raid in questions...and now questioning whether he still has not returned it all.

Numerous people in his admin have stated in interviews that he was clearly explained how this all works many, many times. To the point where one guy grossly enlarged documents so that Trump could not tear them up.
Many documents had to be taped back together.
