\\m// Official Dealer's Choice Music Mixtape Draft (1 Viewer)

I'm going to get my Rush out of the way now, as though I like Rush, it's a pretty shallow like and runs a handful of songs deep.

2.11: Subdivisions - Rush (Rush song)

I know it's from their hyper-synth phase. In fact I played it for a youngster who had never heard it and he thought it was a song from a NES game or something due to the synth tracks.

But the Neil Peart ride cymbal pattern is my favorite work of his, and it is probably my favorite Rush song.

If you have a question about a song fitting in the category can we send it to someone? Or just post it and get ridiculed?

Also going the Beatlesque route here:

2.14 The Monkees – “Porpoise Song (Theme From Head)”

Big departure for the Monkees here, as it was for the superstar writing team of Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Trippy to say the least, but a high quality tune IMO. Got some well-deserved recognition last year when Mad Men used it in an episode.
I went on a Monkees run in my yut (my HS band covered Stepping Stone)... don't recall hearing this one- nice.

Going to try to slip this in the gay blue grassish category. It's not a stand up bass with banjos and fiddles, but it is classified indie folk, which is kind of how I understood the category -- contemporary tweaked modern blueish folk grass... right? Anway, the ambient quality is what I'm seeking, so... hopefully new to some of you. Probably the kind of band DougB is seeking more exposure to.

They're pretty fresh out of Los Angeles. I've seen them live and enjoyed it. Feel free to overrule for the category, and I'll go with a mandolin led instrumental.

2.05 Lord Huron -- Ends of the Earth
There are a few categories where I've still only got one good idea, but this one's guaranteed to be the only track I can pull for this cat without cheating or punting so I'll take it now

Trampled By Turtles - Wait So Long (bluish grass)

For Time Kibitzer:

As an observer, this draft is so fun. All three of these were new to me, and all three are outstanding.

Skip me if I come up, I'll pick when I get back.
Ditto for Floppy Lane.

Not that anyone cares, but we decided today he has odd rounds, I'll take even rounds. If it gets to me before the clock ends today, feel free to skip me and I'll pick tonight.

TIA

I had lunch with El Floppo today - first time meeting. Good guy. We talked about a million topics - kids, FFA, FF/poker frustrations, f'n Manhattan rents. After we said goodbye he shouted across Fifth Avenue "We forgot to talk about the draft!!"

Maybe you had to be there, but it was good for a laugh.

Sounds romantic! HVD, boys.
Meeting on Valentines Day, and pushing for the gay folk category... I'm thinking they're on the down-low. Bobby + Floppy =

I'm going for ambiguity.

I'm feeling a little Louis CK on this. I could go the second half. Why not? I've sucked at relationships with women for a half century...maybe I'll try something different.

They have a parade!

No homo.

Also, I've been bagging a 25 year old spinner from Japan all year. I haven't had a heart attack (yet). Def not going gay until that fling ends.

Probably should have said as long as instead of until, right?

OK, I'm done with ambiguity. Not gay, not bi. But still love queer music. It'll all make sense later.

ETA: thumbs

Ok, I am the first one to admit that taking a song from a concert movie is a big time cop-out. However, Stop Making Sense was a pivotal movie for me. The first time I watched Stop Making Sense, it was a life moment that sticks with me (ok I was high). They talk about heroin addicts chasing that first high. Well, I have spent my life chasing that perfection of that moment watching and listening to and being changed by that concert movie. I know the birth of children or falling in love or climbing mountains (literal and figurative) should surpass my late teen self-watching Stop Making Sense, but apparently nothing can.

When you watch Stop Making Sense you see not only the skill, but the joy they had in these perfect moments. I have always wished there was a steady shot available of each person on stage without a cut. Anyway, the last song fit the category and made the scene that much better or whatever Usuals criteria was. J

2.16 "Crosseyed and Painless” – Talking Headshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyDb4szpWmc (80s movie soundtrack)

The Lord Huron thing started off slow and I didn't think I'd like it, but then the chorus was great. Altogether a very good song.

Wow, "Spiral" is beautiful piece of music. Reminds me a little of a Wilco tune (with words, which I won't name here as I might select it later.)

Time to get religious

Religious songs/Non-religious artists

Couldn't have also placed this in Scandanavian, Awful lyrics you love (My Guinness record breaker?????)

and Prince song (a bit of a stretch, but one of the 3 loves to wear purple and is trying hard to look like Prince - Musically nowhere near it)

2.06 - Army of Lovers - Crucified - 3:32

I'm crucified
Crucified like my Saviour
Saintlike behavior
A lifetime I prayed

I'm crucified
For the holy dimension
Godlike ascension
Heavens away

I've seen the deepest darkness
And wrestled with Gods
Ride the noble harness
Raining cats and dogs

I stand before my Maker
Like Moses on the hill
My Guinness record breaker
I abide your will

The first of reciter
I saw eternal light
Best of vocal fighter
Beyond human sight

Where thorns are a teaser
I've played a double jeu
Yherushalaim at Easter
I cry I pray mon Dieu
I cry I pray mon Dieu

I'm crucified
Crucified like my Saviour
Saintlike behavior
A lifetime I prayed

I'm crucified
For the holy dimension
Godlike ascension
Heavens away

Prophets I've been reading
Stories I've been told
Before I end my breathing
I travel in the soul

Where thorns are a teaser
I've played a double jeu
Yherushalaim at Easter
I cry I pray mon Dieu
I cry I pray mon Dieu
I cry I pray mon Dieu
Adieu mon Dieu

I'm crucified
Crucified like my Saviour
Saintlike behavior
A lifetime I prayed

I'm crucified
For the holy dimension
Godlike ascension
Heavens away

I'm crucified
For the holy dimension
Godlike ascension
Heavens away

I'm crucified
Crucified like my Saviour
Saintlike behavior
A lifetime I prayed

I'm crucified
For the holy dimension
Godlike ascension
Heavens away
Army of Lovers had many Top 10 hits on the Eurochart, the biggest being "Crucified", which was one of the biggest selling European singles of 1991. Their total album sales were seven million copies worldwide.[3]

Kurt Cobain of the hugely successful alternative rock group Nirvana praised the band in his posthumously published journals, but specifically the song "Crucified."

The song was successful in several European countries, including Germany, Sweden, Austria and Switzerland, where it reached the top 10. It reached the #1 in Belgium.[1] In the United States, "Crucified" became a huge club hit and radio favorite, debuting at #6 in the U.S. Billboard Dance singles chart and spending a total of 14 weeks in the Top-20.

The video for the song was featured in the third season episode of Beavis and Butthead Cleaning House. The pair react favourably to the video when Camilla is on screen (mainly due to her breasts) but complain when the men appear.
WTF?

That was so bad I loved it.

It also made my pants tight, and then loose, and then tight and then loose again.
