Mike Tyson Vs Jake Paul? (1 Viewer)

no heavy head shots etc but damn if Paul pisses him off in the ring it might be all bets off lol.
I work with a couple of guys who are big-time boxing fans and they said this exact same thing. Tyson will go along with the script until Paul starts yapping and showboating and then it is goodnight, nurse.
please for the love of god and all that which is holy let this happen take that to the bank brochachos

This isnt the 90's. You guys are giving a 57 year old Tyson too much credit.
I'm not saying Paul will win, but I'm not saying he wont.
Tyson is still strong and still bat-s crazy.
Yeah. I’m sure they have an exhibition agreement……no heavy head shots etc but damn if Paul pisses him off in the ring it might be all bets off lol.
Tyson also seems a guy like any goat that is just hyper competitive. Like he is going to destroy anyone in his way no matter what. I don’t think its a mentality the greats can shut off. Especially when in a ring again…and he gets hit…all “agreements “ are off. Thats why they were great.

See, I think Tyson has really softened over the last few years. He doesn't want to be that "animal" anymore and is in a much better place mentally. You should hear him on podcasts, etc. He really has become an introspective guy with a lot of great insights.

I need a Tyson and Charles Barkley broadcast

The 10 second training clips are nice but I really think people (other than oddsmakers and gamblers) are underestimating what it means to be a 58 year old guy who's been training and beating the crap out of his body since he was a teenager. I'm sure technique and instincts of a retired pro boxer count for a lot in this, but I'm far from certain as others here are that will be enough to overcome the massive athletic advantage a 27 year old in the prime of his life has in this. I'm thinking of the example where a top level professional women's soccer or basketball team plays a team of 15 year old boys. The women have this massive advantage in terms of experience, skill/technique but typically get bowled over by raw speed and power.

One thing we know for sure is that Tyson will give full effort. Dude has money. He is gonna try and win. When Tyson lost to Buster back in 1990 I actually cried. Tyson was everything I wanted in a champion. Such a sad day. That was the day that allowed the UFC to surpass my interest in boxing a few years later. 1990? Crazy. I don't have a problem with Jake Paul. Dude made his brand. Even at 57, Tyson is gonna give him problems. Hopefully.

Still can’t believe that guy got his own Sega Genesis game

If Iron Mike lands a few it might not last very long

I was in a dorm room when someone told me that Tyson got knocked out. I thought it had to be wrong because there was no way somebody named “Buster” knocked out Tyson!

I didn’t cry though. I think we were all laughing in disbelief.

Yeah I'm far from a boxing expert but this seems like a classic situation where Tyson has to end this early or he'll run out of steam quickly. The main wildcard is the extent to which its scripted, which renders all this discussion pointless. Since its free on Netflix, I'll probably watch assuming I don't forget and I don't have literally anything else to do that night.

A lot of talk of the "script" being set up for Paul. But what if they flipped the script and set it up for Tyson? Mike is the old dog and also the underdog. If he loses this one nobody is going to be interested in a yet older Mike in a rematch. Maybe a controversial headbutt early in the fight that puts Jake off balance and ripe for the upset.

I saw a TikTok (sorry for the lame source) that said there are going to be nonstandard rules like:

1) Paul will wear headgear
2) Paul does not have to get down to a certain weight
3) Paul will not be drug tested, basically saying he can be a juice monster at any weight.

Not sure if any/all that is true. I looked more and couldn't find anything but figured I'd toss it in here anyway.

TikTok is notoriously untrustworthy but the headgear wouldn't surprise me but if he wears headgear, Tyson will to. I don't think even Texas would sanction a fight with one guy in headgear and the other without...but who knows. If it's a heavyweight fight, of course there is no weight limit. I have no idea what Tyson weighs now but when he was in his prime, he was 220 and Paul has been fighting under 200. So Paul better be big for the fight. I do not believe a fight would be sanctioned in Texas without drug testing or at least the threat of it.

Have you seen Mike Tyson lately? He still looks extremely dangerous.
Have you seen him Box say I don't know ever since he got out of prison back in the 90's.

Come on man.

Tyson at 57? Any half decent
Boxer will destroy him now.

This has to be a circus side show right?

When the **** was Tyson last for real?
I will tell you when.....before Buster Douglas knocked him out.

He has never been close to the same Tyson since.

Meh. You put that much money in front of anyone and they will down what they are told to do
Maybe. Im not gonna pretend to know what Tyson is thinking here. I will say we have a boxing career of him being as ferocious of an athlete we have ever seen and going off script being crazy. Like someone said earlier. He may or may not have some weird money making deal in place. We shall see if he remembers his signature after he gets hit in the face and goes crazy Mike. I'm not gonna pay to watch this fight but I'm definitely interested in it.

I am obviously pro Tyson but he is very old. This fight (assuming it isn't just some staged BS) is actually just a measure of how old can someone be before they are tapped out?

Ok, seems pretty relevant when responding to what I asked.

Is what good, the 10 seconds of pad work?
You said he could barely walk. What length of pad work would prove he can walk?
Not really looking to get into an argument. I remember a couple year ago he was in a wheelchair and using a cane for whatever he was dealing with, I'm not making that up. You then posted a clip from like 4 years ago as proof that he was fine. No big deal.

Like you think it will end up being an exhibition or you think it will be one-sided?

Pretty shameful **** from Paul IMO, but I guess you gotta grab that $$$.

It's more than likely a sparring event more than a fight IMO.

And what about Logan or Jake Paul would make you ever think he wanted to do something other than make money

Not that I have any love for these dudes, but isn't this exactly what every boxer is doing? Trying to make as much money as possible?
Well sure every human is trying to make money. Not everyone is trying to make the max amount of money or is only into making money.

But boxers? I mean maybe there are a few dudes who just want to smash faces, but in general they want to win and collect the purse

I think for many athletic pursuits, mid-to-late fifties is pushing physiologic limits. And some activities much earlier.

Reflexes are one of the first things to go, along with quickness. Those seem really important in boxing. But there is precedent for old boxers:
He may not be a household name like some of the other boxers on this list, but Steve Ward was recognized for being the world’s oldest professional boxer by the Guinness Book of World Records on two separate occasions. Ward was first named the world’s oldest boxer in 2011 at the age of 54, but briefly lost it in 2015. Later that year, Ward (who was 59 at the time) regained the title in a fight against Jody Meilke, a boxer 24 years his junior. Ward finally retired in 2017 when he was about 61 years old.

Tyson is -300, Paul +200 on bovada
You have this completely backward

Paul is -400 or so to win
Tyson +275

Paul is a massive favorite here.
odds are moving:

While sports betting odds aren’t available from licensed sportsbooks, some offshore sportsbooks have posted odds for the fight. Bovada, one such unregulated, offshore sportsbook, has Paul as a -225 favorite, with Tyson a +170 underdog.

In the 24 hours since the odds posted, they’ve shifted in Tyson’s direction, as Paul opened as a -500 favorite.

Of course the people are doing it for money. That's a given.

I think what some folks are feeling is the tension between sport and spectacle.

For lots of people in their 50's, they grew up where boxing was a highly respected sport. Sure there were some flamboyant promoters and such but by and large the primary talk on Boxing was about "normal" boxers and boxing.

Not the spectacle stuff like this.

I don't deny it's interesting. This is text book for drawing people in with the young celebrity guy vs the old champion. It's formulaic and I expect it'll have a huge audience. It's just different from what many think of (or maybe thought of is more accurate) as the sport of boxing.
