Music Draft - Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Songs Garbage List - Now with unhealthy regional pork-stuffs! (1 Viewer)

About 15 years ago, one of my aunts was having a tough time, she'd separated from her husband, got into a car accident, broke her ankle and then got shingles all within a month or so time period.

Anyway, my darling niece was probably 8 or 9 at the time and very smart/well-spoken so she was talking about this aunt to another family member at a large family gathering, recounting the tribulations, until she reaches the end and says...

...and now she's got bricks!

:lmao: . It may not come across the same in writing but my poor niece (who is now mid 20s and an accountant and doing very well for herself) still hasn't lived it down and shingles = bricks in our family now.

There are many to choose from their catalog ... but how strong a contender for U2's best is "Pride (In the Name of Love)"? At least an easy Top 5 from them, right?
They have a lot to choose from.

I have other favorites...probably Bad on a given day...but no issue with One being up there.

If you asked me what I thought the cultural consensus #1 U2 song was, I'd probably say "One" or "Where The Streets Have No Name"

One was my answer for a long time too, could still be. Achtung Baby is so good.

My current fave is "Out of Control" though.

Also thinking about Achtung Baby makes me think there's probably a few equivalent top 500 albums lists we could pivot to at some point

It is, and I was shocked that it didn't show up on the RS 500 list. Same with Sunday Bloody Sunday, though that could be hampered by the studio version being inferior to the Under the Blood Red Sky version.

cos sniped me, so I'm gonna have to dance my blues away.

Round 16

Dancing Queen - ABBA  (#286)
Not so much a fan of ABBA but my dad and I have season Tix to OSU Beaver baseball and all the kids have walk up music when they come to bat....Steven Kwan a few years back had this song as his walk up.....kid was a stud, and all around good dude so it was actually pretty cool and unique....I'd say like 90% of the kids have either hip hop or country

I just added and dropped Kwan in a dynasty baseball league. His K/BB ratios are outstanding and he showed a bit of power this year.

I like him to get a shot in Cleveland next year.  Mercado and Zimmer are JAGs.  But I have too many OFs already.

I would have participated in JML’s U2 song ranking thread if I could have omitted their last 4 albums from ‘04 on.

As I mentioned in my one selection in this draft today, U2 was probably my favorite band from ‘83-‘88. Their last four albums have tarnished their overall catalogue quite a bit.

@Eephus that Giant/Dodger series is going to be nuts. Most combined regular season wins ever in a playoff series. And it’s the first ####### round.

I haven't rolled the dice for a while so used them to pick a random album from the Acclaimed top 3000 list.

NP:  Mary Margaret O'Hara - Miss America

ETA:  she's Catherine O'Hara's sister

Re-Arranged is the Limp B jam

Break Stuff is fun

The rest is for the dustbin of history

3 Dolla was a pretty tough ### record at the time though

Any thoughts on the Woodstock 99 documentary on HBO?   No much new there, jagoffs being jagoffs from the top down

The late 80s early 90s were the golden age of tribute albums and the Cohen tribute  I'm Your Fan was one of the best.  Sadly, it's not on Spotify like a lot of records of this ilk.

There's a playlist on YouTube that follows the European running order that demotes REM to side 2.
R.E.M.'s version of "First We Take Manhattan" is a gem - but there's a ton of good stuff on there. Disappointing that one never made it to Spotify.

16.02 - Britney Spears - "Toxic" (#114)

Feel like this will pair well with Mariah and Whitney.

I will mercifully end the Mexican standoff between me and @Ramsay Hunt Experience in the 101-125 category with this one.  While I like the other option fine, I greatly prefer this one and have had it in mind since long before some people were Britney-bashing earlier in the thread.

I feel like this song is only in here because of the music video.  The sheer bodysuit.  The neon red hair.  Tyson Beckford.  What's not to like?  But the song is also an underappreciated pop gem.
Like you, I was OK however it shook out. I like the Mark Robson remix a bit better, but this is definitely Britney’s most interesting pop hit.

Well let’s see here. There’s the whiny Coldplay song that the wife loves- no ####### way am I selecting a Coldplay song. Then there’s that Eric Church tune about Springsteen- so lame. I kinda like the Cardi B thing, but there’s also a minor disco classic. Screw it give me the minor disco classic.

Sylvester “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)”

this was another tune blasting out of a car radio outside my pad the other day... it's legit. I would've been very happy to take it a bunch of rounds ago.

and Coldplay- I genuinely like their first couple records, still listen to a bunch of tracks off both. but I'm flummoxed RS didn't pick one of their earlier hits like The Scientist (or why not Yellow) instead of whatever drivel that tune is.

This draft has been very entertaining but I'm ready for it to end......it's like drafting that 4th string RB in 20th round
