**NFC Divisional Round - Rams at Eagles** (-6, 42.5) 3:00 on NBC (1 Viewer)

An excellent pass rushing team against a team that’s supposed to have a great line. Should be an interesting match-up up front when the Eagles have the ball.
Yeah that's what we said going into the SB a few years ago.

Then the field conditions happened.

Not sure if snow is worse/better than a days-soaked fresh sod, but my guess is the results are going to be similar for the pass rush - guys gonna be slipping and sliding to the ground.

Except this time its the full weather, not just the field, which is also going to greatly inhibit what Rams do and accentuate what the Eagles do on offense.

At least this is what I think lol

Looks like there’s a high probability of moderate to at times heavy snow during the game Sunday afternoon in Philly

Seeing up to 6 inches of snow projected now.
SNOW BOWL SNOW BOWL SNOW BOWL

btw did you ever hear that story about snowballs and Santa?

No, but I was at that PHI/DET snow game.
Legendary game to attend!

I feel lucky to have attended the Saquon 2-5-5 game this year, hoping for a mix of that and the Shady game this weekend!

Don't get me started, I was supposed to go to the Rams game this year. Plans fell through.
Ha that happened to me last year.

Eagles play the Chargers out here next year, so you get another shot at it!

10-11 mph winds expected on Sunday. PFF estimates this affects a QBs completion percentage by nearly 2% and shortens the YPA by 0.30. Running the ball becomes that much more important.

I'd sure love to see some screens or quick slants to AJ Brown. Its wild to me how little they use him in that way. He's a RAC monster, and I feel like when they run those plays, its more often to Smith or Goedert, with the caveat that Goedert did a lot with his last week.

AJB has to be the most underutilized game winner in recent history. Philly fans I know get it bc they understand Hurts' limitations but they're also a bit frustrated watching underneath passes go to Smith/Goedert/Calcaterra.

From your lips to Kellen Moore's ears. I say the same thing, and then like last week Goedert gets a screen and scores.

Hard to get a pass run when the other team runs the ball. So what LA does best is neutralized by what Philly does best on offense. Philly's offense is a terrible matchup for LA's defense.
I think its arguable if the Rams even have a great pass rush in the first place. They were 20th in pressures and 21st in sacks this season. I don't wanna give them too much credit for Darnold being a deer in the headlights last week.

Well the Rams do have 4 DI/ED who had at least 50 pressures, which 2 or 3 more than most of the teams left. Verse was tied for the NFL lead with 84 (Hutch had 45 in 5 g lol).

BAL is the only final 8 team with 3; DET has only 1, WAS none. I *think* the other 4 have 2 each.

What the Rams do well is generate a pass rush without blitzing. They only blitzed Darnold 9 times but generated 7 pressures and 3 sacks.

But whole other matter trying to do that vs the Eagles OL. Best OT tandem in the game, and nothing resembling a weak link.

There have been 7 instances where a RB had 200 or more yards against a team and then faced that team on the playoffs. All 7 finished with less than 100 yards (Adrian Peterson had 99). 3 hall of famers (Peterson, Barry Sanders, Marshall Faulk), 2 solid RBs (Knowshon Moreno, James Brooks) , and 2 others (Jay Ajayi and the world famous Jonas Gray).

It's just some random stat but Im interested to see if Barkley ends that. I have to believe he gets there.

AJB was 5th in YPG this year and made his 3rd straight All Pro team. If he didn't miss 4+ games he would have been right at where his yardage and TDs were the past 2 seasons.

AJB never made an All Pro Team without having Jalen Hurts as his QB.

Just fwiw.

Gonna say it again here, but not only does the fact that the Eagles OL have a huge advantage over the Rams as far as OL vs DL

The snow/weather, much like SB57, is going to greatly mitigate these smaller/fast pass rush guys' ability to bend/keep their footing.

The Vikes threw 40 times and ran 22. I expect those numbers to be reversed for Philly.

I say this to whoever is sitting next to me during every game. Every. Freaking. Game. Its about as close to an indefensible play as there is and gets at least 15 yards every time they throw it. Why they don't run that 4-5 times until it gets stopped, is beyond me.

Rams Dline is small and fast. Great for pass rush, not so great for stopping the run. Eagles Oline are great at pass pro but they are absolute road graders in the run game. Think Eagles come out running Saquon obviously, but also Jalen a few times in their first drive just to set the tone and put it in the minds of every defender that Jalen is a threat. I'll also be shocked if Saquon+Hurts+Gainwell have less than 35-40 runs.

Oh I know. We got into OT against them Week 1 and they said "OK enough playing with our food, let's just run Montgomery down their throat until they stop it." They didn't. 10 yard pass to Gibbs & 55 on the ground - 7 plays, 65 yards, walk off TD.

Yep, that's what I expect from the Eagles for most of the game.

Hurts is an ugly game manager, he's really one of the most ugliest QB's as far as his play in the NFL on a playoff team. There is nothing elite when it comes to Jalen Hurts. But good and ugly Jalen Hurts is a lot better than bad and ugly Jalen Hurts when it comes to how PHI plays football. It's tough, physical, punishing football. They eventually wear the opponent out. Yet against the Rams, turnovers, penalties, and Sirianni being Sirianni, that's going to be the difference. It's going to have be a a huge Saquon second half to pull it past two scores plus to ice this game. But Hurts is still and ugly QB.
Since the bye, when Hurts plays the whole game, the Eagles are undefeated. so...
Hurts not being an elite runner for a QB is a pretty bold statement too.

Hes a hater. Butthurt cause the 49ers were a complete failure

But Purdy looked good losing.
To be fair, Purdy had almost nothing to do with the 49ers losing. He was the guy keeping them competitive. Both Hurts and Purdy are pro bowl level QBs. Probably 2 of the 4 best QBs in the NFC.
If I could post a scrot here to show you what I am reading since I posted this - which I had captured - it only shows why this site has stale takes all the way back to when I first logged in way back in 2006. It's not even worth a creditable response, rather, I am just scribbling this on a napkin placed under my cocktail as a placeholder until Hurts plays another ugly game that has Eagles fans twisted like he always twists them, because they are Eagles fan.

Consider me enamored of rookies then. They’ve got Jared Verse, who has been a beast, and Braden Fiske, who led all the rookies in sacks through Week 16 or 17. Not sure how that isn’t the beginnings of a great pass rush. They’ve also got Kobie Turner and Byron Young.

From the assessment before the MN game on NFL.com

“[T]he Rams defense is peaking and primed to make a statement of its own. When last these teams met, L.A.’s youth movement was more used to getting moved. From Weeks 1-14, the Rams allowed 25.5 points per game (24th in the NFL), and in Week 8 they were carved up by Sam Darnold. But during the past month of action, they’ve allowed 13.5 points per game, second-best during that span. The turnaround has been fueled largely by first- and second-year players. The team’s top-four sack-getters -- Braden Fiske (8.5), Kobie Turner (8.0), Byron Young (7.5) and Jared Verse(4.5) -- were all drafted in the past two years. Rookie safeties Kamren Kinchens and Jaylen McCollough share the team lead in interceptions with four. Among NFL rookies, the Rams defense ranks first or tied for first with 312 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 30 QB hits, five forced fumbles and eight picks. The group is turning the corner at exactly the right time. The all-important question is if it will continue under the bright playoff lights."

Safe to say it did. I think it’s safe to say that the top rookie sack-getter and guys like Turner, Young, and Verse help comprise an “excellent” pass rushing team. Maybe “excellent” was too much, but I’m giving myself the benefit of the doubt here.

Eagles fans should be confident that they will beat the Rams. But some are so overconfident that they simply don't think it's possible for the Rams to win. The Eagles SHOULD win comfortably but the Rams absolutely can win this game.

I'm a Lions fan and the above applies to us as well.

I am pretty confident that the Eagles will win by something like eight points. I think there is a small chance that the Eagles blow out the Rams. I think there’s an equally small chance that the Rams beat the Eagles.

On paper, we should win. Intangibles like rest time, traveling across the country, adverse weather conditions, etc. All seem to favor the Eagles. That being said, I would not be totally shocked. If the Rams upset the Eagles, I would be surprised though.

See when you compartmentalize it like this, it's best to look at the opponents. None of the opponents in the last month ran the ball more than 22 times (excluding the Seahawk, but the Rams rested their starters). Comparing how the Rams D fared against those teams and how the Rams D will fare against a team that was #1 in rush attempts this season is apples and oranges.

Oh and the opposite side of that coin is the Rams offense over that same time period has only scored 17.25 points per game.

Its such a bad matchup for the rams. That tiny dline is going to get run over. Even if we ran gainwell 20.times . Amazing some.people hate the eagles so much they dont wamt to see it. Stop the hate and look at the numbers. Its staring you in the face. They have been a bottom 5 run def all year. We ran for 300 yards last time on them at their place. They beat an overachieving vikings team and now suddenly they are going to win a snow game on the road in philly? Gtfo. Unless the nfl script writers deem it eagles should win by 2 scores

An excellent pass rushing team against a team that’s supposed to have a great line. Should be an interesting match-up up front when the Eagles have the ball.

Excluding the Giants game in week 18, they haven't been under 30 rush attempts since week 4 and have been over 40 multiple times. I'm expecting about 35+ rush attempts tomorrow.

I think Jared Verse is awesome. He's the DROY as far as I'm concerned. I also think Kobie Turner is pretty good. I'm not as impressed by Young or Fiske, who I see as very one-dimensional role players. So, its the excellent I take issue with. They aren't bad, I just think they aren't great either.

The 4-game stretch also has some holes to pick apart, I think. They shut down a very banged up 49ers team in a monsoon, a broken Jets offense, and a Cards offense without James Conner, who is their centerpiece. Despite that, they could have lost all 3 of those games. Deebo dropped a wide-open TD, Rodgers fumbled resulting in a potential 10-point swing, and the Cards turned it over twice inside the Rams 15. In my opinion, those were all unforced errors. Things that the Eagles don't do.

They've done a nice job with drafting, I'm not arguing against that, but I think too much credit is being given for some really good matchups. I don't think Hurts will be under much pressure at all, and I could the Rams DL, especially Young (who will mostly see Lane Johnson) just getting pushed around.

As an aside, all of Verse, Turner, Fiske, and Young were extremely old rookies. Verse was 23, Fiske and Turner were 24, and Young was 25. I sometimes wonder how much of a correlation there is between older rookies and being able to be instant starters, with a tradeoff of them maybe already being or being near as good as they'll get?

Anyway, in my opinion, this is the easiest game of the week to pick.

This one feels like the Eagles should roll easily. Las Vegas suggests 6.5 but it feels like more. The team is way more talented, especially on OL. Especially with warm weather team having a draining 2 weeks traveling far to a cold out door stadium. Could get ugly for Rams.

Just guessing but I don't think anyone wants to see your scrot.

Wrong. Rams win by 75.

The least exciting game of the week.

Rams challenge a bit. Maybe even get an early lead. I see Philly keeping it very vanilla. Eventually Barkley gets going and lead the Eagles to a victory. They are clearly the better team and roster. Hurts does just enough to spread the ball and make enough 3rd down conversions.

I see a low scoring game for some reason.
20-13 Birds.

I'm not arrogant enough to say anyone's predictions are "wrong" before the game.

But that seems like a lot.

I think it'll be more than 7 likely but I agree with you that's the right way for them to play it. They are clearly the better team and don't need to take any chances.

@Deamon, don't waste the moderators time like you did by reporting this post as trolling. There's absolutely nothing worth reporting about that post. And save the PMs on the same topic. That's hardly a hot take. Please be better and try to contribute real discussion, and drop the "Nah, I actually think 110-30 final score." Thanks in advance.

Nah, I don't do the reverse jinx thing that 'others' do every eagles game by saying how big Philly will win.

Rams by 80.

I do think it will be 110-30... please don't tell people to drop their predictions. Thanks in advance.

Agreed. That seems to me like the key. One of if not the best back on the league and arguably the best OL in the league. (Although technically we say #2). https://www.footballguys.com/article/offensive-line-rankings But leaning on the run game seems like the answer.

It's how I see it as well.

For the QBs in this game, which team has the edge do you think?

Having an interesting discussion with a good friend that's a big Eagles fan on this.

Stafford is the better QB in a vacuum. That is not close in my opinion. Rams offensive talent is not close to Philly.

Hurts is in the better situation, is a good to sometimes great, game manager and plays well within the construct of the Eagle’s offense - which is clearly superior to the Rams.

Hurts is a health risk this week. Might be the only way the Rams might win.
