***Official 2025 Pro Cycling Thread*** - This year a Grand Prize!!! (1 Viewer)

no hills for Pogi to run away on (unlikely to win in a sprint)

Paris-Roubaix race director says the cobbles will wear him down

#salty

will be rainy until about 3pm so that’ll make it fun
A Colbrelli type day. Oh boy.

On a side note I may miss watching it live. Thinking of a long bike trip this weekend if I can convince the wife to let me go.
I am going to miss it too, LAX with my son in the AM, then a shakedown ride for my mid-week Bikepacking trip in the PM
Peacock might have the replay ready by then… :pickle:

Current PR team doesn’t have MvdP or pogi. :lmao:
Betting on the weather winning? :p

I have one of the two. Though I would love to see Wout get the upset. He has been looking better, so it's not completely crazy that he could be there at the end.

Stage Race Championship sheet updated. Also, table of monument winners - dang it's two sided right now.

ETA: Wout on cobbles training ride. Serious skillz there.
cool links. Big Tom boonen! And if that happens in the arenburg(sp?) huge crash. The race organizers changed the entrance to that section. There’s a weird right/u-turn/right to force them to slow down.

MVdP dropped with a mechanical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nevermind, Bob Roll proving why he should be put of to pasture once again.

If you ask me, this race is overrated. Just a little too much luck for my liking. Seems like the strategy of the day was to wait for the opposition to have an issue and attack them.

next stage race is Tour de Romandie 🇨🇭 which begins April 29 (2 weeks fm Tue)

April 1-day Superclasico races remaining:

15
. 2025-04-20 10:00:00 Amstel Gold Race Cat 2
16
. 2025-04-23 10:00:00 La Flèche Wallonne Cat 2

At the same time, it's pretty clear the strongest guy won the race. If MVDP stays upright, he wins that race almost everytime. Alpecin preps for that race all year and trying to helicopter in and win it, isn't the recipe for success (it seems like UAE basically slapped some 32mm tires on and said go ride).

Agreed, just would to like to have seen Mads up front making it interesting.

It was an unusual year for that. Usually it's due to an attack, which lately has been MVdP riding off. But we've had years with sprints, (Colbrelli), with late breaks (Terpstra, from a 12 man group), etc. Just lately he so good, like Cancellara, that if he doesn't break down it's hard to stop him.

Next big one is Fleche Wallonne, which is a totally different beast. No MvDP, for sure. The Mur de Huy is the best 3 minutes in cycling.

Friday - Sunday race schedule this week for Superclasico

The Brabantse Pijl is open now - 12 PRT and only 8 WT squads - last year it was 11 & 11 - even AG2R, who won the last two, isn't here

Remco makes his season debut after recovering from training injuries. SQS has said his season will be aiming at peaking for the TdF and results are secondary.

WvA, Benoot and Florian V are the other top Belgiums, while Powless the lone top American

Amstel Gold is Sunday

After reqatching Laterne Rouge's tactical breakdown of the women's race, I think I'm downplaying what would have happened if Mads had been there as it probably would have neutralized the race some. Maybe Mads and Tadej work with Alepcin in that scenario, but the more right tactical move would have been to sit in and make Alpecin either work or let the race come back together. I think they still ultimately finish the same 1-2-3 (I think Tadej can really only drop MDVP on climbs like in Flanders or if he's just bonks), but for as good as the race was, you're definitely correct that it would have been even more interesting with that dynamic. While Flanders sets up well for Tadej, Roubaix sets up perfectly for MDVP.

I do sort of wonder how well the the new 5VR handles given what I saw on Madpec's just posted Youtube build (they sent frames to some reviewers). The back end geometry (at least on the frame he got, they may send UAE one-off frames) has been slightly altered to accomodate a new hanger (if I'm remembering correctly), which he thought was 100% for marketing and would hurt performance. Both it and the new Trek (Chris Miller really hated it) seem sort of underwhelming for the money (or let me rephrase and say it certainly seems like the Aeroad is better bike).

Hard no on seat masts.

End of Ronde van Limburg was way too twisty on narrow roads with sidewalks. I made the link point to the time where riders swing too wide on a right turn and do battle with a fence.

Saw that earlier. Man, what is it this year with cyclists not going the right way?

Setting a squad from Cork!!! Did Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, and Bkarney Castle today as we drive from Killarney to Cork. 3 days left in Ireland. Don’t want to leave.
What type of tariff do we have to pay to bring you home?
Good question. Coming back to the states through Toronto. The border closed yet? 🤷‍♂️
