Peterson charged with reckless or negligent injury to a child? (1 Viewer)

Yes, the state can pick up charges regardless of the parents decision to do so or not. There's gonna be a lot to filter through with this story, it may take a while.

ITT people who can't tell the difference between a spank and a beating....

If AD left marks on the kid that showed up after days, he went too far. We need more details though.
Agree with this. A spanking is one thing, beating someone quite another. But not enough facts at this point.
what were you all spanked with pillows or some ####? a hand, belt, flyswatter, switch all left marks
No, NO........ Not the cushy pillow !!!!!
My Mom always tried to use her hand to spank me, but I always managed to block it. They threatened me with a switch many times, but never followed through. Do I need to report my Mom to the authorities? But I grew up a responsible citizen IMHO.

Guys, nobody is against smacking your kids ### when needed, but the use of a weapon to do it is wrong.
Use of a weapon? It's a long, thin, stringing branch that has some whip action. Other than stinging a butt, it is not a weapon. We're not talking about hitting with a thick tree branch.

ALso, I've never gotten the switch or given the switch to my kids.

I'm reading reports that it wasn't even his kid. Don't know if these reports hold any merit but if AP was beating random children with a stick this won't end well.

I think the term switch is what is freaking people out. If it was a common word like belt or spatula it would come across differently

If Goddell has even one ounce of dignity left in his lying ###, he will suspend Peterson immediately.

playing against him this week.

I remember when my mom chased me around the house with a paddle. I could usually outrun her. That probably wouldn't work with AP.

And remember...a Grand Jury just found enough evidence to indict him/charge him. It's not an indication of guilt or innocence.

Assuming nothing out of the ordinary in the discipline of the child, if he were to somehow go to trial (unlikely), I have a hard time believing they'd find 12 jurors to convict him, since half of them would remember far worse spankings they took routinely as kids.

Still lots to find out though. Should be an interesting weekend. :)

at worst, 1 game suspension, but i think this will take a while to figure out. Maybe the kid was beating up AP and it was self defense?

kid---> :deadhorse: <----AP

This is what you get for always getting injured during the FF playoffs AP!!!

Sources connected to Peterson tell us ... the alleged victim is a male child from Minnesota who was visiting Adrian back in May at AP's home in Texas.

We're told the child returned home to his mother in Minn. who noticed injuries and took the child to a doctor. A short time later, the doctor contacted authorities in Texas to report Adrian.

Child Protective Services confirms they are working on a case involving Peterson and say the alleged victim is an 11-year-old boy.

Peterson was indicted in Montgomery County for reckless or negligent injury to a child, this according to Fox 26.

He is screwed. In a big big way, he is screwed.
Yep one thing worse than women abuse is child abuse

Between personal attitudes toward parental discipline, and Asiata/McKinnon vultures, this thread is a total cluster.

As a Texas resident, this case sounds pretty weak so far. The fact that there is actually debate here regarding the tolerance of AP's actions means any correlation to the severity of the McDonald or Rice case are way off base.

Personally do I think AP crossed the line? Maybe, depends on the severity of the injuries. But Goddell is IMO overstepping his bounds if he suspends him before any legal actions are taken here.

Doesn't the NFL let the legal process run it's course before they hand down a suspension?
AP didn't pratice yesterday, I would guess he has to turn himself in to law enforcement in TX. I wouldn't shocked if the Vikings give him Sunday off to get this taken care of

No, I think what is disturbing people is that there were marks left days afterwards.

I got spanked with wooden spoons, paddles, etc and I never once had bruises. If you're leaving bruises that can be seen days later, that's not disciplining, that's beating.

So is this going to continue where a player will do something months ago, but then they are all of a sudden subject to new punishments that JUST went into effect?

Sorta seems, ya know, dumb.

So what new rule they going to put into effect next year that will cause guys to get suspended from it, not knowing they will be subject to huge suspensions.

Not condoning the behavior but seriously, what is the point of making a policy when it will just be changed on a whim anyway?

Incredibly sad considering AdP lost a son last year who was beaten to death. :(

Man accused of killing Adrian Peterson’s son now charged with attacking the boy’s motherPosted by Michael David Smith on June 25, 2014, 1:59 PM EDT

Joseph Robert Patterson, the man accused of killing Adrian Peterson’s son last year, has been free on bail since October. But now Patterson is locked up again, accused of attacking the mother of the 2-year-old boy he allegedly killed last year.

The Argus-Leader reports that Patterson has been arrested on kidnapping and assault charges for reportedly attacking the mother of 2-year-old Tyrese Doohen.

Patterson is still facing the charges of murder and child abuse in the death of Tyrese. He had been living with and dating Tyrese’s mother at the time of the boy’s death.

Patterson, who had been ordered not to have contact with Tyrese’s family, is expected to appear in court this afternoon.

That's actually a really good point. How much does the very recent/current Ray Rice situation impact (1) how quickly Goodell acts on this, if any, and (2) how severe the punishment is?
