Peterson charged with reckless or negligent injury to a child? (4 Viewers)

This sets a horrible precedent going forward for the NFL, it's teams, and it's players. Peterson was accused and indicted of a crime, and has yet to go to trial for this crime. The media, the NFL's sponsors, and local government have forced the Vikings hand and spared the NFL from having to take the responsibility of making a decision. The NFL never even issued a statement!

What happens to the next accusation on a player? Does he get barred from team activities as well?
Sets a horrible precedent for what? That child abusers can't play in the NFL?

The next player will be barred as well provided there is enough public information and the crime is severe enough. I swear some of you act like they are going to start suspending people jaywalking.
That is absolutely a horrible precedent. The NFL is not a court. It does not represent the best interests of the country. It has zero moral authority. But hey, lets crucify AP instead of your local representatives.

The organization and the league didn't make this decision. Sure, the Vikings did after the fact - after their sponsors spoke up, after ESPN buried them, after the big NFL sponsors spooked them and the league. THAT is what made this decision. Because the public and the media felt so strongly about the charges against Peterson. What happens when the general public and media feels strongly about another issue? I don't like where this can lead us in the future.

Should the Vikings have seen this coming and made the decision to begin with? Probably. That would be different though.
Consumer's voice was heard. This is how is how free market capitalist society works. Public pressure made them act and that is beautiful thing.

What kind of things are you worried about? Please name some of these hypotheticals that this sets a horrible precedent for.
Actually, the consumers are generally the people watching the games. And guess what, the rating were up this week despite all the people claiming they were quitting the NFL. Go figure.

This is BS. Whatever happened to having a backbone. Your employee (and fellow American - let's not forget) really needed his team and league to stand by him through this very difficult time and the fold like an envelope. Why - because it was easy to do.

I am more of a fan of the other side of handling this - the it is our league and we will not fold side. Remember when Martha Burke was campaigning on forcing Augusta to allow women members? The Masters went commercial-less for a few years and the group did not fold to the righteous do-gooders.... Roger Goodell is a *****! I hope he gets fired!

Let's not forget that the reason that the media and public was in such an uproar over this is because some unethical clerk or lawyer decided to get paid and release the pictures of a 4 year old boy.

Under normal circumstances this evidence does not get released because most people don't care about non famous people.

The way I heard it, the boy went in for a regular doctor's appointment and on examination the welts became obvious. The damage was done who knows how many days prior. If you or I or anyone sends their kid to the doctor's office with welts that appear to look like a whipping, we'd get a call from the local sheriff and Child Protective Services.

I don't see how anyone could be surprised by this with sponsors being upset and the political/image damage it would do to the NFL after the Rice fiasco.

I am just saying that most people accused of a crime such as this can go to work while they await trial. Peterson has been found guilty in a court of public opinion. Not saying that the public opinion is wrong.

The Union gotta step in, CBA specifically allows a the player to continue working while his case his processed.

Deactivation and Injury lists are not to be used as a form of punishment.

well, apparently zygi wilf and the vikings organization are surprised. im like just flabbergasted that they actually thought they could put him back on the field and there wouldnt be a massive uproar. and to announce it with "radisson" all over the background and not expect any sort of issue with their sponsorship? its just the height of arrogance and lack of awareness. they really botched this beyond belief.

It is not a right to play in the NFL. If the NFL doesn't want #######s in the league, they have the right to punish them. They just haven't been doing it enough. Maybe things are finally starting to change for the better.

First they suspend wife beaters and child abusers. Next thing you know they're going to start letting gay dudes in the league. This isn't my pappy's NFL!!1

The Union gotta step in, CBA specifically allows a the player to continue working while his case his processed.

Deactivation and Injury lists are not to be used as a form of punishment.
You can place any player on the reserved exempt list and there is not anything the NFLPA can do about it. Rice was suspended, ADP was placed on a list that si only granted by the commissioner. This is how Baltimore should of handled Rice to keep the NFLPA from stepping in.

And this is how Hardy should be dealt with. I feel less strongly about McDonald, though.

Vikings...man, how embarrassing.

Once again the NFL reacting to the reaction and not the action. At least the end result is correct, but these guys have to get their priorities straight.

That's not true, the PA will challenge why hes on the list... being that AP isn't convicted of anything yet it will probably be appealed.

the reason the media is in an uproar can all be traced back to Goodell suspending Ray rice for two games. All this nonsense over the last two week can be traced back to that single mistake.

Some would say being indicted and going through a legal preceding for child abuse does seem to be a reason one be place on a exempt list for extreme conduct detrimental to the league. Thats just one mans opinion

You can give up to 4 games. The Eagles did it with TO.

He wasnt suspended. he was placed on an exempt list. Big difference.

Having a new commissioner would help with that. The current one has been haphazard and look where it's gotten them.

Something to do with religious freedoms maybe? This general public/media/consumer is usually a very christian majority. While this is a hypothetical, it is something that creeped into my mind.
Or what about a gay player like Michael Sam? If the Rams sponsors had started pulling deals, would they have cut him? Thankfully this is an issue we've made huge progress on and don't have to worry about something like this, but the religious aspect is something that does worry me.
Seems like your FF roster worries you.

Frankly my roster can't afford to hold AP while dealing with injuries to Jamaal Charles, Ryan Mathews, and Jordan Reed.

Careful what you wish for. Colin Cowherd was pimping Condelezza Rice as commisioner and I cannot imagine a worse choice than her.

Really dislike politicians trying to force their opinions on private business. And I won't even get into a beer company preaching on morals, that is rich.
Don't forget a sneaker company reliant on paying children a dollar a day whileHonoring joe paterno taking a hard line on things
Can we got more examples of completely unrelated ills in the world? it is silly to think but you are essentially advocating for these companies to not be more responsible because they aren't responsible enough. The people have spoken, which is so American whether you like it or not.Funny that you should mention Joe Paterno, because its the same type of head in the sand attitude that allowed the atmosphere in which a child rapist could conduct business on a college campus for 15+ years.
I am unimpressed by corporate dog piling when it's safe and convenient, and a non committal condemnation at that. And with respect to it being "unrelated", at least in the case of AB and domestic violence and NIke and opinions on child care given a very checkered past, if you want to jump in the fray of this debate, congrats and welcome. Now can we look inside of YOUR houses?

I've made clear early in this thread what Peterson did is reprehensible but every single corporation connected with this matter, apart for the VIkes at least last week, have lead from behind.

What is the endgame here? To punish Peterson or help children?

I would assume the latter, I would HOPE the latter, and if that's the case, and you're a corporation, let's start addressing what role your product does in harming kids

Maybe its been discussed in the prior pages, but does anyone else find it comical and hypocritical that Anesier Busch is telling the NFL to get its act together?

That Adrian Peterson, such a charitable fellow.. what a guy

Outside the Lines examined IRS forms for Peterson's charity for the years 2008 through 2011 and found discrepancies between the All Day Foundation's stated mission of helping at-risk children and where much of its grants landed.

For the foundation's first four years, 2008 through 2011, its single largest beneficiary was Straight From The Heart Ministries (a ministry devoted to opposing gay rights) . More than 50 percent ($207,081 out of $414,130 in grants) was given by the All Day Foundation to Straight From The Heart. More recent IRS forms were not available for review.

I personally believe the Ravens saw the tape and did what they could to keep it from Goodell to save Rice and it will blow up in their face in time. That is just my thought. What did Goodell do wrong here, we do not know if he was forcing something behind the scenes or if his hands were tied on this by the CBA and lawyers were telling him to lay low. He put him on a commissioner permission list so obviously the commish was involved, the owners are the issue here.

People just want someone to suffer and someone to blame for everything because everyone thinks they should have a say in everything. Commissioner is the face to blame right now.

Could you imagine her running the NFL? God help us all.

Will AP play at all this year?
I think it depends on the record. You won't see him for a month in my opinion. If they are 1-5 at that point, it probably isn't worth the trouble. 3-3 and fans will be clamouring for him in minny and this will have died down by then. At 1-5 though, it's easy to take a stand.

The question is, how will he be after time off (anything more than 3 weeks considering he's not around the team).
