QB Daniel Jones, MIN (1 Viewer)

I spot started Jones this week for the first time ever. Started him over Murray. Matchups, analytics and last weeks numbers screamed good game today against a bad Panthers defense.
Nothing personal man, but your dead to me. Ha ha
We all learn this lesson eventually
Except fantasy football is the one thing in life we just don't learn. The stove is hot. We learn early in life not to touch it. In fantasy football, when the stove is hot we think we can touch it just a little and be okay. Ha ha

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said he “would guess” Daniel Jones “will never play another down” for the Giants.

He pointed at the tonal shift that Brian Daboll had in yesterday’s press conference, and speculated that Daniel Jones’ $23 million injury guarantee could force the Giants to bench Jones. “Just as we saw ... Russell Wilson and Jimmy Garoppolo be benched last year, and Derek Carr the year before ... to not risk those players getting hurt, I think we’re looking at the same thing with Daniel Jones right now.” Giants GM Joe Schoen held a presser today in which he said a decision on Jones would be “based on football only,” but it’s hard to take that at face value. Drew Lock would be the starting quarterback for the Giants if Jones were to be put on ice, and we might see even uglier football ahead for the Giants after their bye if that’s the case.

Is there a worse QB in the league and a schlub who literally had 6 years to prove himself? Letting Barkley go and hitching wagon to this guy should get the GM fired. What a joke.

Finally, a worse QB than Tim Tebow!

Daniel Jones sure got the dumb/sad look down perfectly after watching Eli Manning, it's just unfortunate he didn't learn anything about reading a defense.

Agreed. The future looks bright for Jones with the surrounding talent. But we also said the same thing about Mayfield at this point last year, so it’s still a wait and see thing.
Unless Daniel Jones spends the next off season shooting every commercial known to man, lobbying for his incompetent guy as head coach, eating everything in sight, and running his mouth, Daniel Jones will likely not regress like Baker Mayfield did.
Interesting, going back to random pages in threads like these. FTR, don't play FF anymore, and we've all been wrong, so no offense to anyone.

The Jameis Winston thread is the best, btw. There were those who kept going to the mat for that guy.

That was really a Baker Mayfield post. Before he bounced around the league a few times. Baker did all of those things. That he’s turned it around is no small thing.

My goodness, just skimming but pages 8-13 are hilarious. I haven't got to the hangers-on parts, which should be good. I'll pick it up some other time maybe, it's entertaining for sure.

I forgot about the nickname, "Danny Dimes" btw. That aged about as well as parts of the middle of this thread did.

Jones looks like he needs a new team. He has flashed multiple times over his career, but then has some games (like last week) where he plays poorly. The play where he choose not to pass to his first option who was wide open really stands out. Maybe a change of coaches/scheme can put some life in him. It has happened with Geno, Baker, Russ, and a few others.

Amazingly 250 million people that have never played football could see what the NYG GM could not. Jones is not a quality starting NFL QB and never has been. But hey, they got Barkley still ... oh, wait a tick.

If you own any shares of Dallas, you want Daniel Jones. He's an upgrade over Rush and Lance.
I wonder if Jones wants to join Dallas. To play vs the Giants on Thanksgiving.

REVENGE

Obviously the surprise is they are taking the cap hit all at once, was not even sure they had the space for it.

My next thought, as I'm a self-centered fantasy fanatic, was maybe my best ball teams which had Jones and are down to one QB left might have a shot of getting a QB back in action. But then more I thought on that it seems doubtful.

Wish the guy well wherever he goes. He's all class and I got tremendous respect for the way he ran the ball this year coming off his injuries and his precarious standing with the team. On top of that he has to deal with people taking shots at him all day, mainly over his contract, as if they would not have taken the money.

flat out released in the middle of the year. what a loser
Not sure he is a loser, but the first half of your sentence is true. First round draft pick, no off field issues, had stretches of decent play, and made more money than most will during their lifetime. We have different criteria for the word loser apparently.

i hear you but im struggling to remember another top 5 qb pick being released in the middle of a season because of how poor he plays.
so compared to every other starting qb in the league, he is a loser

he was released because he requested it

yah, the GM needs to go here. This is a classic case of Team MisManagement. They have mis managed the team for far too long. Barkley is just one example of this. Granted, it does not look like the team was going to be competitive for some time and the shelf life of a RB is short, so there is the question of whether keeping Barkley would have been truly helpful in the long run....

The guy is a class act, worked his way back from an ACL tear after a solid 2022 season. May not be cut out to be a starting QB in this league, but he wouldn’t be the first high draft pick to fail. I actually could see him successfully resurfacing as a decent starter down the line in a different system.

Sam Darnold and Geno Smith (at the age of 32) too.

In a few years, Daniel Jones (or Mac Jones or Kenny Pickett or Bryce Young but probably not Zach Wilson) could have a similar story.

He had an injury guarantee of $23mm or something like that. Because of that, they weren't going to play him or even have him doing anything of note in practice. So this makes sense all around.

From everything I read, he's a class act and a great teammate. He'll land somewhere and may even have a Geno / Baker type second act.

Sure, you can blame Daniel Jones. But I'd go upstream and place most of the blame on Mara, Schoen and Daboll. On hard knocks Giants leadership mentioned having to upgrade the offensive line so that Daniel could have a chance. The upgrade looked minimal Daniel this year was one of the top 5 sacked QBs.
