I would assume that once there's a large settlement on the table, the lawyer that took this on a contingency basis has met the bar and if it goes to court the client is risking having to shell out more to the lawyer percentage wise if they don't clear the settlement offer amount.

Urine and blood samples were taken during rape exam on 12/07/2012, however they were not sent to the lab until 11/15/2013 - almost a year later.

Florida State has added additional security to protect Winston on athletic trips, athletic director Stan Wilcox said in a statement to the paper, but it raises the question of how much is enough with an athlete as high-profile as Winston.

Antonor Winston said the latest incident has made it clear to his son that the spotlight on him is growing only larger, and he hopes it alerts FSU that additional attention is needed.

"We hope so," Antonor Winston said. "Not only him. I think it should show the university and us, I think we probably kind of dropped the ball on that a little bit."

"It's just a different standard for (Jameis) and Johnny (Manziel)," says Antonor Winston. "He's just got to endure, just make better decisions and he's just got to endure that."

I don't think that is always true. Sometimes the girl who is raped is telling the truth and the rapist is lying, and sometimes the guy accused of rape is telling the truth and the so called victim is lying. And when the truth is in the middle, it is probably rarely close to the exact middle. It is probably 80% to 90% skewed toward one side or the other.

In this case, she said she was drugged and was therefore raped. He said they had consensual sex. Either she was given a drug or she wasn't. If she was, she was raped as her ability to consent was impaired. If she wasn't, then she has lied about a key point and she most likely consented to sex and regretted it afterward.

I haven't brushed off anything regarding the rape accusations, but as of now that's all they are and all they ever will be. People will hate him because he was accused. He can't change that now. People hate Kobe Bryant and Ben Roethlisberger too, but they are still highly successful athletes in the aftermath.

As far as "thefts" go you can't be serious.

Laugh it up. I would definitely take Jameis for the next five seasons on his rookie deal over Cam considering the impending franchise tag and then mega-deal he'll be signing.

Winston's 18 picks last year rank as the fifth-most in college football over the past seven seasons. Interestingly, an NFL evaluator said his team's trait-based tool agreed with ESPN's comparison tool that Chad Henne was the closest match in terms of traits measured at the combine (which isn't to say they have similar passing skills, of course).

"If we had to pick today," Licht said Monday at a press conference, "we'd feel very comfortable making the first pick."

"It's huge. Personally, I think it's probably the biggest draft in the history of the organization," said Licht, who along with Smith is entering his second year on the job with the Bucs following a 2-14 clunker in 2014. "We've got a real chance to really put us over the top and get us to the level we think we're going to be at this year, which we think is competing for a championship. It's a great draft, and it's a great draft to have the No. 1 pick."
"We're very confident in the amount of work we've done. Maybe 25 years from now I'll write a book," Licht said. "But we feel very confident in the amount of work we've done internally, we've had work done externally through third parties, and on and on. There have been no surprises."

IF Winston isn't selected first, it may be great for him and his maturity/growth. It would be pretty humbling to know you're the most complete QB in the draft on the field, yet there are teams that aren't willing to risk taking you with your off field discretions. Licht mentioned on the radio today that contract negotiations don't happen pre-draft anymore. There isn't much they can do dollars wise. I guess there are some other things they can do with certain language, though. Hopefully there's something in there about him pursuing a baseball career...

be as clear as you want, be as convinced as you want. Maybe I'm delusional but I'm not 100% convinced Winston is the guy. and to my point, I absolutely would not be "comfortable" with picking Winston #1 overall, especially if my job was tied to his success.
