You’re right, but I’d bet the non “IR” QB room is Flacco and the two rookies. Which isn’t a horrible way to go for them.

In the mid point of this draft or so, which I think to anyone was a murky QB landscape... after the Titans, you had to my count, 3 teams that really needed a QB this year... NYG, Cleveland and the Saints... and then you can go lower and add the Steelers who are engaging Rodgers but dont really have a qb, the Raiders... Stafford is a year from retirement for the rams, so there wasn't a big landscape. He had the specter of next years class limiting aggressive commitments, so bad field for him.
So now you have an outsized personality and a story as a QB and a backup and to my mind, he sort of fell into a Tebow/Kaepernick area of... you dont want the backup QB being the biggest story on the team so he gets very easy to pass on.
Until you get to the 5th, and there's only upside as a pick and he's an easy cut if things are going sideways off the field attention wise.
Ironically though, fate took care of him, I think he landed in a good destination for himself, the volume of QBs are a story as much as him.
I think he's better most likely than a 5th rounder but I think he's basically a great backup.
Green Bay probably should have snagged him to stack with Love.

I have Sanders rated as a potential long-term starter. I get he doesn't have the best arm, but Shedeur is a gifted passer. It's not like he's a poor athlete, either. I think you can make a case he was the best pure passer in college last year and did it with swiss cheese for an OL.
When teams are starving for decent QB play and are taking guys like Kenny Pickett in the 1st round, you really have to wonder what the deal is with Sanders. Lots of GMs analyzed it and passed (whether it be talent, character, the potential for distraction, or a combination of those).
I wished Shedeur had gone somewhere with a better track record as a franchise, but it is what it is. I'm really curious to see how it shakes out.

I find it interesting how some people in the media, like Kiper and Eisen, have avoided calling out the Sanders' for their unprofessional behavior throughout the entire process. From Deion telling teams that he won't allow his son to play for some of them to Sheduer's unprofessional interviews. Even with a team like the NYG - a team he openly wanted to play for - he was unprepared and when held accountable for being unprepared, he didn't like that either showing how difficult it will be to coach him. So many red flags around this guy, but according to some, it must be collusion that he didn't get drafted until so late.

I hope you're right, my inclination is to root for him. This has been a messy run, I was a lot higher on him before Pat Shurmur got his hands on him so I dont know if he really stinks or he's had god awful coaching. I dont know what to make of a bunch on anonymous reports about him, I'm sure some are exaggerated and some are directionally correct.
I do know one thing, there's nothing more humbling than running the Browns practice squad in december so we'll see what he takes from it.

Are you considering the possibility that NFL teams had a lower grade on him than what we were told?
If a guy is rated as a 2nd or 3rd rounder by teams, and proceeds to act like a donkey for months leading up to the draft, with a PIA father, maybe it's not such a mystery.

Can I believe he was rated by nearly everyone as an early 2nd-round prospect at worst on talent, alone (which is lower than most people thought), but all the other stuff had a huge impact on his fall?
Sure, but therein lies the rub. We'll eventually know if his 5th round status was accurate.

Unpopular opinion, but hind sight analysis will be completely worthless for this guy. He earned his free fall. If he works his *** off and earns his keep, good for him. Doesn't change how he should've been valued today. He's not talented enough to be a chach. Hope he eats his humble pie.

Put me in the camp that thinks Cleveland is a poor destination for any QB ATM.
Maybe it'll be a little better if they just cut bait on Watson. I mean, what's the point of keeping him? We all know he'll never see the field in a Browns uni again. Cutting him would be a great step towards getting out from under the malaise he casts over the entire franchise.
What? Are they scared the Steelers are going to sign him and make the Browns foot the majority of the salary ala Russell Wilson? Big deal. He hasn't shown heart or ability in years and is coming off his second achilles. They should offer to pay Watson's salary just to see him destroy any team that signs him.
They're paying regardless, might as well have fun with it.
It doesn't fix all the other dysfunction but,.it's a start.

That said, I happen to agree with him for the most part about Sanders, but without all the whining.

They aren't cutting Watson because the dead cap space is much greater if they cut him now rather than sit him on IR and get cap relief from the insurance policy. I'm pretty confident Watson will never see the field again as a Brown but he isn't getting cut until after June 1st 2026.

Certainly not wishing for the kid to fail at this point.....but I definitely dont feel bad about this happening to him. He 100% brought it on himself.
There's like a 4 month lead-up to the draft from the end of the season. Like 120 days where you have to keep your nose clean, not test positive for any banned substances and at least pretend to be a respectful, enthusiastic, coachable person who has football as their # 1 priority.
Not only could he NOT do that....it was like he was going 100% out of his way to show that he's too cool to do so. He thumbed his nose at the entire process and just expected it to be handed to him like it has been at every other stop he's made. (obviously he was the best option at QB at both Jackson State and Colorado). He's almost certainly better than a 5th round talent, but if you're gonna be a world class jerk.....you better be damn sure you have a SPOTLESS on the field skill set to back it up.
I certainly dont think his future is set in stone (unlike Manziel, who I was 100% sure would crash out of the league within 3 years. It was VERY clear that guy had a major substance problem), but his margin of error got a LOT thinner this weekend. Dude says something Miles Garrett doesn't like in the middle of July and his butt will be on the waiver wire.

Poor interview, pressure from his dad who might even be competition for the HC's job and add to that POTUS tweeting about how teams are dumb for not taking him. I know if I am running an NFL team, I don't want to invite that into my locker room unless I feel like's a star.

I suppose the way this shakes out depends on how the kids do in camp.
I dont know that either of the kids is good enough to beat out Flacco on day 1. but then again I didnt think Dak would be able to beat out Romo when he returned from injury. Though admittedly Romos issue was that he couldnt stay healthy. when he was on the field he was productive. but he was injured far too often to remain a starter.

He's a kid. He's dedicated his entire life to playing a sport that required 100x the dedication you or I has likely put into anything... And now he's a laughing stock and a meme, because of external circumstances.
I'm the LAST person to claim racism... And honestly, I'm not fully sure that's what is at play here... but it's definitely vendetta driven against (primarily) the father. You could write 50 novellos about Shadeur not being a round 1 pick and I'd listen... But you couldn't possibly hit me with anything after rnd 1 that I'd believe or even give a second of my time reading.

Every single team in the league would have made a good decision by drafting him in the middle of the 5th round. Maybe the Browns traded into the spot because they thought the Rams were going to finally take him?
It's the 5th round, where drafted players get cut all the time. The risk is very low, and the ceiling is pretty high. What's the worst that could happen? He becomes a distraction or is terrible, and they cut him? So what?
I rarely pass up on an opportunity to trash the Browns, but this was a good selection. If he gets you some extra attention and sells some jerseys, he was worth it. If he gets you on Hard Knocks he's worth triple his contract in publicity. And that's without throwing a pass. And if he's good, that's awesome. Whatever Cleveland can do to get people to stop talking about the worst trade in the history of professional sports is a good thing. And it cost them next to nothing in draft capital. Good job Cleveland!

It wouldn't have made a difference in this case anyway. Shedeur was not someone who thought he had to interview so he was lucky enough to be drafted; he thought he was so awesome that a team would be lucky to draft him, which is why he hand picked only a handful of teams to talk to before the draft.

Shedeur dropped to the 3rd because of his own actions and words, no one else's. He has no one to blame but himself.
Ultimately, he is a 5th round pick. Legendary, indeed.

Mel Kiper's misses Like any draft guru, Mel Kiper has opinions. And like anyone in the field, sometimes the thoughts don't fit the careers players have. It's easy to pick apart someone who has been around for years and years and has built a huge reputation.

Look, the media hyped him far past what his abilities showed if you watched him with a critical eye and didn't listen to the hype train. He's a 3rd round talent in a weak QB class and likely a 4th in a good class. He fell to the 5th due to his attitude. Seriously, none of this should have been a surprise to anyone. Kiper, Eisen, and the rest of the prognosticators that had him as a first round talent were wrong. That's not just my opinion, but that of 32 NFL teams. If he was justified as first then he would have gone in the first. Suggesting collusion, racism, or any other conspiracy doesn't change that. Now that he's had a taste of humble pie maybe he can check the attitude and go work on his deficiencies. Talk time is over, what's done is done, now we get to see if he really is the legend he likes to tell everyone he is.

Shedeur said he was only meeting with teams in the top 5. Deion did the same thing. A team asked him to interview and he asked where they were picking and they said 10 and he said, "No, I'll be gone long before then."

I just think this is way off. I think the slide to the 5th is completely his, and his father's, fault.
He's humbled, and ready to come in and work? He's gonna tell his father to SHUT THE EFF UP about his son's pro career/teammates/city? Awesome. CLE could use a stroke of good fortune. But let's not rewrite history here. He's not a victim. There's no conspiracy of untrue rumors about Shedeur.
You should have posted this last year about Caleb Williams, it would have applied more.
