RB Peyton Barber, LV - 9.4.21 Signs with Las Vegas (1 Viewer)

where is all this Bucs and great offense talk coming from?  I don't see it.

Still like Barber but is this all homer talk on the great offense or am i missing something?
It’s speculation as of now, but not sure how you can’t see the potential for a good / great offense, homer or not. I don’t think anyone claimed they were already great, but they certainly have the talent and potential.

Shopping him around in one of my dynasty leagues for a 1st rounder. Might get RoJo's owner to bite, but I doubt it.

ETA: no dice, which is fine. I want to see what the guy can do. If RoJo completely busts and Barber continues to improve he could be a nice little find for most people.
I think someone would be nuts to give up a 1st for Barber.

#1 He would need to win and hold the job all season

#2 He would have to have a good enough season where he wouldn't be in danger of losing the job going into next season

#3 Ronald Jones would have to do absolutely nothing this year where he's not a threat going forward

Even if Barber wins the job I don't think many look at him as a viable long term starter.

I agree, which is why I figured he'd say no, but might be desperate. He has what it takes to win it all this year, but Jones playing second fiddle to Barber really leaves him short at RB. I think Barber could be enough to help him win this year. Thought he might be willing to go for it. He did say no.

I think those 3 items are very attainable so far with what Jones has shown. He is young and no one should give up on him yet, but I think those 3 items are just as likely to be realistic as they are unrealistic.

Then you should keep him.  If you believe Barber is going to have a monster season where he's a long term bell cow you should keep him.

I am not 100% certain on that; I think it's a realistic possibility. I'm a sucker for draft picks, but you're right he would make more sense to keep.

I see him having value after 2018 regardless. I traded for him figuring he would at least get goal line carries and share with Jones. I could see that as a floor for Barber 2019 and beyond unless Jones turned into a 3 down back, which is unlikely to happen. If he shares some rushing duties and gets the goal line carries he still holds some significant value. I'm not familiar with Barber's catching ability but if he can carve out a role there, then even better. Jones seems to have stone hands.

Well he believes that now. After he trades him he'll be calling him a bum. :P
  that's usually how it works around here it seems.

As I clarified above, I'm not 100% certain Barber is the guy going forward, but so far he has the opportunity to make it so. Jones doesn't

I would certainly sell for a 1st because there is that risk of Jones becoming better than what he is now; he's so young and he does have talent. I liked Jones a lot coming out of college, didn't like his destination as much, and the more I saw him the less I liked him as the 2 down back.

I would maybe sell Barber for a high 2nd but he's worth more to me on my team than a random second round pick, and wouldn't do so until next offseason when we know more on his future. So I would say I am doing exactly what ILUVBEER suggests I do. I would sell at an outrageous price because he's worth more on my roster than the going rate, especially with Guice on the IR

They're thin on the offensive line and avoided a scare in practice the other day with their LT, but if the line stays intact they should be in for an explosive year.  Marpet was able to move back to a guard position with the signing of Ryan Jensen to play center.  Demar Dotson is one of the best RTs in the league.

Arguably they have the best collection of offensive skill position players in the NFL.

Agreed. Tampa Bay and Tennessee I'm real excited to watch. Trying to buy what I can on both of these teams. Winston, Godwin and Barber; Mariota, Davis, and Lewis

This is the guy you want.  He's about to explode.
Completely agree. Ended up trading Brandin Cooks for a 2019 1st and Godwin. Was pretty stoked. Some people love Cooks but I see Godwin as a potential target hog. I liked TB a lot last year but it just didn't click. I see them as a playoff team and potentially in the running for the division.

Sorry everyone for the tangent talk

Well they will be starting 0-3 against @ Saints and then Eagles and Steelers (with Ryan Fitzpatrick playing QB) - so the playoffs will take some serious work let alone winning what may be the toughest overall division in the NFC.

Yeah Fitzpatrick will make it difficult for sure. The division is tough for everyone, so the good news for TB is they all have to beat each other up, which means anyone could take the division really.

Atlanta could easily start 1-2 or 0-3
Carolina could also start 1-2 or 0-3
(both teams 0-3 is not possible)

ETA: Saints also have first 4 games without Ingram. Which I know they have Kamara and it's not the same as losing their starting QB, but he's a major offensive weapon nonetheless

If you've followed the NFL for more than a half hour you should know better than to assume any of this.

You got me.

If some one says "I see them as a playoff team and potentially in the running for the division" that's ok. But if some one lists their theory as to what that's implausible that's not?

Obviously what I said is not set in stone but it's the most likely outcome imo - but sure upsets happen and garbage QBs sometimes win games.

I thought they were a sure fire playoff team last year and they seriously underachieved. I’d like to think that changes this year but hard to see a huge jump in the win column. If they are eliminated from the playoffs sooner rather than later that could force them to start playing Rojo even if Barber is lighting it up just to see what they have. I really like Barber, especially at his price but the 2nd half of the season is a complete unknown.

It may only be preseason, but the Bucs are averaging 28 points a game right now, fourth-most in the league and higher than any other Bucs’ preseason in at least 20 years. Last preseason, they averaged 10.8 points per game, dead-last in the league.

I don't see how Tampa Bay can't be at least the 2nd best team in that division. I guess if you go off 2017 and assume no one is better, healthier, etc then sure, Tampa is likely to finish second to last in their division.

If TB can squeak one of those games out and be 1-2, how is that any different than how NO started last year? Or if they start 3-3, then they're on pace with last year's Super Bowl runner up.

ETA:
IMO this division is ripe for the taking. NO is aging at QB and this could be the year that Brees regresses. They also are without Ingram for a chunk of time. I don't know what to make of NO TBH. Carolina I have zero faith in unless Cam has fixed being Cam. Atlanta is solid, good defense and a potent offense, and my favorite to win the division, but they have their own warts.

I love that people are under-estimating Tampa and even Tennessee. I could very well be wrong, but I find it hard to believe there isn't a lot to like about this team. The potential is definite there. If Winston decides to just be a bum then sure, this team will falter and then they need to make changes to take advantage of the offensive weapons they have. A lot rides on him being healthy and performing at the level he's capable of

Jameis Winston has been the NFL’s highest graded quarterback so far this preseason.

10 of them for the Jets in 2015!  :excited:
Yes - he played as well as he ever had/has that year, yet any Jet fan will tell you he was also extremely lucky. He was often bailed out by his big strong WRs like Marshall, Decker and Enunwa who fought for balls and took them away from defenders. He had a lot of interceptions dropped as well. His ducks landed in the right hands when they could have feel incomplete or had been picked if it wasn't for Fitzmagic. He was fun to watch, but everyone knew the glass slipper would come off and it sure did the next season.

The guy is a turnover machine with a weak arm and despite his Harvard education a dunce on the field. There's no shame in having a bad backup QB, most teams do - heck plenty of teams have bad starters as well.

The Panthers are the only team to take the division in back to back years (3 years in a row with the middle season being a studly winning record of 7-8-1.) If there is one division that screams parity, its the NFC South.

Winston looks ready to take that next leap to the front of QB line..if preseason games are any indication, he's going to CRUSH it this year..I'm all in.

Barber is going to be a good RB for any fantasy team, likely a high end #2/low end RB1, and Godwin looks like he will sneak into the WR top 10-15 this season. looks to me like TB is going to play balls-2-the-wall type of offense. let 'er rip!

Yep I foresee an early survivor pool exit for Dr Octopus with that line of thinking.
I would imagine there may be better matchups to choose each week (for one thing I don't like taking division games) but I would imagine TB will be the underdog all three of those weeks. If Winston was playing they would likely be favored over Pitt at home - but Fitzpatrick?

They were 9th in the league in yards per game last year and 8th in yards per play. And that’s with the starting qb missing 3 games. 6 of the 7 teams ahead of them in YPP were playoff teams and the other one was the Chargers

Their problem is red zone efficiency and hopefully Barber can improve a lot of that this year.

Wasn't trying to stir the pot with my opinion on the two QBs.

I actually view Jameis as a sympathetic character whose father is to blame for some of his poor life choices and I have some hope that his recent supposed commitment to abstinence will allow him to focus and grow personally and professionally.  But I've watched enough of his gameplay to see a tremendous athlete who shows flashes of passing brilliance but lacks the decision making skills to be an NFL quarterback.  Perhaps the decision making skills can improve over time but I'm doubtful.

Fitzpatrick makes some of the dumbest decisions I have ever seen a QB make.

Basically all of your concerns sound like what you'd have said about Alex Collins in November last year.

Regarding 3, the team has talked about Jones as a complimentary back not a primary one, so Jones could be successful in that role and still have barber be a quality starter. It's possible that's just how they see him.

He's probably worth about the same as Lamar Miller, and a little less than mark Ingram.  Maybe the same as tevin Coleman.  I don't think he's worth a first, but his value is what the market will bear.  In a vacuum, he should be considered ahead of guys like

Rex burkhead - 28, already hurt, uncertain job and has Michel and co

Marshawn - 32, who knows if he's even starting

Dion lewis - 28, upside capped by Henry

Chris Carson - has all the same concerns as barber but penny is bigger competition

Any jets back

Any colts back

Etc.

Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber rushed five times for 34 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason game versus the Lions.

Barber did all of his damage on the opening drive before resting for the remainder of the evening. Three of his five carries went for five or more yards, capped by a 14-yard touchdown run in which he broke a tackle behind the line of scrimmage before finding a crease on the right side for the score. Barber filled in adequately for Tampa Bay as their lead back over the final five weeks of 2017, averaging 18 touches and 84 yards per week over that span and hasn't let up this offseason. Barber has dominated first-team work for the Bucs all preseason, totaling 87 yards on the ground on 15 carries with two touchdowns through three preseason games. Closing the summer as one of the biggest climbers in ADP, Barber is a volume-based RB3 entering the season.

given a choice between Hyde, Barber, R. Freeman how would FBG'ers see it?
Relative to ADP Barber wins hands down. If I had to choose between Freeman in the 3rd, Hyde in the 5th or Barber in the 6/7th I'm always going to go with Barber.

We have some idea of what Barber is capable of and how he may be utilized. His first real game action last year came in week 13 (he did score 2 TDs on 5 carries in week 12), and from there on out he averaged 16 carries, 3 targets, 3 receptions a game on 41% of the snaps. The only other players who saw a relevant number of snaps during that time were Martin and Sims (Quiz could't eclipse 7% of the snaps) and both of Martin and Sims are gone.

Barber now has two years with TB under his belt and will be facing the least competition has has since he joining the team. He's kind of a no-brainer even if he is just an average talent.

given a choice between Hyde, Barber, R. Freeman how would FBG'ers see it?
ADP-wise, you could have all 3.

I have Royce as a RB2 & Barber as a RB3/Flex in one of my two leagues. I coulda had Hyde too if I didn’t take a WR there.

But purely from a football standpoint, I’d say

Freeman -> Hyde -> Barber, but Freeman/Hyde are close right now than I think they’ll be by say, week 6. Freeman will inexplicably be in a time-share with scrubby Booker, who should plod his way out of significant touches 2.5 yards at a time within 5-7 weeks.

Oddly enough Barber reminds me of Freeman. They're both 5'11, ~230, compiled yards in college and possess plus agility for their size (and in general). Freeman's 3-cone 6.9 is similar to Barber's 7. Freeman shuttle (4.16) is also similar to Barber's 4.20. Freeman just has a fair bit more burst, at least according to the combine. But if you like Freeman it stands to reason that you'd like Barber too. I don't see either player's situation being much better/worse than the others.

I haven't gotten to see two of these guys really run in a regular season yet.

I like Freeman's highlights more than Barber, but that's really an uneducated observation.

I really like Barber and feel he is my somewhat sleeper even though he is becoming much more noticed now since beating out Ronald Jones.

Barber was gashing the Saints, but they went away from him because Fitz was gashing them for 50+ whenever he wanted to.

Homers - what’s going on with this guy? Thankfully only have him on best ball team but certainly didn’t see this. Couldn’t be game script since they were up all day and he didn’t even pull 2ypc.
