That's the reality for every player in the NFL. Zach Wilson and Josh Rosen didn't have job security just because they were 1st round picks. We can find similar examples at the RB position like Fournette and Richardson. The high draft status earned them some extended opportunities, but that's it. If you don't get results, you will eventually be replaced. That's true for every player in the league, so we don't need to apply it selectively to 5th round picks.
It's all about what you can produce on the field. Most late picks are mediocre or worse. Some aren't. Nobody felt compelled to replace Sproles, Brady, or Foster because they were unheralded draft prospects. Tracy being a 5th is not very relevant if he continues to look like he should've been taken a lot higher.
Long-term, of course mediocre players will be replaced. There's no argument there. It's a reality of the NFL, so what we're really arguing here is how good Tracy is. Nobody is saying he is Tomlinson or Peterson, but at the same time, he may be good enough to where he can stave off most challengers and the team doesn't feel compelled to prioritize a replacement. I don't think RB ranks high on NYG's list of biggest problems at the moment, which is not to say he'll be the opening day starter in 2028. Nobody is assuming that level of relevance yet, but so far he's exceeding expectations.
