RB Tyrone Tracy Jr., NYG (2 Viewers)

That's the reality for every player in the NFL. Zach Wilson and Josh Rosen didn't have job security just because they were 1st round picks. We can find similar examples at the RB position like Fournette and Richardson. The high draft status earned them some extended opportunities, but that's it. If you don't get results, you will eventually be replaced. That's true for every player in the league, so we don't need to apply it selectively to 5th round picks.

It's all about what you can produce on the field. Most late picks are mediocre or worse. Some aren't. Nobody felt compelled to replace Sproles, Brady, or Foster because they were unheralded draft prospects. Tracy being a 5th is not very relevant if he continues to look like he should've been taken a lot higher.

Long-term, of course mediocre players will be replaced. There's no argument there. It's a reality of the NFL, so what we're really arguing here is how good Tracy is. Nobody is saying he is Tomlinson or Peterson, but at the same time, he may be good enough to where he can stave off most challengers and the team doesn't feel compelled to prioritize a replacement. I don't think RB ranks high on NYG's list of biggest problems at the moment, which is not to say he'll be the opening day starter in 2028. Nobody is assuming that level of relevance yet, but so far he's exceeding expectations.

Looks like he got a concussion. Hope it's not too bad.

Looking more like a 1 and not 1a, and there's lots of production yet to mine in his receiving games.

Saquon who?
Seriously Saquon is great, Schoen mishandled it, we all saw it, allowed Philly to pounce on a market inequity and has properly been ripped. But he deserves to get his flowers for this pick and in fact I’d argue a younger Tracy with less wear and tear getting paid almost league minimum for 4 years is more valuable.

He could have had both of course but he should get credit for this save/win.

On a short week and suffering a potential concussion, I wonder what the odds are of him suiting up this Sunday.
I'm guessing not good.

Damn shame. Would open the door again for Singletary after he slammed it shut last night. Hoping I have an RB1 here ROS.
Singletary has been time share/backup on 3 teams in the last 3 years. He ain't taking the job back.

Why yes, he is the best rookie running back, and on pace for 1,000 yards.

Godspeed, you gorgeous dynasty 4th round rookie pick. :towelwave:
Took him 3.12 to effectively balance out my wasted 1.12 on Marshawn Lloyd (and last year's wasted 1.12 on Kendre Miller). Stupid hobby, can never get ahead!

For the dynasty guys who may have some more in-depth knowledge... How good of a receiver was he? Did he convert to RB because the wasn't good? Or is he good enough that the Giants should be scheming mismatches against safeties and LBs down the field?

Much of what I considered emphasized the conversion to RB at Purdue. But he did run the ball some @iowa and a lot his senior year in high school. Cut a bit high with a longer stride but it's not as if he's foreign to the position. The url below re-directs to his TD run (39sec in). Outruns the pursuit to the goal, but it's the safety assigned to fill in run support who flops that springs him. Didn't appear to be the better week 8 choice over Brian Robinson jr. Even though Singletary only ran the ball twice Tracy wasn't named the starter. That's the coach letting the players decide.

Planning as if he's out this week. Sucks but concussion on a short week is almost 0% chance he clears in time.

Wayyyy too early to quit on Lloyd.
Oh I haven't quit. He's just already becoming an eyesore on the roster (like KM)

Packers fan here. He's been injured, obviously, but I also thought that they could've not signed Jacobs and just went with Emmanuel Wilson as their RB1. Wilson pass blocks better than Jacobs and has looked like the more explosive runner.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Lloyd pick, but I doubt he sees much of the field this year. The fact that Chris Brooks was immediately playing over Lloyd after being signed doesn't bode well, and Brooks has looked good when playing.

I'm surprised he's doing anything at this point. Off to the side doing anything is relatively good news.

Giants coach Brian Daboll said Tyrone Tracy is in the early stages of concussion protocol.
Tracy suffered the concussion late in New York’s loss to Pittsburgh and did not return. Per Daboll, he will do some work off to the side with trainers for Wednesday’s practice. That will likely go down as a DNP to start the week. Tracy could return to practice later in the week and suit up on Sunday, but the odds of that aren’t high. Devin Singletary will likely get the start versus Washington in Week 9.

"Looks like Tyrone Tracy has progressed to Phase 4 of the concussion protocol. We’ll hear from Daboll shortly, but Tracy is on the field wearing red non-contact jersey."

wow ok another option this week maybe.

so other than the injury he has won the job, right? or are we still saying that daboll loves singletary too much etc?

Well, he can catch. The question is, could he run? So far, he sure can.

So far, they haven't thrown a ton to him. I think the best outcome possible is Kamara workload. 10 plus runs, and steady targets.

I’d say he won the job. ChatGPT let me know Singletary got 2 carries for 11 yards. I didn’t look it up to confirm and it was my first ChatGPT question. Anyways, yeah he took the job over and he feels pretty close to one of the pickups of the season in redraft.

I don't follow CFB, so I know nothing about him other than he has a history at WR. I guess what I'm trying to find out is whether he is a "can run a full route-tree and create mismatches downfield" type of receiving back, or is he a "well, he won't drop a screen pass" type of receiving back.

I like what I've seen from him as runner so far.

In like week 2 maybe, before he broke out, he had like a 30 yard wheel route ball thrown his way near the pylon for a would be TD. Jones overthrew it by just inches but it was there and they have been using him as a receiving weapon a bit more than just screens or dumpoffs. Wheel routes are common for RB but still I found it encouraging so early in the season that they were designing and running a high value play like that for him. It was just a hair from a highlight reel play.

I don't think it matters even a little bit how good of a receiver he was in college. He's playing RB so it stands to reason his receiving skills are better or on par with the vast majority of RBs in the league.

I mean…I agree with the logic that a former wide receiver in college has better hands than a non former wide receiver in college…

https://youtube.com/shorts/26X--l3hZh0?si=koQIPMLwsjeXainh Schoen was about to be fired based on the owner's stress in these clips.

and good point! Hard Knocks feels like forever ago, but nailing the Tyrone Tracy pick definitely softened the blow for sure!

Anyways tangent aside,
Love Tracy and completely lucked into him this season. I feel he is coming back this week and he could be the key late season run for all who roster. The O Line is terrible but, he is a playmaker and will never leave my lineup now. RB1 is great, but prolly more of a RB2 at least. oh and basically gamescript proof. He's better in all phases of the game imo. Top Rookie RB too so far, crazy NFL.

Has to be the quickest turnaround ever.

Crossing fingers. Hoping the door is slammed shut on Singletary for good and this guy rolls ROS. Perfect timing as my C. Hubbard is looking ready to expire.

I'd love to see data on performance of players who clear concussion protocol a day or two before the game.

I got a theory they may not be involved in the game plan as much since coaches are not sure of their availability as they gameplan during the week.
