It was my wife's 50th birthday last week. I'd gotten her a pasta-making attachment for our Kitchenaid mixer as a gift, but my SIL convinced me that was kind of lame for her 50th so instead I got her a diamond pendant necklace, and stashed the other thing away for Christmas. When she got home from work I handed her the tiny gift-wrapped box. She opened it, observed its contents, and didn't look nearly as excited as I'd anticipated she would. She spread the collar of the blouse she was wearing a bit so I could see her neck and said: "You gave me the same thing three years ago." Indeed I did...for our 20th anniversary, and she happened to be wearing it.
