Stuff happening lately that reminds you you're getting older (2 Viewers)

Visiting Boise and the radio station that was playing Zeppelin,The who, etc was called "The Oldies"
Haven't these been considered "oldies" for the last 25+ years?  I guess maybe classic rock is the better term.

Green Day, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc. on "classic" stations is what gets me.

If I think of something simple like, "remember to put the mouse in the computer bag", I better do it right away or that damn mouse is staying home.

I was feeding a coworker's cat while they were away on a trip.  I set an alarm on my phone so that poor thing didn't starve.

It was usually called classic rock, now the ones you cited are classic rock. It made me think back to the 80's when I worked in a machine shop. One of the older guys always played an oldies station. They were playing 50's music. The 50's in the 80's was oldies so it makes sense that the 80's are oldies now.

If I have to do something later in the day, I usually put some random thing out of place to remind me. Like putting a shampoo bottle on the sink to remind me to check the shower drain.

"Why is that th...oh yeah, check the drain"

My daughter's friend jokingly said to me the other day, "OK, Boomer."

Problem is, I'm 10 years younger than the youngest Boomer.  But I'm so old, that the younger generation just lumps me in with those old farts.
A more appropriate name for you would be Boomer Junior.

Physical issues over the last 5 years include Hemorrhoids,
Ugh, ####ing tell me about it.  I had one that was an "internal" hemorrhoid.  Long story short, after pooping blood I went to my female doctor.  Fast forward 20 minutes and my very attractive doctor, a more attractive intern (or resident or whatever you call them), and a hot nurse are cutting into the hemorrhoid clinging to the inside of my cornhole and then prescribing suppositories that leaked some candlewax like substance for the next two weeks.

It was my wife's 50th birthday last week. I'd gotten her a pasta-making attachment for our Kitchenaid mixer as a gift, but my SIL convinced me that was kind of lame for her 50th so instead I got her a diamond pendant necklace, and stashed the other thing away for Christmas. When she got home from work I handed her the tiny gift-wrapped box. She opened it, observed its contents, and didn't look nearly as excited as I'd anticipated she would. She spread the collar of the blouse she was wearing a bit so I could see her neck and said: "You gave me the same thing three years ago." Indeed I did...for our 20th anniversary, and she happened to be wearing it.

I have to move extra slowly whenever I get dressed or undressed to avoid injury.

Every cold, no matter how minor otherwise, ends with a 2-4 weeks of lingering cough.

Oh man

:lmao:

Exactly the kind of thing I'd do

Have you tried using a bidet?

I am 45.  I coach my son's 14u club baseball team.  We had a scrimmage last night at practice and we needed coaches to fill in the field so I happened to go to 2nd base.  A kid hit a ball up the middle that I made a quick burst to try and get and my left hamstring tightened up very quickly and stopped me in my tracks.  That has never happened before.  It is pretty tender today but I think I avoided tearing it.

I went on a rant to my 13-yr old son the other day (who is like 1 yr old in my avatar) about respecting his elders and not wasting his time playing video games and texting his friends all day and night.

I feel I skipped my middle aged years and went straight to grumpy old man.

I was in my car after lunch, waiting for a call from a buddy, and it felt like I had a booger in my nose, so I used the rearview mirror to take a peek.  There is currently a forest of effin' nose hair up in each nostril.

Good thing I have "nose hair maintenance" on a reminder for later tonight already in my phone.  It is certainly due.

:sadbanana:

My wife gets on me for falling asleep on the couch around 10p if I have had a drink or two with/before dinner. I had to go without drinks for a couple of nights to make her realize that it wasn't the alcohol that was making me tired and wanting to rest my eyes, I'm just tired.

And yes, I love waking up between 7a-8a on the weekends and having a few hours to myself to read, get some work done, have some coffee, etc. I just wish my 15-year old son slept as long as my wife did on weekends! Aren't they supposed to sleep-in until early afternoon? What's wrong with this kid?

That is an odd one.  My kids would sleep until 11 on the weekends if they didn't have to work or an extracurricular activity at that age.

I did but it wasn't as hot as my doctor and sucked at diagnosing illnesses.
Ah I see. So this is most definitely a reminder that you're getting old, in that you'd rather purposely get hemorrhoids just to have an excuse for a bunch of attractive doctors and nurses to mess around with your butt. I get it..  I'm sure a lot of us old farts can relate.

Eating just about any food makes me cough a good bit. Even healthy stuff.

Pizza? Coughing fit 5 minutes in.
Fried chicken? Coughing fit.
Ham sandwich? Coughing.
Super-Vegan Kale & Quinoa salad, no dressing? Yes, still cough.

My depth perception is shot. I misjudge and knock things over on a regular basis. Given that I used to fly for a living, I guess I (and anyone seated behind me) should be happy it waited this long to go bad.

Yeah - I can go riding and peg my heart rate for an hour with no issues.  A shower makes me cough.  Go figure.
I'm guessing it not you, but the moisture in the air.

I have a "communal asthma" which only happens if I'm around smokers outside in the cold/wet of winter. My doc says it's not that uncommon. Otherwise I dont have asthma at all. And it certainly didnt pop up until I was in my mid 40s.

Acid Reflux

Acid Reflux
I get that at night if I eat certain foods too close to bedtime. Distinct burning/sour sensation after a near-miss upchuck. Takes about 30-60 minutes to clear up.

Thats what I thought reflux was.

The coughing comes with no sensation whatsoever of having acid in the back of my throat. The coughing feels exactly like the common cold, phlegm and all. I’ve never gotten the coughing-while-eating checked out (the incidents are annoying but brief), but I’ve always assumed it was a histamine reaction.

Get a swallowing evaluation. Speech pathology does them, though you may need a referral from your doctor.

If you’re aspirating stuff into your lungs, it’s only a matter of time until you get pneumonia. More importantly, a swallowing problem may be a sign of systemic illness.

I am starting to like getting up early on the weekends, as opposed to sleeping in. I'm talking 6-6:30ish.  The house is quiet, I can relax in my house in peace for a couple hours.  I also like going to bed early (10-10:30ish).

Honestly, i don't think my body and its aches would let me sleep any longer, I have just grown accustomed to it.  But it's not too bad being up early on the weekends.
I just woke up at 7:15 and that’s sleeping in for me.

My father in law was losing weight at a scary pace. Lost his appetite. Started with mild coughing that eventually progressed to the point where patrons would get up during his coughing spells expecting to have to do the heimlich (sp?). Eventually, started having falls. Ended up in the ER. Turns out his throat was virtually closed off due to some sort of bone spur thing near his throat. It had basically closed his throat off entirely and everything he was eating was getting lodged in his throat until he coughed it up, and then taking the path of least resistance and going to his lungs. So though he was eating he was literally starving. He's now in a nursing home being fed through a PEG (feeding tube to the stomach). Doing well and is recovered. But will never again be able to sustain himself by eating via the mouth. So yes, this stuff can start mildly but get much, much worse if not diagnosed.
