A couple things that stand out IMO:1) You are best served staying in the 21-25 player range. More than this and your team is too diluted of power, less than and you are too thin to survive the inevitable injury strike.2) You need to spend quality money at the QB and TE positions. Go cheap here and its gonna cost you big time.3) If there is any area to sacrifice and go cheap, its at the DEF position. The point production from here is low and is semi-unstable.4) You should carry no less than 3 PK, and no more than 6. I think 4 is the optimum number.Im gonna post my team after the deadline, but looking like 22 or 23 playersThis is, by far, a much harder contest than it was the last couple years. Kudo's to the staff. Been making changes 3 - 4 times a day.
:lmao: I'd add...you have to have depth at WR. Lots of lower priced #2 WR & slot options that could throw in a big week to keep your team alive. Also, Week 10 can be very dangerous if you load up on too many Packers and Saints.

Good points. Also, might as well go on the record now with a request: To all those who want to post their lineups, PLEASE don't post just your lineup. Nobody wants to sit and look through 10,000 combinations, and it serves little purpose. On the other hand, if you post your lineup AND include some discussion of your thought process in how you got to that lineup (much as TheGrimReaper did here), it does make for interesting reading.

I'll post my last decision...

Drop: Brian Hartline ($6)

Add: Deion Branch ($3) and Sammy Morris ($3)

Reason: Hartline was WR 7 for me. I felt that I needed a RB6 for emergency coverage, and I put that above having a TE3, K4, or Def4. Morris will see the most regular time of the $3 and below RB. Dropping Hartline to Branch should be a minimal impact as long as Branch stays healthy.

IMO some people are seriously underestimating the value of early bye weeks for your studs....
 :wall: ABSOLUTELY!!!! I have had to reconfigure quite a bit to take this into account. As the triangle narrows for survival as we get deeper into this thing, those having gone thru early bye weeks, are going to be in much better position to survive. Cant emphasize this enough. Great Point

IMO there is one NE RB to own in this contest and it's not Sammy Morris (unless the situation changes).

Good move. I've got Branch and Morris on my roster.

Fred's not gonna get all the carries icon.

Premise: you cant win this thing if you start drafting to account for possible injuries.discuss...
I handcuffed my RB1...and I NEVER handcuff. Just had the exact amount left over and felt it was worth it as guaranteeing that production from that team is more favorable than another throw away RB or WR.

Can you clarify - are you saying to can't win if you use handcuffs for your own players? Or that you can't win by counting on players to get injured?Except for my lower end bench (RB 4-6), I expect all of my players to start from day 1.

one of the reasons I decided to go away from ARod. NO spreads the ball around too much for there to be much value there IMO. I only have two week 10 byes, and we all know Finley will be on 100% of teams that have any chance of winning...

It doesn't bother me if someone post their lineup without explanation.

In the past, didn't the weeks with the most teams on byes have a lower cutoff mark?

some handcuffs because of the favorable price should be mandatory. I'm not taking Barber but I think its foolish not to pair a $4 Choice with him. There are other obvious pairs but I won't discuss until later

Last year Week 5 had the lowest cutoff.Week 5: Bears, Packers, Saints, ChargersExpect Week 10 to be the same this year, but that makes it more problematic.I expect Rodgers/Finley/Brees owners can still make it if they choose the right backups.

The guy i am having problems with is BERRIAN.

Yes he will be one of the highest% owned in this contest, but some odd reason i cant

shake this feeling that im better served spending that 7bucks elsewhere. Never been a Berrian fan

but at 7.00 yes he is a bargain. As my wr6 i think i might take a chance on a guy i doubt many will

roster for 7.00 like A.Benn. I have Williams already which most will have too but i dont think many will

have Benn at 7.00 and he didnt get alot of hype and isnt expected to start.

Soured on Laurent as well. Yes FBG has some good projections for him but im not to sure what to make

of that wr core in st louis at the moment, might grab a cheap bargain bin on M.Clayton instead for 3.00 and

hope for the best.

My position with this contest is to attack it where it matters. Might be riding in a old rusty beat down chevy but if you look under

my hood its powered by the baddest MFmotor youve ever seen!

latest roster had 30 players. Not having a WR over $12 scares me
I have no WR over $18, then the next group of guys are around $11 each. Honestly, the guys I really covet are in the $27 range. But once I decided that was too much money to risk on one WR, it was easy to drop way down below $20.
I took one bjg one and a bunch of little priced ones at Wr.
I was very tempted to do this with someone like Austin. But I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a WR.

It's kind of like everyone posting their lotto numbers. w/o explanation it's of no value and a pain to shuffle past.

Good deal. Just entered this as mine too

Sorry to those that wanted some analysis and thought behind my lineup.

QB - Matt Schaub - HOU/7 - $23

QB - Ben Roethlisberger - PIT/5 - $14

Decided that the 6pts per pass td meant it was a good plan to get an elite qb. I really wanted Romo here but as Ben is out in week 4 decided to roll with Schaub instead, I know many think Schaub could miss time as he's "fragile" so having Big Ben is good insurance, he may even outscore Schaub some weeks. Thought about adding a 3rd QB but just couldn't find the cash.

RB - DeAngelo Williams - CAR/6 - $28

RB - Ahmad Bradshaw - NYG/8 - $18

RB - Arian Foster - HOU/7 - $13

RB - Willis McGahee - BAL/8 - $8

RB - Thomas Jones - KC/4 - $7

RB - Fred Taylor - NE/5 - $6

RB - Mike Tolbert - SD/10 - $1

My first few attempts all had a stud RB at the core but the more I did this the more I realised it left me too thin at other positions. I decided that with the high probability of injury at the RB position it was good to take slightly more players than I had initially planned for. Foster is a player I expect to be on every roster this year and so there was no point in not taking him. I like my picks of McGahee and Tolbert as either could be good for a score or two on any given week, Tolbert less so but it was only a dollar.

WR - Wes Welker - NE/5 - $21

WR - Jabar Gaffney - DEN/9 - $16

WR - Mike Williams - TB/4 - $8

WR - Bernard Berrian - MIN/4 - $7

WR - Julian Edelman - NE/5 - $5

WR - Harry Douglas - ATL/8 - $5

WR - Eric Decker - DEN/9 - $4

WR - Louis Murphy - OAK/10 - $4

WR - Deion Branch - SEA/5 - $3

WR - Jordan Shipley - CIN/6 - $3

Again it was quantity over quality at the WR position, this competition heavily favours the QB and TE positions and so I figured I'd spend my money there and take a lot of chances at RB and WR.

Barring Shipley, Edelman and Decker I think all of my WR's should start for their teams, this was something that was important to me. I also think that Decker could well be starting by the end of the year. I deliberately took slot guys who could be good for a number of catches each week (Douglas, Shipley). Welker is obviously a very risky WR1 but I have the insurance of Edelman who can hopefully produce at 75% of Wes should anything happen. I need a lot of my upside guys to hit if I'm to be successful here.

TE - Antonio Gates - SD/10 - $26

TE - Aaron Hernandez - NE/5 - $5

TE - Tony Moeaki - KC/4 - $4

As I mentioned above I wanted to get an elite TE and with VJax out for the year I'm really high on Gates this year. I'll probably take stick for passing on the god that is Finley but with risks at other position I feel Gates is safer. I previously had Carlson as my only other TE but split his value between the two rookies, Moeaki should hopefully start for the Chiefs and see a lot of targets from Cassel and Hernandez has been one of the stars of the preseason for the Pats.

PK - Nick Folk - NYJ/7 - $4

PK - Joe Nedney - SF/9 - $3

PK - Sebastian Janikowski - OAK/10 - $2

Strategy here was to go for good but not great offenses who could stall in the redzone.

TD - San Francisco 49ers - SF/9 - $5

TD - New Orleans Saints - NO/10 - $4

TD - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - TB/4 - $3

Plugged the defensive scoring into the VBD app and plotted the contest costs against the rankings provided. It was clear that a number of D's were overvalued and that some were undervalued, I think I got some good picks here.

Overall I may not have enough studs at RB and WR to get me through but I'm confident that if my guys step up I atleast don't need to worry about injuries.

The deadline to submit/edit your contest entry is 11:59pm (ET) Tuesday, September 7th.Must resist urge to change winning roster...
By the way, this thing NEVER closes at midnight. And every year, people post about how they can still change their team, and what's going on? So heads up everyone!! You'll still be able to modify your team at 12:01, don't panic!

I have $18 sitting around for a final player. Santana Moss to give me 8 WR? Spiller, Harrison, Barber or Brown to give me 4 legit RB? Become 6 K/6 Defense guy?

Go bold. Sanchez to Edwards is money all year long.Throw in Berrian and Deion Branch and you're MONEY. Straight cash, homey.
