The Footballguys Bowl! - Was "Interest In A Footballguys Subscriber League?" (1 Viewer)

I have some exciting news. I am dropping this in your league chats in just a bit. Just to show the Forums a little extra love, I'll give you guys the scoop first!

Hey everyone! We are two weeks away from the Footballguys Bowl Playoffs and we have an exciting announcement…. THE CUTLINE!

The powers that be met today and came up with the cutline for year one WILD CARD teams which will be 1975 points. This means any team scoring 1975 points or more on the season will move onto the first round of the playoffs. This is in addition to the top two teams in standing in each division. From there each week 50% of the playoff pool will be cut until the Week 17 FINAL!

So best of luck the next two weeks everyone and let the race to 1975 begin!!!

For any additional questions regarding the playoffs, please go to Footballguysbowl.com
@Joey Wright

So, this seems to be an arbitrary cutline. How was this number arrived at? What is significant about 1975 total points?

Establishing the cutline at this arbitrary number means no one knows how many additional playoff teams there will ultimately be (after the top two from each division.) No?

Any team that averages 141.07 points/game or more through 14 weeks gets admited into the dance.
We know people have been wanting a cutline number. We made it generous and from our calculations should get us our 25%ish number (of the total teams of the tournament) into the playoffs. Although, we wanted to give you something to shoot for as well. Hard cutline establishes that.

Adjusting from 14 weeks to 12 gives you a current cutline of 1692.9. You would need to average 141.1 the last two weeks to advance.

In my league 6 of 12 teams would advance or 50%
There is one league where the number one team would only really make it in because of record where the number 6 team looks clear to go with 1825 points on the season regardless of his 6-6 record. haha.

I think you committed to the top 2 based on record so in this instance 3 teams will get in.

:wall: benching Tua was stupid.

Still ranked 264th, so hopefully it won’t bite me.

1749.75 points right now, so I guess I just need 225.25 more?

That is correct. It was just an example of some of the variance we are seeing across the different divisions. :)

1692.9 puts in 390 teams based on points. I count 50 teams below that with 9 wins or better. Don't have the time right now, but counting the 8 win teams under 1693 and reducing that by half should get in based on record. I come up with 197/2 = 99. 390 + 50 + 99 = 539.

539 / 1908 = 28.25%

Reaching out to the team to see the exact mathematic equation that was used to establish the cutline.

In general, the 1975 point total was reached after looking at the top scoring teams outside of current division leaders and what average weekly point totals it would take to hit our hopeful 25%ish threshold. We discussed doing a projected cutline, but with the feedback we've received on wanting a cutline point number, we decided to give managers a number to shoot for. If more than 25% of the player pool makes it into the finals, in the name of community, so be it. :)

I love this decision and that you've communicated it clearly.

For example, my team sucked through injuries for a few weeks, but is cruising along between 160-190 a week for the past like 6 weeks. I have 302 points from the cutline, and it is way more fun to be doing my best to get that number vs kind of hoping for the best and who really knows (I'm 3rd in Div 0014 at 7-5, 3 games back of second place so no catching them). Think it makes the next two weeks quite fun!

1975 seems harsh but ok. Surprised that's 25%ish. I'm currently in second, but if that does not hold up, I need to average 96 points each of the next two weeks to advance. Totally doable, but I thought I was already more of a lock than that.

The current third place team in our league (in points) needs to average 154 points each week, which seems unlikely. Daaaayum.

I've been running the numbers for several weeks based upon the original criteria. My number was the equivalent of 2000.8. That's works out to 101 extra teams that were let in or .64 teams per league.

I appear to be ranked 245 with an 8-4 record and 1772.7 pts. That is good enough for 4th place in league 0113. There is a three way tie for first at 9-3. I am also pretty solidly in the lead (50+) in total pts scored for our division.

Not sure if that is good enough to get to the next phase.

Read the posts above and it will tell you exactly where you stand and how many points you need to advance.

hint - You're pretty much a stone cold lock.

You would need to average 101.15 pts over the next two weeks to get in. Totally doable, as you are currently averaging 147.725 per week so far this season.

only one team in my league has enough points to be considered a lock.
in third now so I would need to average 172 each week to make cut line.
looks like somebody else needs a loss.

Is there a link where we can see the high scorers for each week, outside of the weekly recap?

Thanks in advance.

- Dave
@baconstripdivots There is not. I will say in 2025 we are going to have a better hold on a fun weekly recap. Appreciate you all being here for year one of our growing pains! :)
This begs the question if it hasn’t been asked already. For those actively participating this year are we automatically grandfathered for next season and future seasons going forward (obviously as long as we keep a subscription active)? Hope so as I have enjoyed this more that expected!!!!

Great point. I can tell a couple teams haven't done much in my division but most have kept up. I don't think any of them are frequent posters on the message board though which is disappointing. I was hoping that would be a big part of the process.

We've got a team in our division that sits at 1-11, with 11 straight losses. Every week he is involved, making waiver moves, grabbing players FCFS. If he is not legitimately trying to win anymore he is most definitely trying to play spoiler. Every single member of my division has been heavily active all year. I am thankful for that. I want my competition to bring the best they've got. I lost a game where I scored over 160 points...my opponent scored 5 more. I've already scored enough that I am close to the cutline already yet my record stands at 7-5 and I am sitting in 4th place. AWESOME!!!

I don't recognize anyone in my division from the these boards though, so, that is a little disappointing.

@Joey Wright I also would like to know if participation this inaugural season guarantees an automatic invite next year, before it is opened up for new participants?

Thanks for having me!

Funny you mention that @Ruffrodys05

I do think inaugural participants getting guaranteed entry is the least we can do. I will say the entry and invite process will change, but participation can be assured. We had just under 2000 this year. I think we will be at least tripling that for 2025. :) Exciting things ahead!

This is outstanding and I am both grateful and excited!

Terrible week personally, barely topped 104 and won't sniff top 2 at 7-6. Good news is only 93.95 below cutline so as long as score what I did this week its a chip and a chair and that's all that matters!

i'm probably ending up at third place in my league and will need roughly 181 pts next week to make the cut. this season my team has hit this mark only once, 189 in week 4, so there is still a chance... like most everyone else, having to deal with injuries and trying to fill starting lineup off the waivers can only go so far.

The mid season doldrums really did me in. I'll be about 100 points below the cut-- and even that would need a bit of luck. My standings magic carpet ride is running out of pixie dust.

We do have at least one team (possibly two) that seem on track to possibly get in via the total points scored and I must say, this is very, very cool. @InDitkaWeTrust, I'll be rooting for you buddy :)

Imagine putting 14 hour work days in for weeks to get invites out, make sure people's usernames match their emails, answer questions, help write a set of rules, set up leagues, and many other task to finish in 12th place in your division. Just imagine. Karma, I do not believe in you.

ah many a commissioners can relate, i'm sure. appreciate you, Joey, this was absolutely a massive endeavor and kudos for how well it got done.

Looks like I'm on the outside looking in. I'll need 180 pts next week to hit the cutoff and I don't think that's happening with this squad. It's been a fun season, though! Thank you @Joe Bryant and @Joey Wright for putting this together for us degenerates!

Can someone explain to me the usage of Sleeper? Because its free? This was the first time I used it, and dont like it at all. I use it strictly from my phone, so maybe I am missing something, but its very blah.
Has nothing to do with my team being garbage

Not sure if you are referring to my team or not, but most things check out...I won week 1 and lost every week since and your username is similar to the 4th place team. Weirdly, I still like the team I've drafted. I did forget to get Jacobs in my lineup this week, so I'll admit it's hard to keep plugging along on a random league with strangers when you are not doing well.

Pro tip Joey, there's this site called Footballguys and they have all kinds of tools to help you win in fantasy football. let me know if you need a link.

Thanks for your work this year.

It has become very popular and in terms of running a large tournament is user friendly on our end. It also lends itself to be much more community based in terms of ease of communication.

I'll check it out ahha. Nah, the injury bug bit me bad. I'll be more focused in 2025!

My team has come to a screeching halt. I will not finish top 2, so I need 137.05 in week 14 to advance. Sadly, I will be without Jayden Daniels and Derrick Henry, and just lost Taysom Hill and JK Dobbins. I'm screwed!

Same except I need 148.35.

These week 14 byes are out of control. To my detriment, I avoided most BAL and WAS players because of week 14 byes.

This was my first experience with Sleeper, and I rather liked it. I liked the alerts when one of my players scored or had a big play. I don't think I would want to use it for my dynasty league but for this kind of redraft league, I enjoyed it.

Thanks @Skipdog77. Everyone has their favorites I'm sure but Sleeper is by far the fastest growing league platform. It's become very popular, primarily because the mobile app is so good in my opinion.

I switched to Sleeper a few years ago for our relatively straight forward Keep 13 dynasty league, and haven’t looked back. Every site has its quirks, pros and cons, so I don’t see sleeper as much better or worse than others. My key critieria were FREE and Simple To Setup/Use, and Sleeper fits that bill.

My only qualm with the site is that for some reason they don’t/can’t align features 100% between mobile and web versions (e.g. detailed league standings link only exists on mobile but not on desktop. Weird. And some setting too that I can’t recall right now that are only avaiable to view and change on one platform but not the other).

We should be good on all the player images being gone. :)
Fantastic! Loads so fast and allowed me to find my team in the overall standings…..

……

Waaaaay down in 1001st place (page freakin 11 out of 20. Oy)
:(
It was probably better for you when you couldn't find your team.... OHHHHHHHHH! ;)
Touché

Allow me to retort…

It’ll make my 2nd half comeback that much sweeter now that everyone knows that I’m amazingly average at this.
All the way up to 826th place!

The comeback begins…

6-5 and up to 657th place.
7-5 and up to 492nd place. And now up to SECOND place in division 0083! Thanks you for fueling this comeback, @Joey Wright !! :)

Also, while I have you @Joey Wright , I believe my team is at 492nd place judging by record and points scored, but my login name is totaly blank in the standings (though it has been in the standings for every week leading up to now). Can you see if that can be fixed, please? Thanks
The comeback continues!

I went from 7th place in my division and 1001st place in this contest back in week 8, to 1st place in my division, winning 5 in a row, and now sit at 391st place.

(And thanks, @Joey Wright and team for getting the blank team name issue sorted out in the standings. )
