Top 101 Movies of the 90s. We are done. If I knock out Amadeus/Brazil/Ran, We get to have an 80s countdown!! (1 Viewer)

Besides people's personal preference in those comedies and action movies listed, here are some movies that I thought would get the biggest "HTF did this not make the countdown?"s:

Reservoir Dogs, Tombstone, True Romance, Gump, Rounders, Jerry Magurie, Beautiful Girls

Listen, I’m glad the steaming pile of movie about a big boat that sinks is not here, mainly because I got friend-zoned so hard by my HS crush after taking her to theater to see it…

…but Forrest Gump too?!?  It’s not top 10 or anything, but damn Tom Hanks freaking owned the 90s even if they weren’t the best ever movies.  Also, this may be one of the few times where movie was beyond superior to book.

1994 had about as many potential top 100s as any single year:  Natural Born Killer, Jurassic Park, Pulp Fiction, Dumb and Dumber, Leon, Shawshank, Above the Rim, Usual Suspects, Stargate (shut up, it’s great!), others because I’m not going through the whole list

Yeah, those 2 should have been there!

Well, so much for doing a next 100.

Face off was a horrible movie
my buddy used to throw in a copy of face off in our white elephant Xmas gift.  We’d do a lot  of regifting and he must have gotten them back a few times because one year I got like 3 copies.  I think I gave my last one away this year and the others were properly disposed of.  Great bad movie though

our best rotating gift though was a vintage penthouse, I think it was from the 80s but possibly 70s.  Anyway one guy finally ended it by cutting out the best parts and decoupage them to a set of pint glasses

holy #### I almost forgot rounders..as a degenerate gambler this one would be highly rated

Ridiculous omissions:

Reservoir Dogs
True Romance
Clerks
Tombstone

Others that would have made my list off the top of my head:

Lost Highway
Wild at Heart
Sleepers
Primal Fear
Crash
Trees Lounge
Army of Darkness

If we would have allowed documentaries, those would have pushed a handful of movies off my list and would have changed the top 30 or so.

When We Were Kings, Hoop Dreams, Paradise Lost, Beyond the Mat, Hearts of Darkness, American Movie, Brother's Keeper, 4 Little Girls, Buena Vista Social Club, and the movie KP saw the most in the movie theater:  Madonna - Truth or Dare.     That's just what I wrote down off the top of my head when we first discussed this.

Biggest omissions IMO

12 Monkeys

American History X

Edward Scissorhands

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas what kind of a rat ******* leaves this off

Green Mile

Home Alone - this is one of the few “old” movies my kids like.

Leon The Professional

Office Space

The Lion King

True Romance

All of the bolded were right on the edge of my list.    I still haven't watched Wild at Heart or True Romance.

that’s the Cronenberg one where Spader and Holly Hunter get into car accidents and bang, right?  I’ve still never seen it, would like to some day

That was fun!  I might even try to watch some I haven't seen.....what was that three colors thing?  Taupe, tan, and red.....right?

Great list and fun as hell thread. Echo the True Romance/Tombstone fans. Both of those are great and can be re-watched innumerable times.

Gonna go back and watch a few on this list I haven't seen in a while.

Here’s a few underrated (I think) ones that would have made my list

Blood In Blood Out AKA Bound By Honor - I probably haven’t seen this in 25 years but if you’re a fan of the mob genre give the Chicano version a try

Boondock Saints - probably not underrated since I think this has a huge cult following.  It’s not the pinnacle of cinema by any means but it was damn entertaining and one I was always recommending at the video store

The main relationship is weird and Gary Oldman is absurd. Just like he was in True Romance and Bram Stoker's,). I just don't understand what he is doing in those movies.

EVVVVVVREEEYYYYYYYYYYYONNNNNNNNEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!11!!!1!1!!1!

FWIW im one that will overlook a lot as long as I get some epic action scenes

Two movies in my Top 20 that didn't make the Top 100:  Trainspotting and Carlitos Way (criminally underrated).

Continuing the underrated theme

Boxing Helena - this movie is pretty f’d up, but it watch peak Sherilyn Fenn do just about anything

Carlitos Way - it’s no Goodfellas and I watched this within the last year or so and it wasn’t quite as good as I remembered but a coked out Sean Penn and Viggo Mortensen have some good roles.  Also kind of a gut punch of an ending

Cube - if you’re a fan of the SciFi Horror genre and haven’t seen this one it’s definitely worth checking out

will probably do more underrated ones tomorrow

Not naming omissions without also naming who they would replace.

So in the recount, please add LEAVING LAS VEGAS, TRUE ROMANCE, GET SHORTY, ROUNDERS and AMERICAN ME

And have them replace THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, POINT BREAK, SWINGERS (sorry fanboys), BOOMERANG (which I like but is in over its head) and WHAT ABOUT BOB

Sincerely,

Good Taste

Ed Wood & Three Kings are mystifying omissions, but Gump is unforgiveable.

Being John Malkovich - Sorry Wikkid, but I hated this film. A clever starting idea with a weak ending. Keener plays one of the most obnoxious movie characters ever, but despite this we're stuck watching Cusack stay obsessed with her (?) right through the end. It sucked.
BJM is probably my favorite movie that i dont mind other people not liking, so no skin, GB

We're about to make film history, right here... on videotape.

#7:  BOOGIE NIGHTS
Easily the movie i've partially watched the most times.

    I was in HS when these came out, and had 0 reason or desire to see them.   Still have had 0 desire to see them.   I am guessing I've seen quite a bit of Home Alone, but never have sat down to watch it.

awesome as a part of a family Christmas movie watching set

I mean at least top 10 ...
