Tyreek Hill Detained On The Way To The Game (1 Viewer)

I very rarely watch the pre-game shows, but happened to put ESPN on this morning. I was happy to see Randy Moss being the adult in the room when Teddy Bruschi seemed to be questioning why the police interfered with any player rushing to the stadium to play a game. Randy rightly pointed out that we don't know if he had put anyone in danger.
Refreshing. Good on Moss.

Hell, if Rashee Rice can play with what he did, no problem for Hill.

"Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill was detained by police today entering the stadium for a driving violation, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus. But Rosenhaus said Hill will play today," Schefter wrote on his X account before quoting Rosenhaus as saying, "I just left Tyreek and he is getting ready to play today."

Weird. I’ve been pulled over plenty of times for driving violations. Can’t say I’ve ever ended up in handcuffs.
I understand, but a cop might get pissed if you say, "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?". Not saying he said this however.

Hard to jump to any conclusions without more information. This story could go from he had a knife on him or he simply said Jaguars suck. Who knows. At first glance, and as someone with decades of law enforcement, what caught my eye was the video of officers taking him to the ground with handciffs already on. When anyone is restrained like that, the fight should be over. Interesting how it wasn't. All my opinion of course and will change my opinion as facts come out.

You probably didn't start barking at cops
Is that what Tyreek did?
You usually don't get handcuffed if you are polite and acknowledge your mistake
So you don't actually know what happened?

Hill was cited for reckless driving and got into a verbal altercation with police before being placed in handcuffs. Per Darlington, “He was cited and released after the situation was de-escalated.” Hill and some teammates who witnessed the incident have all made it to the stadium and are available for Week 1.

“Verbal altercation”

What I saw was handcuffs going on after he was on the ground

Disturbing seeing this and I don't care if he barked at cops. They are public servants, not above the law, not above being yelled at. Unless they thought were in physical danger absolutely no need for that kind of crap.
The possibility of danger increases if the person they are dealing with doesn't obey their instructions
That's the job, if they can't handle a verbal altercation without putting a guy face down on the ground in cuffs they suck at their job. I don't want to discuss this with you any longer.

No one is above the law. My first reaction w/out having all of the evidence is police don't take you down like that unless you're being belligerent or threatening. I can certainly see Hill saying, "do you know who I am" and insisting it's okay for him to break the law because he's a superstar and has to get to his game, but I don't know. My first instinct is to side with the police because more often than not they're justified.

I don't think you understand how this works with police. If you're belligerent and/or threatening then down you go and rightly so. Not saying that did or did not happen but typically police don't take you down if you're cooperative.

It sounds more to me like you have Hill on your FF team.

See, my first instinct is to assume the multiple cops in the video handcuffing a guy who's already on the ground and not resisting after a traffic stop were probably going overboard. You're allowed to talk to the police (albeit probably inadvisable). It's not illegal to say "do you know who I am?"

scottie scheffler would disagree with that
Scottie got cuffed. He wasn't on the ground getting handcuffed, barking at police. That's a different context for me

No Mr. MAGA, that's not how it works and I've seen plenty of people over the years yell at cops and not get taken down. They are usuallly white.

Why handcuff someone, but not arrest?
Could be to protect Tyreek from himself before he did something even more stupid.

He has a volatile history.

I will wait for the facts to emerge.

Glad they diffused the situation.

He was not arrested and is playing. They probably did him a favor.

why do you think the police take you to the ground in the first place? To serve you lunch? He went to the ground BECAUSE they wanted to put cuffs on him for <reason unknown at this time>. My first instinct is that he was resisting, being belligerent and/or threatening, which is why you go to the ground in the first place.

This comment is when we should pivot back to football talk

It's about redzone time. Enjoy the games, everyone!

Politics? Really?

On the way to one of my weddings, I was late and stopped for speeding. I told the cop my predicament and he let me go.

Drew Rosenhaus is withholding judgment but he will look into it. He said Tyreek is safe, in a good place physically and mentally. Drew compared it to Schefler.

>>“How things escalated into the situation that he was in handcuffs and being held on the ground with police is mind-boggling to me. I’m deeply concerned by that, very troubled. We will be looking into it. We will be investigating this. We will look out for Tyree, but I’m not going to make any allegations at this time.

The most important thing is, Tyreek is OK. Physically, mentally. He was very distraught about what happened. Tyreek has told me over and over, he’s a big supporter of police. He was telling the police there, ‘I want to be a police officer in the future,’ but this is crazy. I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Rosenhaus was asked by Darlington: What happened?

“Well, it was all happening in real time,” Rosenhaus said. “[Tyreek] said he was driving into the stadium. The police stopped him, took him out of the car, basically, at that point, got rough with him, and from my estimation, it was completely unnecessary.

“And you mentioned the whole Scottie Scheffler thing that you saw, I have to assume this is a similar situation, but we’ll see how it plays out. I’m just thankful Tyreek is OK, and he was given a moving violation ticket, and he’s going to focus on the game, and then we’ll address this afterward. I just want to make sure how my client is treated.”<<

Dolphins spokesman saying the police went overboard in this.

Not sure what else they would say.
NEWS FLASH: Team with vested interest in millionaire superstar playing for them who brings in millions of dollars for the team sides with player!
wild to side with the police with the videos that are out on X. there is nothing to show that he was physically resisting

Out of all the police interactions in the US, how many of the regular and routine traffic stops do you think end up on X? Those videos you see are .0001% of traffic stops by police and you're extrapolating them out to be 100% of all traffic stops.
