“These actions by the Israeli side constitute a gross violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and the basic norms of international law,” the ministry said in a statement, adding “the lives of innocent people and the safety of international air traffic were exposed to a real threat.”
The statement said such actions could lead to “extremely dangerous consequences, since they can provoke an armed escalation throughout the region” and shouldn’t be allowed to take place.

One things is for sure. The big winner in all this is Russia.

Former Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal called for protests across the Muslim world on Friday in support of the Palestinians and for the peoples of neighbouring countries to join the fight against Israel.

There was a youtube video of his speech being shared on reddit yesterday but it was blocked before I could watch. I believe he was calling for Arabs in neighboring countries to "spill" their blood in Israel. I'm certain Israel is already on high alert regardless, and his speech could amount to nothing or maybe it will inspire some crazies in other countries like the U.S.

I weighed the pros and cons and just went with my gut. This might be the first or second time Ive ever kept her home for concern over an event like this. Normally I don't like to "let them win" but I kept my youngest (HS senior) home today. She only has classes until noon this year and its in a predominately Jewish school/area.

Its not so much that I worry something will occur, its just that shes been doing so well and I dont want her to feel the heightened security and all the chatter.

Russia thought when they invaded they would take over Kiav and Ukraine in a matter of days with little life lost. Going on 2 years with hundreds of thousands of casualties.

How hard is it to travel a few miles?

This isn't a relocation where you go talk to Sally in HR and movers come and pack your stuff up.

This is a get out of the area, now.

There is no HR because the vast majority of people don't work. They live on charity. Because their government puts all available money toward killing Israelis.

The people that do work or run businesses and used to pay 15-20% in taxes now have the privilege of paying 60-70% thanks to Hamas.

I think the primary employer is tunnel construction whereas prior to Hamas rule most areas were economically self sufficient micro economies.

Now after all of this...surely Palestinians would hate Hamas, right????

Nope. Because it turns out the government putting all their effort into killing Jews is actually more important to many of these people than their rapidly increasing child population having things like running water and food.

-Gaza City has a population somewhere in the 600-750k range and then as you move further South towards Egypt there are less and less densely populated areaa, but we're still talking about 250,000 people crammed into an area and they are expected to receive 3-4x that now. Israel wants all the civilians lining up on Egypt's Border basically until they can go in with the ground troops and it sure sounds like they are going door by door, building by building, whatever it takes., starting in Gaza City

But you should see Gaza on a map, sure looks like they should have some prime property areas along the coast of the Med Sea, hard to believe it looks like it does. I would think they could have a wonderful seaport along there and trade would be so easy with others and they don't seem the least bit interested.

Israel has planned and trained for this exact scenario for many years, I'd guarantee it.

They have lived under the threat of a major attack from Gaza for decades now. It is why so many people are critical of Netanyahu and the Israeli intelligence, because they should have seen this coming.

Their response is measured and has been already mapped out.

Not endorsing any of these ridiculous news networks but I admire Trey Yingst and his work on the ground, he's in GAZA and actually communicating with Hamas somehow, that seems incredibly dangerous to me, i would not want to be anywhere near the ME right now, you couldn't pay me enough money to do what he does.

Hamas won`t stay alone as they would be totally destroyed in days. Terrorists have to mingle with the rank and file population to survive.

Why has Iran in particular been resistant to moving forward with peaceful Israeli relations? Of all the Islamic countries, why are they the ones everyone points to as supporting Hamas?

I mentioned it upthread to someone else but the majority of the ME doesn't even recognize Israeli existence. It's tough to accomplish much of anything when the folks across the table look through you to someone they do acknowledge and talk to them instead of directly to you.

And to be clear, back in the early 2000's Israel promised to give most of the West Bank and all of Gaza to make a Palestinian State, if they would simply a. recognize the Jewish state and b. promise to live in peace alongside Israel. Palestinian authorities said no and then implemented suicide bombing s in Israel.

They should do it anyway, unilaterally, imo. They crush the PR war and the absolute worst that happens is nothing else changes vis a vis the way muslims view the Israelies, except they don't have to worry about policing those areas the same way they do today.

Not endorsing any of these ridiculous news networks but I admire Trey Yingst and his work on the ground, he's in GAZA and actually communicating with Hamas somehow, that seems incredibly dangerous to me, i would not want to be anywhere near the ME right now, you couldn't pay me enough money to do what he does.

And I'm sure there other even more Amazing journalists but this guy seems to go deep into the conflict, unfortunately you gotta tune into the network he reports for, that can be unsettling when he isn't center stage. I would try and maybe find his reports by other means thru social media, I think he's excellent.

I saw some of Trey's reporting on TikTok early on - totally agree. He's IN this mess. He's getting on-the-ground footage like nobody I've seen. With that said, I pray for the guy and his crew. These nations and terrorist groups have been coming after Israel since 1948 no matter what Israel does. They've learned the hard way that they have to monitor everyone, take a firm position and police those areas or Jews will die. That much has been proven over 75 years.

They aren't doing **** for "PR". They are doing all of this for survival.

PR is part of the survival strategy. If Israel became a straight up pariah in the international community, their chances for survival drop significantly. They have to be very careful in how they present themselves.
