wow- didn't know they had something new out.

thanks for nothing, stoopit spotify
yeah, i think i was a little confused about it honestly, cuz it was just that single this year.  a month or 2 ago, (or when it came out at the end of August) it must have popped up in something and then I was trying to figure out what I had heard from them that was so cool.  I think I kept missing it because it wasn't an album or something, but recently re-discovered it while reviewing stuff from the year

i guess they actually had another single, now that i look at it, though the one I picked is better.

not sure why spotify doesn't just do it all chronologically, instead of listing all the albums first, especially now that single releases are  becoming so much more common with the digital space taking hold.

I like this album, saw them live and liked that too. Can't go wrong with lots of houseplants on stage.
Don't really know much about the band (outside of "Sail").  Queued it up while doing some lawn chores this summer and this song jumped out at me.  I don't recall being particularly impressed with the album overall, but I listened to this song repeatedly about a dozen times that day (and many more times since).

"Kill Your Heroes"  is also outstanding IMO
Nobody cares but this guy's old band had a song I liked on like MVP Baseball 03 so he was kinda always kicking around on my radar

ETA - off by a year

A few makeup picks from me - yes, dipping back into some of the mid year albums with different tracks.

Round 6 - Amanda Shires - Break Out the Champagne

Welcome to the “crap” show indeed

Round 7 - Lucero - Cover Me (Live Version)

Missed their local show this year, but love this tune from the new album

Round 8 - Brian Fallon - If Your Prayers Don’t Get to Heaven

Seeing him Saturday for an acoustic show

Will make up the rest later or on the morning commute.

I hope no one is offended if I jump in on this.

Rd One - Royce da 5'9" - Caterpillar ft. Eminem, King Green

There are other songs released this year that I occasionally obsess over and play repeatedly, but I've been coming back to this one pretty consistently since I first heard it.

Rd 2 AM:

I've enjoyed this song this year, I think her full length record comes out next year:

Jade Bird - Lottery

I loved both of these. I pretty much dismissed that Caterpillar one based on the name of the artist alone.

And that Jade Bird song was just so sorts of great. Thanks for sharing.

P.S. @Long Ball Larry I was going to pick Nautical Death this morning because of the mood Caterpillar got me in.

I love this one from Jade Bird as well, trying to limit my picks to just one track from an artist , but ah let me throw this one in there as well

AM Pick

Jade Bird - Uh Huh

Can't have a 2018 list without a song from the one of the most popular movie soundtracks in years.  I thought the movie was a brilliant remake but what really knocked me over was the quality of musical performances by Bradley Cooper (Gaga was unsurprisingly stellar).  I enjoyed ALL of the songs he did for this film.  I'm partial to the ballad, "Maybe It's Time", but I'm posting this bluesy, southern rocker cause it's the song that opens the film, sets the tone for the rest of the movie and establishes Cooper as a believable rock star.

Rd Thirteen - Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born Soundtrack) - Black Eyes

oh... looks like I missed rd 12 too.

I'll go with some grrrl stuff with the next two.

first- everything she does I dig, even though it's not my wheelhouse genre. she gets good hooks and makes it funky/fun/head-bobbing... this one is pretty anthemic, imo.

12- boys- lizzo

Boys, boys, boys
Make a girl go crazy, ow

savages were one of my favorite bands over their two album career. been hoping theyd get back together during their "hiatus", but am happy to see their fantastic rhythm section start something up at least (bass player drove the band IMO). only one single so far- in a supergroup vein- with perfect poosy lead singer and yeah yeah yeah's guitarist for this track. album supposedly being released early 2019.

13- road trip- 180db

'Cause I'm an upstart!
And yes, I'm paranoid
Hard times
"Some #####"
You don't know what push back is
