What does everyone think about stacking in this contest? Obviously, if you stack the right players then it will work well but I am asking more in general. I don't recall seeing many or any comments about stacking players so I assume it is to be avoided for a best ball contest.

I think the main drawback of stacking is having your QB and WR with the same bye week. So my gut feeling is you'll probably some of that in this contest, but probably not a great deal with high-priced QBs and WRs (especially on rosters with 2 QBs rather than 3) because it puts too many potential fantasy points on the bench in the same week. For example, if you roster Josh Allen and Stephon Diggs, it becomes more risky to have any other players on your roster with the same by week, and that potentially takes a lot of other players out of consideration.

But evrything in this contest is a trade-off (or a crap-shoot) :ponder: ... so who knows??

Stacking is good. Last year I stacked each of my quarterbacks with at least 1 WR or TE, and I'm probably going to do that this year too.

Stacked QB-receiver duos have correlated production within a single game, which helps if you make the finals. You'll be trying to finish 1st out of 250ish, not middle of the pack, and correlated upside with your stacked players going off in the same game helps with that.

Stacked teammates also have correlated season-long production (if the offense is better than expected that's good for everyone on the team), which is helpful for making it to the finals. Less than 2% of teams make it the finals, so you're unlikely to make it if you just have a middle-of-the-pack or slightly above average squad - correlated upside gives you a better chance to have one of the better teams and therefore makes the finals. (Though you do want to be careful about investing too much in a single bye week.)

Trying to come up with more and more ideas this year. My team usually stinks, but I always feel like I have a decent team. This year, I cannot come close to what I feel like is a decent team. I am trying to have a team of studs as my flyers never seem to work out each year. Heck, maybe me hating my team is a good thing.

Thanks for the information

I like a lot of these players. However, one thing to consider is that 40% of the field is cut in weeks 13 and 14. So having your #1 QB, #2 WR, and two TEs on bye in week 13 could come back to bite you.

It's not bad. If you're going thin with 4 RB and WR each, I'd be nervous about Roschon and Elijah because they have high volatility. Picks like Gainwell or Elliott at RB and Thielen or Boyd at WR might not have the upside these guys have but MAY have safer floors. It's all a guessing game and this could be the winning lineup.

You must have missed it, but Mike Badgley was cut first by Washington, they by Tennessee, and finally signed to Detroit's practice squad. So he's not an active player. And if he becomes one, he would be very risky. You'll want to swap him out for a better choice. Riley Patterson is Detroit's kicker; not Mike Badgely, at least not yet.

I actually like the stack. It's a more aggressive approach, but just like in DFS, it gives you a higher potential 'ceiling' when the best-case scenarios happen. In this contest, you 'only' need to beat out 250 teams in the playoffs, but those are going to be 250 very stacked teams, so you are still gonna need monster scores to win. I went with the Hurts/Brown stack last year in the contest and it worked out pretty well. That was a perfect situation for the stack as I was confident Hurts was going to blow up big and just wanted to invest as much as possible in that. If you really like a specific passing offense for value, definitely consider stacking. Of course, the beauty of this game is that it's not just about the playoffs, you have to consistently score for 14 weeks to stay alive. The volatility of the stack will help you survive some weeks and be a negative on other weeks, but I think the large size of the rosters mitigates the downside well enough. They will be on bye one week, but that almost means every other week they're both in there! I made sure to have no other people on bye on my stack's bye week last year and sweated it out.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but QBs get 6 points per TD which makes running QBs not as great. I would combine Tannehill and Fields and get your favorite guy at the top.

Guys off acl injuries scare me, Peterson is the only guy off the top of my head really came back year 1 after the injury and looked like himself. Plus you have 3 extra dollars if you move off fields to upgrade from Javonte.

You need more receivers. I would come off Tyreek and try to turn him into 2 or 3 wrs.

Tight ends are fine.

I would go 3 defense and 2 kickers.

Good luck.

It's REALLY HARD to accommodate someone like Robinson. I can't encourage you to drop him because he MIGHT be the next Adrian Peterson. Depending on your level of Robinson fetish, you could also switch Mixon with the Chicago back or get more creative and choose only one of Johnson or LaPorta to upgrade WR. Or downgrade Cook or Goodwin to a $10 player. GL.

Edited to add: I don't think...if you are going to make a change its as simple as dropping Warren or Gainwell....that would leave you with only 4 RBs and I wouldn't recommend that based on my preferences anyway.

The good news is I have settled on 22 as the official sanctioned final roster size.

I was inspired by the battle against the Rabbit of Caerbannog.

From
the Book of Armaments:

"And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large chulapas...

(At this point, Brother Maynard's Brother is interrupted by Maynard himself, who tells him "Skip a bit, Brother." Maynard's Brother continues.)

And the Lord spake, saying, ''First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to twenty two, no more, no less. Twenty two shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be twenty two. Twenty three shalt thou not count, neither count thou twenty one, excepting that thou then proceed to twenty two. Twenty Five is right out. Once the number twenty two, being the twenty second number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'

As much as I liked the 18 player rosters I've done lately, I feel better about 3 mid-range QBs (2 have ability to crack top 12) vs 1 $20 range and 1 $10-14 range. This one hits 22.

The good news is that I have the lineup I want. The bad news is that I am $3 over budget.
I saved a few bucks by
- moving from three $3 Ks to two $4 Ks ($1 savings)
- then I just committed to two $3 Ds and not rostering a 3rd ($3 savings for those going with 3 x $3)

Then again, I don’t know if I’ve even made it past week 7 in this contest. 🤣

2 kickers is pretty risky. I've had lots of weeks where that 3rd K saved my skin. I agree you need to take some risks to win, but is $1 worth it here?

❓How many weeks did all of you guys survive in this contest last year ❓

I know a couple of you made the finals, and I'm trying to remember who.

I got bounced in week 11 last year, with 2 key players out with injuries and 3 players on BYE that week, coupled with the Roberto Blankenship fiasco.

Looking back.... had I not been eliminated in week 11, I would have made it to the finals, making the cut by 21, 31, and 42 points in weeks 12, 13, and 14. I hope I can somehow do better this year, but I'm not too optimistic at this point. I haven't been able to roser a lineup I'm really happy with. It seems like it's been harder this year (for me anyway) to identify value players.

You can check with the forum 'historian' @TheWinz to verify this, but I believe statistically you are better off with 3 PK and 2 DEF, rather than 2PK and 3 DEF. Kickers statistically outscore defenses on average by close to 3 points per week in this scoring system.

I guess I was just remembering being burned by the $3 kickers last year (Blankenship, forget who else) and looking at this year’s $3 kickers…no thanks. You can say you‘re “safer” in this contest with 3 kickers, but it quickly became only TWO when one was cut. So I went with two $4 kickers who’s jobs are much more secure. Sure, if injuries hit…that’s true of this whole contest. I’m going with Stud QB and 1 backup QB. If my stud QB gets hurt, game over. All about risk/reward in this amazing/annoying/addictive/frustrating contest! :)

I find it best to just roster all the $3 and $4 kickers. That way if one gets cut you still are covered. And in best ball you are almost guaranteed 15+ points any given week from your kicker.

Agreed. Entire defenses can't get cut or injured, but kickers can. If I rostered 2 of each and had $3 extra to spend, I would always opt for a 3rd kicker, unless there were only 2 kickers I felt were safe from cuts.

It cuts both ways. The advantage of a third kicker over a third defense is that one of your first 2 kickers might miss time, and your first 2 defenses won't. The advantage of a third defense over a third kicker is that your third defense won't miss time, and your third kicker might.

I always go with at least 3 of each, because they're cheap.

D's and K's are priced equal, but they don't score equal. On average, K's score about 25% more, and that number is even higher if you can avoid the scrub kickers who get cut. When I get home from work, I will post some stats from my spreadsheet.
