2024 Summer of Soccer - Euro's, Copa America, Olympics, WCQing (5 Viewers)

The fact that CRo outscored him during this period is a HUGE testament to the quality Ronaldo held through out his 30's.

The other unknown factor - quality of opponent.

Most of the top European sides feast on minnows, even through group stages of major tournaments, but certainly through qualifying. And the WC itself has more games against lower level competition than when Pele was playing.

I don't know the relative competition level Pele would have faced - but given that CONMEBOL is generally a tougher federation due to the limited number of teams, I would guess Brazil were playing tougher competition overall.

One metric - Ronaldo 8 goals in 22 WC appearances.

Pele - 12 goals in 14 WC appearances

FYI as the Olympics are getting closer - Peacock has a deal right now for $19.99 for a year. It’s their non-premium version with some adds, but should be good for some additional game coverage that doesn’t make it on the main broadcast channels.

Its worth it for any fans of the EPL too.

I took a look a couple days ago and it seems none of the Peacock deals are available to existing subscribers - correct? I think rates for existing subscribers are actually going up soon.

Was thinking about this rule last night when the yellow shirts were bracketing the ref following the VAR reversal:

UEFA are introducing a new sanctioning rule that will see players, who are not captain, get yellow carded for any form of protest! Only the captains, or a designated player if the captain is a goalkeeper, can address the referee.

It might be.

My subscription from last year's year long deal ended on the 11th. I cancelled (well, turned off the auto renew) and got the email yesterday saying "You are welcome back anytime" with the offer for the $19.99 renewal. Since I was going to renew in August for the EPL season anyway, I resubscribed.

I just cancelled - it would not allow me to immediately sign up for the 19.99 special - but my plan runs to July, so we will see after that.

I also had the premium plus - no Ads for an additional $6/month - and I don't think that has a special deal.

If I heard things correctly, Scotland has never advanced past the group stage of any international tournament.

A draw today against the Hosts would be huge.

I'm not sure we need a whole guide, but there might be a few themed cocktails consumed this summer ...

My aopolgies to the 5-10 of you who would have liked a new version but I just couldn’t find the time to do it. And I’m trying to cut down on my drinking. But I’m somewhat invested - here’s last tournaments guide

Most of the countries will overlap so should be enough for folks who want to try out some new cocktails

@OptaJoe

71% - Coming into EURO 2024, Scotland have won 15 of their last 21 competitive internationals (71%), the second-best such win ratio of any European nation in this time (Sept 4th, 2021 onwards), behind only Portugal (74%). Form.

Well that didn't take long... Are we talking in game here or in the game day thread?
here.

I understand Scotland having to form a low block but why in gods name is the striker not living inside of Kroos's shorts? Leaving him to have 3 seconds to make a decision on where to slice open Scotland seems nuts to me.

Speaking of Donovan, Bruce Arena crushing him on the CBS show was fantastic.

"You couldn't keep Beckham and Keane off the pitch. You couldn't get Landon on it"
